The purpose of this study is to investigate diurnal variations of snowstorm occurred along the East Coast of the Korean Peninsula. The snowstorm which occurred on 5${\sim}$7 January 1997 have been analyzed. The pressure patterns were analyzed through surface and upper-air chart(850hPa). Diurnal variations of four areas, i. e. Youngdong, Mt. Taebaek, Youngseo and Kyungbuk regions were analyzed through wind direction and speed, cloud amounts, surface temperature, dewpoint temperature, relative humidity and sea level pressure. And snowfall amounts over four areas were analyzed through regional distribution, daily and temporal variations. The snowfall which occurred on January 5 was caused by the weak low pressure which is located in Kyusu region of Japan. The snowfall of January 6 occurred due to the Siberian high's expansion and instability. And northeasterly wind is one factor of the snowstorm which occurred in Mt. Taebaek region on 7 January. Heavy snowfall was caused by westerly wind but easterly wind occurred weak snowfall in Youngdong area. The precipitation of Kyungbuk region(eapecially, Pohang) was less than that of Youngdong region because the air mass which was not modified had influence on Kyungbuk region on 6${\sim}$7 January, 1997.
An in-situ, real-time monitoring of GaN epilayers grown by low pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition system modified for spectral reflectance was performed. Reflectance spectrums from 190~861 nm were observed using p-polarized light with incident angle of $75^{\circ}$. All reflectance spectrums showed interference oscillation caused by multiple reflection within GaN epilayers, and the spectrum from GaN with low crystalline quality showed weak reflectance intensity and much low amplitude of the oscillation because many defects in GaN resulted in light scattering and absorption. Signal variation of reflected light which was selected around strong constructive wavelength range was also observed during $NH_3$ supplying and $NH_3$ cut-off. There was no significant change in signal intensity when $NH_3$ cut-off for 10 sec, but it showed higher intensity when $NH_3$ was cut off for over 30 sec and its intensity kept unchanged. This result indicates that GaN surface was N-terminated during $NH_3$ supplying but Ga-terminated during $NH_3$ cut-off because of high nitrogen equilibrium vapor pressure of GaN, and metallic Ga-terminated surface caused slightly higher reflectance intensity.
This study investigated the effect of different $O_2$ transmission rate (OTR) of films on surface temperature, weight loss, pH, $O_2$, $CO_2$ and sensory characteristics, microbial quality, total phenolic contents and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl radical scavenging activity of fresh-cut lettuce during storage at $10^{\circ}C$ for 7 days. $80{\pm}5g$ of fresh-cut lettuce were packaged with oriented polypropylene films respectively. The OTR of packaging materials was 5,000, 8,000 and $10,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$. Quality characteristics showed significant differences during storage. The surface temperature was averaged 13 and lower in higher OTR of films. The weight loss of lettuce ranged from 2.8 to 5.4% and the highest loss showed in $5,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$ of film. pH was increased during storage and the highest pH was found in $5,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$. The $O_2$ content in the packaging was decreased with increasing $CO_2$ content during storage. The lowest $CO_2$ was found in $10,000cc/m^2{\cdot}day{\cdot}atm$. As OTR was decreased, antioxidant profile of lettuce was decreased. Total aerobic bacteria showed from 5.48 to 6.59 log CFU/g. From the result of the overall sensory test, the marketability of fresh-cut lettuce stored at $10^{\circ}C$ seemed to be maintained effectively over 5 days.
In this study, nano sized colloidal Ag was made by using a seed sol method. Colloidal Ag solution was spouted on the surface of the inorganic pigment using the hybridizer system and spray nozzle. Then, the surface of the inorganic pigment was modified by $TiO_2$ to obtain the antibacterial ability. In the manufacturing process of nano sized colloidal Ag, it was confirmed that the size of particles increased by addition of $AgNO_3$ and increased the reaction time. The antibacterial measurement of the inorganic pigment showed that the growth of fungus decreased as the reaction time was increased. After the antibacterial ability appeared, in 5~7 h of the antibacterial inoculation experiment, it was measured that the antibacterial activity was excellent at a fixed time frame. The photodecomposition of benzene using $TiO_2$ as the photocatalyst showed 60~70% efficiency in about 80 min. reaction time. It was shown that more than 90% of this efficiency was achieved in the reaction time of about 30 min.

