Flux linkage of phase windings is a key parameter in determining the behavior of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) [1-8]. Therefore, the accurate prediction of flux linkage at aligned and unaligned rotor positions makes a significant contribution to the design of an SRM and its analytical approach is not straightforward due to nonlinear saturation in flux. Although several different approaches using a finite element analysis (FEA) or a curve-fitting tool have been employed to compute phase flux linkage [2-5], they are not suitable for a simple design procedure because the FEA necessitates a large amount of time in both modeling and solving with complexity for every motor design, and the curve-fitting requires the data of flux linkage from either an experimental test or an FEA simulation. In this paper, phase flux linkage at aligned and unaligned rotor positions is estimated by means of a reluctance network, and the proposed approach is analytically verified in terms of accuracy compared to FEA.

A novel kind of switched reluctance motor (SRM) with short flux path is proposed in this paper. Phase excitation in the SRM gives short flux paths, hence reducing the magnetomotive force required to drive the machine, resulting in significant reduction of copper wire and core losses compared to the typical SRM with diametric circulation of magnetic flux. To verify the performance, the characteristics analysis of a double-stator SRM, a 6/5 SRM with C-core structure, and a 4/5 two-phase SRM, which all have short flux paths, and a comparison with conventional SR motors are executed. The comparison demonstrates that the proposed motor offers some advantages in terms of torque and efficiency.
Currently, an interest in electric vehicles (EVs) exhibited by automakers, government agencies and customers make it as more attractive research. This is due to carbon dioxide emitted by conventional combustion engine that worsens the greenhouse effect nowadays. Since electric motors are the core of EVs, it is a pressing need for researchers to develop advanced electric motors. As one of the candidates, switched flux machine (SFM) is initiated in order to cope with the requirement. This paper proposes a new alternate circumferential and radial flux (AlCiRaF) of permanent magnet switched flux machines (PMSFM) for light weight electric vehicles. Firstly, AlCiRaF PMSFM is compared with the conventional PMSFM based on some design restrictions and specifications. Then the design refinements techniques are conducted by using deterministic optimization method in order to improve preliminary performance of machine. Finally the optimized machine design has achieved maximum torque and power of 47.43 Nm and 12.85 kW, respectively, slightly better than that of conventional PMSFM.
Recently, applications of the reluctance torque motor have been quite limited due to their inherent limitation of noise and vibration and thus, researches on the reluctance motor have been limited as well. However, with the tremendous increase in the cost of rare earth material magnets, studies of the reluctance torque motor are being conducted more and more. In principle, reluctance torque is generated when the inductance is changed. Therefore, in order to generate continuous torque in the switched reluctance motor, it is necessary to figure out the exact inductance level corresponding to the rotor position and the current level to be applied in that rotor position, respectively. If the current level or the rotor position is not accurately determined, then the generated reluctance torque becomes unstable and undesirable torque ripples prevail to eventually cause noise and vibrations. In this research, a flux switched reluctance motor (FSRM), which is classified into the switched reluctance motor (SRM), was studied. A methodology using the current shaping control according to the rotor position was proposed. Based on the proposed methodology, the optimal current waveform and the torque distribution function for the FSRM to minimize torque ripple was established and demonstrated in this paper.
This paper deals with force characteristic analysis of linear switched reluctance motor using dynamic simulation. First, we calculated flux density of linear switched reluctance motor according to position. Second, analyzed normal force from flux density of linear switched reluctance motor according to position. Also, analysis result compares with data that is derived through a finite element analysis, and proved validity. However, linear switched reluctance motor has non linear characteristic, hence, analysis of propulsion force do not easy using analytical method. Therefore, we presented dynamic characteristic analysis model which is consisted at motor and sensor signal part, etc., and substitute circuit constant that get using magnetic equivalent circuit method, we confirmed propulsion force.

The paper proposes the characteristics analysis for a Transverse flux type Switched Reluctance Motor(TSRM) considering the nonlinear magnetic phenomena. To investigate the nonlinear parameters of magnetic equivalent circuit, the designed TSRM is analyzed by the 2D and 3D finite element method as functions of input current and angular displacement. On the base of FEM analysis results, the current, torque, back EMF and output power wave of TSRM are simulated from the motion equation by MATLAB/Simulink. The simulated performance characteristics for a 4-phase, 24-pole TSRM are verified by experimental results of a prototype TSRM.

SRM is designed to meet operating standards such as low cost, simple magnetic structure, a desired operating speed range, high efficiency, high performance, and good matching for DC power. The magnetic flux of SRM is independent of its direction to develop a torque and it allows the flexible characteristics of the magnetic structure for SRM. In this paper, SRM can widely classify two types, Radial-Flux SRM and Axial-Flux SRM, according to the flux direction. Radial-Flux SRM includes Conventional, Segmented stator and rotor, and Double stator SRM, etc. and Axial-Flux SRM includes C-core stator and the Axial-airgap SRM. This paper is subjected the basic characteristics to select the best of the magnetic structure of SRM in the appropriate application by the classification of SRM.
This paper presents a new sensorless control method for single-phase switched reluctance motors using induced electromotive force (EMF) due to the residual flux both on the stator and the rotor during phase commutation. The induced EMF falls to zero when the rotor pole moves away from the overlap with the stator pole. By detecting this instant, the speed and position of the rotor can be simply estimated. This method is very simple to implement and it is insensitive to variations in the system parameters as it does not require any stored magnetic data or offline inductance measurements but requires only measurements of the terminal voltage and a simple analog circuit. The proposed method is implemented on a 6/6 single-phase switched reluctance motor. However, it can also be implemented on a multiphase SRM regardless of the size, operation speed and switching mode of the motor hence making the proposed method viable to many applications. Simulation and experimental verification is provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

In this paper, a novel Bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor(BLSRM) with the shoe rotor pole in order to minimize the torque ripple and the suspension force ripple at an overlap position is proposed. For reduction the torque ripple and the suspension force ripple at an overlap position, the fringing flux is used for the main flux. This configuration of the rotor pole results in more average torque with high suspension force. In addition, this paper is compared the transient characteristics using the inductance look-up table. The torque, radial force and flux density are analyzed by finite element method.
In this paper, a flux linkage model based on four magnetization curves fitting is proposed for three-phase 12/8 switched reluctance motor (SRM), with the analysis of the basic principle of flux detection method and function analysis method. In the model, the single value function mapping relationship between position angle and flux is established, which can achieve a direct estimation of rotor position. The realization scheme of SRM indirect position detection system is presented. It is proved by simulation and experiment that the proposed scheme is suitable for rotor position detection of SRM, and has high accuracy of position estimation.
