Non-contact type mechanical face seals installed in mechanical systems prevent leakage of working fluid using thin working fluid film between stator and rotor. For that purpose, various kinds of surface profiles, grooves and conings have been applied on seal surfaces of stator and rotor to generate hydrodynamic and hydrostatic pressure. The thickness distribution of working fluid film is one of important factors which affect the working performances of mechanical face seal, and it is strongly affected by the surface height profiles of stator and rotor. Therefore, appropriate design of surface height profiles of stator and rotor is necessary to optimize the working performances and life of mechanical face seal. In this study, numerical analysis using finite volume method was conducted to estimate the working performances of wavy mechanical face seals which have 36 coning combinations. As results, minimum thickness of working fluid film, leakage volume of working fluid and friction torque in static equilibrium condition of mechanical face seal, and stiffness of working fluid film were obtained. The results show that the working performances of mechanical face seal were affected by the coning combinations which can change the thickness distribution of working fluid film and pressure distribution in sealing region of mechanical face seal.
The present study investigated the effect of relative position of the blade on blade surface heat transfer. The experiments were conducted in a low speed wind tunnel with a stationary annular turbine cascade. The test section has a single turbine stage composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length of the blade is 150 mm and the mean tip clearance of the blade is $2.5\%$ of the blade chord. The Reynolds number based on blade inlet velocity and chord length is $1.5{\times}105$ and mean turbulence intensity is about $3\%$. To investigate the effect of relative position of blade, the blade at six different positions in a pitch was examined. For the detailed mass transfer measurements, a naphthalene sublimation technique was used. In general, complex heat transfer characteristics are observed on the blade surface due to various flow characteristics, such as a laminar flow separation, relaminarization, flow acceleration, transition to turbulence and tip leakage vortices. The results show that the blade relative position affects those heat transfer characteristics because the distributions of incoming flow velocity and turbulence intensity are changed. Especially, the heat transfer pattern on the near-tip region is significantly affected by the relative position of the blade because the effect of tip leakage vortex is strongly dependent on the blade position. On the pressure side, the effect of blade position is not so significant as on the suction side surface although the position and the size of the separation bubble are changed.
The marginal integrity of the crown can be broken during endodontic access cavity preparation due to the vibration of burs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of endodontic access cavity preparation on the marginal leakage of full veneer gold crowns. 24 intact molars were mounted in acrylic resin blocks and prepared for crowns by a restorative dentist and crowns were cast with gold alloy. 20 Crowns were cemented with glass ionomer cement and 2 crowns were not cemented for positive control. 200 thermo-cycles from 5$^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$ with a travel time of 20s were completed. Then samples were randomly divided into 2 experimental groups of 9 each. Endodontic access preparation and zinc-oxide eugenol temporary fillings were done in Group 1. Teeth in Group 2 were not treated. Samples were coated with 2 layers of nail varnish and were immersed in 1% methylene blue dye for 20 hrs. Endodontic access was prepared in 2 samples, which were coated with nail varnish on all surfaces for negative control. After washing in running water gold crowns were cut with a #330 bur. Four buccolingual sections, 2 mm apart, were cut from the central section of each tooth and were examined and scored under the microscope for dye leakage. Score 1: leakage to the cervical 1/3 of the axial wall, Score 2: leakage to the middle 1/3 of the axial wall, Score 3: leakage to the coronal 1/3 of the axial wall, Score 4: leakage to the occlusal surface. The median value for Group 1 is 4 and for Group 2 is 2. The result of this study showed that samples in Group 1 leaked more than those in Group 2. This finding was significant(P<0.001).

Leakage inductance and temperature rise are two of the more impotent problems facing the magnetic core technology of today's high frequency transformers. Excessive leakage inductance increases the stress on the switching transistors and limits the duty-cycle, and excessive temperature rise can lead the design limitation of high frequency transformer with high current. The flat transformer technology provides a very good solution to the problems of leakage inductance and thermal management for high frequency power. The critical magnetic components and windings are optimized and packaged within a completely assembled module. The turns ratio in a flat transformer is determined as the product of the number of elements or modules times the number of primary turns. The leakage inductance increase proportionately to the number of elements, but since it is reduced as the square of the turns, the net reduction can be very significant. The flat transformer modules use cores which have no gap. This eliminates fringing fluxes and stray flux outside of the core. The secondary windings are formed of flat metal and are bonded to the inside surface of the core. The secondary winding thus surrounds the primary winding, so nearly all of the flux is captured.
The purpose of this paper is to present the case study of tribological failure analysis on the gear damages, oil leakage, and sealant sealing in a manual transmission of front engine and front wheel drive vehicle. The manual transmission is to change the speed range and direction of the engines depending on the driving conditions by friction driving forces with input and output gear system. The material property and surface roughness of the gears are strongly related to the gear noise and micro-vibration, oil leakage and wear, which may decrease the real contact area of the gear and the strength of the oil film thickness between the driving gear and driven one. The O-ring damage of speedometer driven gear and bad sealant sealing of oil pan may produce oil leakage through the contact surfaces, which cause the oil shortage and seizure on the sliding surfaces of the transaxle gears. In the failure case study, the proper repair working and good lubrication are very important for the long life of the transaxle without any tribological failures and oil leakage.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the airtightness performance of New Han-ok and to supply fundamental data for standards establishment. Air leakage testings were accomplished by means of blower door test in 26 bedrooms of 16 Han-oks located in Jeonnam happy villages. Followings are results. 1) Air change per hour at 50 Pa(ACH50) is located on 8.42~78.38. 2) No correlation between ACH50 and volumes, floor area, above grade surface area. 3) The more wood structural elements are exposed, attached spaces, wooden sliding and casement windows, the less airtightness performance. 4) An Airtightness with ACH50/20(NL, Normalized leakage) is located on 0.42~3.92 and building leakage class following F(4%), G(11%, sufficiently leaky, No need mechanical ventilation), H(4%, Need of cost-effective tightening), I(31%), J(50%) by a single-story house the normalized leakage of ASHRAE.