This study is aimed to develop the adsorbent which can effectively remove toxic hydrophobic organic compounds from the aqueous phase. The emphasis was made to elucidate the adsolubilization behavior of sparingly soluble organic compounds (SSOCs) into the cetyltrimetylammonium bromide(CTAB) layer formed on anthracite by the partition coefficient. The amount of SSOCs removed from aqueous solution was increased with increase of the amount of CTAB coated on the surface and wich increase of SSOCs's hydrophobicity. With the surface-modified solid shown in above. chloroform and benzene at the initial concentration of $6{\times}10^{-4}M$ were removed over 95%. Experimentally determined partition coefficient($K_d$) values between organo-anthracite and organics were 4~25 times higher than theoretical $K_d$ values of same organics Organo-anthracite formed by the addition of the CTAB can effectively immobilize organic contaminants dissolved in landfill leachate and can also be applicable to wastewater treatment containing toxic hydrophobic organic compounds such as chloroform and benzene.
Graphene has a wide spectrum on its application field due to various and excellent physical properties. However, it is very difficult to apply that graphene exists as lump or fold condition in general organic solvents. Besides, graphene was difficult to maintain as uniform condition due to chemical inert and distributions with various size and shapes. Therefore, this study was focused to study dispersion and modifying methods of aggregated graphene. The dispersion methods contain as follow: i) physical milling using glass bead, ii) co-treatment of glass bead and ultrasonic waves, iii) dispersion in organic solvents, iv) modifying with dry-ice. Milling using glass bead with size 2.5 mm was effective to be size decrease of 36.4% in comparison with control group. Mixed treatment of glass bead (size 2.5 mm) and ultrasonic waves (225W, 10 min) showed relative size decrease of 76%, suggesting that the size decrease depends on the size of glass bead, intensity of ultrasonic waves and treatment time. Solvents of Ethyl acetate (EA) and Isoprophyl alcohol (IPA) were used in order to improve dispersion by modifying surface of graphene. IPA of them showed a favorable dispersion with more -CO functional groups in the FT-IR analysis. On the other hand, the oxygen content of graphene surface modified by dry-ice was highly increased from 0.8 to 4.9%. From the results, it was decided that the favorable dispersion state for a long time was obtained under the condition of -CO functional group increase in IPA solvent.
Rotary disc ultrafiltration module(RDM) was developed for the separation of oil e$$\mu$sions. This module was devised to reduce the gel polarization phenomenon by decoupling the operation pressure and the surface velocity of solution in ultrafiltration(UF) processes. The rotary disc membrane consists of 3mm-thick ABS plate covered with UF membrane (UOP, U.S.A.). When the angular velocity($\omega$) was increased, the pure water flux was slightly decreased due to pressure drop caused by centrifugal force and slip flow at the surface of membrane. The pressure drop was proportional to the square of linear velocity(${\omega}r$). When the angular velocity was changed from 52.36rad/s to 2.62rad/s, the flux decline for 5% cutting oil in one-shaft RDM at $25^{\circ}C$ and 0.1MPa was 30.16%. In the lower concentrations, angular velocity tends to give less effect on the flux. Flux(J; $kg/m^{2} \cdot s$) in a rotating disc module is mainly a function of the bulk concentration($C_{B}$; %), the linear velocity(${\omega}r$; m/s) and the effective transmembrane pressure($\Delta P_{T}$ ; Pa). Using a modified resistance-in-series model, the flux data of cutting oil experiments were fitted to give the following equation.
