  • Background : It is increasing the concern for patient satisfaction as a customer information. This study was planned to investigate the activities related to patient satisfaction survey at the Korean hospitals. Methods : We performed the nationwide survey on 235 general hospitals by using the self-administrated checklist from Sep. 9 to Oct. 9, 1996. The response rate were 50.2%. We analyzed the descriptive statistics and chi-square test by SAS software on 118 hospitals. Results : First of all, 62.7% of study hospitals showed to conduct the patient satisfaction survey, and most of hospitals which did not conduct it had a plan to do it within 5 years. The reason that hospitals did not conduct satisfaction survey was due to a lack of administrator's interest or adequate questionnaire form. Second, the bigger, public and being more located in the big city or opened more than 10 years, the more hospitals conducted the patient satisfaction survey. Also, patient satisfaction survey was mainly handled by planning dept. or administrative team. Third, most hospitals had their own way of making questionnaires without proving reliability and validity. The results of the survey were applied to hospital management timely, and were mostly reported to top manager level. Most CEO concerned about the results of satisfaction survey. Fourth, the staffs in charge of survey had problems such as skill related to data analysis and development of questionnaire and they suggested that this problems could be solved through inducing the implementation of the survey results on hospital management, support for the development of standardized questionnaires and increasing the top manager's interests. Fifth, most questionnaires composed of lots of questioning items on hospital equipments and environment, and kindness of hospital employee to patients. Conclusions : Although this study had some limitations in generalization due to low response rate in big hospitals, it is meaningful to find the present state and the problems related to patient satisfaction survey of the general hospitals. We can conclude that there are increasing the concern for patient satisfaction survey among the hospitals nationwide, and it can be needed for technical support related to development of survey tool or method.

We divided surveyors into those who participated in the survey more than 3 times and less than 3 times in order to judge the professionalism of surveyors according to the number of survey participation. Those factors that have an influence on the satisfaction as surveyors include: activity period as surveyor, role in the survey team, experience of survey in other fields, experience as consultant and the useful education and proper composition of survey team (p<0.05). Those factors that have an influence on the reliability for fellow surveyors include: number of beds of hospitals they belong, experience of survey in other fields, useful education, proper composition of survey team and difficulty in leadership interview (p<0.05). Conclusion: It is important to provide useful education and proper composition of survey team to increase the satisfaction as surveyors and the reliability for fellow surveyors.

After setting the analysis items based on previous studies and case study, a satisfaction survey is conducted on patients and statistical analysis is performed. Results: As a result of factor analysis, factors were classified into four categories: legibility, visibility, effectiveness, and frequency. As a result of the importance analysis through multiple regression analysis of four factors affecting hospital satisfaction, the importance of the "legibility" factor was the highest, followed by the "frequency", "effectiveness", and "visibility". As a result of the satisfaction analysis of the bulletins in the study site, the "visibility" factor was the highest, followed by "legibility", "effectiveness", and "frequency". Implications: In order to improve hospital satisfaction, the improvement of factors of high importance should be considered first. In other words, in hospital bulletins, legibility and frequency should be considered first. In addition, hospital satisfaction can be maximized by improving the level of factors and variables that are low in the satisfaction survey by factor.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze differences in the perception of Gangwon-do residents using a satisfaction survey. The residents were found to be most satisfied with sectors such as parks/green spaces, landscape, and public order; however, they were least satisfied with transportation, culture, sports, medical services, and welfare facilities. Additionally, among all the items in the satisfaction survey, job satisfaction was the lowest. When comparing satisfaction trends observed in the city to those of the county, the overall satisfaction of the county was found to be slightly higher. This result could be attributed to young people being underrepresented in this survey in conjunction with the greater policy-level support for middle-aged people by from the government and Gangwon-do. Therefore, it would be worthwhile to create policies that primarily support young people and to also to create high-quality jobs with stable pay and employment prospects. This could minimize the outflow of youth and even encourage their inflow to similar small provincial cities. In Southern region and Seorak region of Gangwon-do, the satisfaction with gap between house price and region was low, which might be related to the increased demand for real estate throughout this area.

  • Objective: This study is about the physical therapy facilities and environmental and service satisfaction of patients visiting in the front military hospitals and divisions. Design: Survey study Methods: Prior to this survey, 28 users of the front division and military hospital were surveyed in advance to verify the survey through reliability analysis. For this survey, 1,300 questionnaires were distributed to seven frontline divisions and three military hospitals, of which 578 military hospitals and 479 divisions were collected. Among them, 1,042 pieces of data were used for the analysis, excluding 15 questionnaires that exceeded the research period of the division. Analysis methods used Cronbach-α and multiple regression for mean comparison analysis, factor analysis for validation, and reliability verification to verify differences between groups. Results: As a result of the satisfaction analysis, the division's stage satisfaction was higher than that of military hospitals, and as a result of analyzing the satisfaction items by sector, accessibility, re-visit doctors, and professionalism accounted for a large portion in the field of physical therapy services. As a result of a regression analysis, the factors that affect the satisfaction of physical therapy had the greatest impact on facility and environmental satisfaction, and expertise in physical therapy services. Conclusions: In the future, it will be necessary to improve the comfort of the physical therapy room and the expertise of physical therapy in order to improve the satisfaction level of physical therapy at military medical facilities.