The Cd$\_$1-x/Zn$\_$x/Te film was produced by thermal evaporation for the flat-panel X-ray detector. The crystal structure and the surface morphology of poly crystalline Cd$\_$1-x/Zn$\_$x/Te film were examined using XRD and SEM, respectively. The leakage current and X-ray sensitivity of the fabricated films were measured to analyze the X-ray response characteristic of Zn in a polycrystalline CdZnTe thin film. The leakage current and the output charge density of Cd$\_$0.7/Zn$\_$0.3/Te thin film were measured to 0.3 1nA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 260 pC/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at an applied voltage of 2.5 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively. Experimental results showed that the increase of Zn doping rates in Cd$\_$1-x/Zn$\_$x/Te detectors reduced the leakage current and improved the X-ray sensitivity significantly. The leakage current was drastically diminished by the formation of thin parylene layer in the Cd$\_$0.7/Zn$\_$0.3/Te detector.
The microleakage of direct-access Class 2 restorations was evaluated. Cavities were prepared at mesial and distal proximal enamel surfaces of 20 extracted human molars through buccal window. Prepared cavities were filled with Ketac-Fil, Ketac-Silver, and Fuji II LC, following manufacturer's instructions. 4 specimens of each restorations were made through sectioning 1/4 of bucco-lingual length mesio-distally after thermocycling between $5^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ and imerging 0.5% basic-fuchsin dye solution. Leakage at both occlusal and gingival margin of each specimen was scored 0 to 3 with stereomicroscope. The results were as follows: 1. At occlusal margin, leakage in Ketac-Fil group was more than Ketac-Silver and Fuji II LC group (ANOVA p<0.05) and there was no significant difference between Ketac-Silver and Fuji II LC group(p>0.05), and at gingival margin, there was no significant difference amang materials (p>0.05). 2. Occlusal margin leaked more than gingival margin in Ketac-Silver and Fuji II LC group (t-test p<0.05). 3. Leakage was different according to bucco-lingual location in Ketac-Fil and Fuji II LC group, and lingaul specimen exhibited more leakage(ANOVA p<0.05).
Hydrogen is receiving much research attention as an alternative substitute for hydrocarbon fuels these days due to its cleanliness and renewability. However, hydrogen should be used with caution because of its high propensity for leak and wide flammable range. This study deals with a situation that hydrogen leaks and then forms a flammable mixture inside 1kW class residential fuel cell. The residential fuel cell was modeled as a box-shaped chamber with vent openings at the top and bottom, filled with various components such as reformer, desulfurizer, fuel cell stack and humidifier. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to simulate the diffusion, buoyant flow and accumulation of leaked hydrogen in the modeled chamber. From the simulation, the risk region vulnerable to flame was identified and the methods to minimize such hazardous region was discussed. When the vent openings are 1% of the total surface, as the quantity of hydrogen leakage increases the risk regions increases accordingly. As the vent openings of the total surface increased from 1% to 2.3%, averaged hydrogen mole fraction is under 1% in the system.

It is analyzed the erosing process of the polymeric insulator for outdoor use with the inclined plane method. Materials used are the different type of silicone rubber, they have the content of filler and component each other. As the content of filler added to improve the tracking and erosion resistance. It has the difference of electrical performance and erosion rate. The dry-band arc is also the parameter of accelerating erosion, and appear in the form of leakage current, and the activities of leakage current has a close relationship with the surface hydrophobicity. In this paper, the erosion growth is observed by measuring the time from the voltage application to the whole breakdown, and the erosion depth. In addition, it is measured the hydrophobicity and leakage current to be a cause of erosion by the erosion steps, studied SEM, EDX for observing the transformation of surface structure by erosing.