Electrochromic (EC) devices are capable of reversibly changing their optical properties upon charge injection and extraction induced by the external voltage. The characteristics of the EC device, such as low power consumption, high coloration efficiency, and memory effects under open circuit status, make them suitable for use in a variety of applications including smart windows and electronic papers. Coloration due to reduction or oxidation of redox chromophores can be used for EC devices (e-paper), but the switching time is slow (second level). Recently, with increasing demand for the low cost, lightweight flat panel display with paper-like readability (electronic paper), an EC display technology based on dye-modified $TiO_2$ nanoparticle electrode was developed. A well known organic dye molecule, viologen, was adsorbed on the surface of a mesoporous $TiO_2$ nanoparticle film to form the EC electrode. On the other hand, ZnO is a wide bandgap II-VI semiconductor which has been applied in many fields such as UV lasers, field effect transistors and transparent conductors. The bandgap of the bulk ZnO is about 3.37 eV, which is close to that of the $TiO_2$ (3.4 eV). As a traditional transparent conductor, ZnO has excellent electron transport properties, even in ZnO nanoparticle films. In the past few years, one-dimension (1D) nanostructures of ZnO have attracted extensive research interest. In particular, 1D ZnO nanowires renders much better electron transportation capability by providing a direct conduction path for electron transport and greatly reducing the number of grain boundaries. These unique advantages make ZnO nanowires a promising matrix electrode for EC dye molecule loading. ZnO nanowires grow vertically from the substrate and form a dense array (Fig. 1). The ZnO nanowires show regular hexagonal cross section and the average diameter of the ZnO nanowires is about 100 nm. The cross-section image of the ZnO nanowires array (Fig. 1) indicates that the length of the ZnO nanowires is about $6\;{\mu}m$. From one on/off cycle of the ZnO EC cell (Fig. 2). We can see that, the switching time of a ZnO nanowire electrode EC cell with an active area of $1\;{\times}\;1\;cm^2$ is 170 ms and 142 ms for coloration and bleaching, respectively. The coloration and bleaching time is faster compared to the $TiO_2$ mesoporous EC devices with both coloration and bleaching time of about 250 ms for a device with an active area of $2.5\;cm^2$. With further optimization, it is possible that the response time can reach ten(s) of millisecond, i.e. capable of displaying video. Fig. 3 shows a prototype with two different transmittance states. It can be seen that good contrast was obtained. The retention was at least a few hours for these prototypes. Being an oxide, ZnO is oxidation resistant, i.e. it is more durable for field emission cathode. ZnO nanotetropods were also applied to realize the first prototype triode field emission device, making use of scattered surface-conduction electrons for field emission (Fig. 4). The device has a high efficiency (field emitted electron to total electron ratio) of about 60%. With this high efficiency, we were able to fabricate some prototype displays (Fig. 5 showing some alphanumerical symbols). ZnO tetrapods have four legs, which guarantees that there is one leg always pointing upward, even using screen printing method to fabricate the cathode.
In this study, the magnitude and phase variation of dynamic earth pressure acting on a pile in liquefiable soils were analyzed using a series of 1g shaking table tests. In the case of a pile in dry sand, the value of the dynamic earth pressure was the highest near the surface due to the inertia force of the upper load on the pile and it decreased as the depth of the pile got lower. On the other hand, for a pile in liquefiable sand, the magnitude and shape of the dynamic earth pressure were similar to those of the excess pore pressure and was largely affected by the deformation of soils. Furthermore, the inertia force of the upper load and the dynamic earth pressure acted in opposite directions in cases of dry sand and saturated sand where low excess pore pressure had developed. However, after liquefaction, those force components near surface acted unfavorably in the same direction. Finally, the Westergaard’s solution was modified and proposed as a method to evaluate the magnitude of dynamic earth pressure acting on a pile during liquefaction.

For the purpose of establishment of Reference Korean and estimation of internal and external exposure doses in the Reference Korean, we have surveyed reference values for Koreans, such as physical standards including height, weight and body surface area, food consumption rate of daily intake of radioactive substances and exposure dose from natural radiation. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The age group of the Reference Korean ranged from 20 to 30 years old in both sexes. The height, weight and surface area of the body of the Reference Korean are 167cm, 61kg and $1.67m^2$ in male and 155cm, 51kg and $1.51m^2$, respectively in female. 2) The food consumption of the Korean is 812.8g (669.6g of vegetable food and 143.2g of animal food) per capita per day. 3) Koreans are taken about 1,200 pCi of radioactive substances(${\beta}$-ray) per capita per day. 4) The external and internal radiation exposure doses of the Korean are estimated to be 127 mrem and 8 mrem per year, respectively. However, it is believed that these values will be modified upon the addition of data collection.
