  • This study examined the effect of current density on the surface morphology and physical properties of copper plated on a polyimide (PI) film. The morphology, crystal structure, and electric characteristics of the electrodeposited copper foil were examined by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and a four-point probe, respectively. The surface roughness, crystal growth orientation and resistivity was controlled using current density. Large particles were observed on the surface of the copper layer electroplated onto a current density of 25 mA/$cm^2$. However, a uniform surface and lower resistivity were obtained with a current density of 10 mA/$cm^2$. One of the important properties of FCCL is the flexibility of the copper foil. High flexibility of FCCL was obtained at a low current density rather than a high current density. Moreover, a reasonable current density is 20 mA/$cm^2$ considering the productivity and mechanical properties of copper foil.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic scattering problems by a resistive strip grating with zero resistivity at the strip-edges on a grounded 2 dielectric layers according as strip width and spacing, relative permittivity, thickness of dielectric layers, and incident angles of a electric wave are analyzed by applying the FGMM(Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method) known as a numerical procedure. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of floguet mode functions. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients and the resistive boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the electric current density on the strip. The tapered resistivity of resistive strips varies zero resistivity at strip edges. Then the induced surface current density on the resistive strip is expanded in a series of Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The normalized reflected power with zero resistivity in this paper show in good agreement with those of existing paper.

  • In order to analyse the degradation process of epoxy/glass fiber for outdoor condition, FRP laminate was exposed to the wavelength of ultraviolet rays and evaluated by comparing contact angle, surface resistivity, surface potential decay, and ESCA spectrum respectively. As irradiation energy are increased, the surface properties were steeply decreased in the range of 300[nm]. But the measured values within the scope of400[nm]∼440[nm] showed a increase as compared with the untreated ones. Also, fromthe result of ESCA spectrum, it was confirmed plenty of oxygen groups on the spot showing the maximum decrease of surface properties and the existence of ether groups on the surface of coloring phase. We can conclude that the degradation phenomena on the surface of epoxy composites are dominated by the induction of ester and carboxyl groups.

  • In this paper, H-polarized scattering problems by a resistive strip grating with zero resistivity at strip-edges over a grounded dielectric plane according to the strip width and grating period, the relative permittivity and thickness of a dielectric layer, and incident angles of a transverse electric (TE) plane wave are analyzed by applying the Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method (FGMM). The tapered resistivity of resistive strips has zero resistivity at strip edges, then the induced surface current density on the resistive strip is expanded in a series of Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind as a orthogonal ploynomials. The sharp variations of the reflected power are due to resonance effects were previously called wood's anomallies, the numerical results for the reflected power are compared with those of uniform resistivity in the existing papers.

  • An inorganic filling agent, ATH (alumina trihydrate) was used to induce inorganic-organic coupling by mixing with stearic acid, acryl silane, vinyl silane as surface treatment agents in order to apply as a high voltage insulating material. Volumetric resistivity was shown to vary with surface treatment agents, and the highest value was obtained in case of the mixture with vinyl silane. The dielectric breakdown intensity was shown to decrease gradually and saturate to a stable value, possibly due to the increase of cross link density in the vinyl radicals introduced to silica surface, resulting in stable dielectric breakdown intensity in the final stages. Tracking and flame retardant properties were also shown to be the best among the samples investigated in this study.

  • The effect of oxygen vacancy and Sn donor on carrier density for Indium Tin oxide (ITO) and Indium oxide (InO) films has been investigated. Hot-cathode Penning discharge sputtering (HC-PDS) in the mixed gasses of argon and oxygen was applied to fabricate the ITO and InO films. Density of oxygen vacancy was estimated using a high-energy ion beam technique. The electrical properties of the films such as resistivity, carrier density and mobility were estimated by Van der Pauw method. The doping efficiency of oxygen vacancy could be obtained from the relationship between oxygen vacancy and carrier density. The doping efficiency of oxygen vacancy for ITO films resulted in a quite small value. Comparing the doping efficiencies of ITO and InO films, the effect of Sn donor on carrier density was also discussed.

  • Soil deformations such as settlement, heaving and lateral flow have frequently happened on marine reclaimed soft grounds due to embankment filling or banking. The electrical resistivity survey was applied to investigate on ground surface such soil deformation without disturbance of ground. A test embankment was performed to assess soil deformation in marine reclaimed soft grounds, where was located at Sihwa area in western coast of Korean peninsula. The soft ground was composed of clayey sediments. After embankment filling, the boundary of soil deformation affected by the filling could be investigated with application of the electrical resistivity survey. The result of electric resistivity survey shows that the extent of deformation is about 5 m laterally to the southern direction of embankment and about 5~6 m vertically in depth, which is about 1-1.2 times of embankment height. This shows that the electric resistivity survey can be applied to interpret the ground deformation in a soft ground region.

  • In this paper, The TE(transverse electric) scattering problems by a resistive strip grating over a grounded dielectric plane with edge boundary condition are analyzed by applying the FGMM(Fourier-Galerkin Moment Method) known as a numerical procedure. For a TE scattering problem, the induced surface current density is expected to the zero value at both edges of the resistive strip, then the induced surface current density on the resistive strip is expanded in a series of the multiplication of Gegenbauer(Ultraspherical) polynomials with the first order and functions of appropriate edge boundary condition. To verify the validity of the proposed method, the numerical results of normalized reflected power for the uniform resistivity R = 100 ohms/square and R = 0 as a conductive strip case show in good agreement with those in the existing papers.

  • In urban area, design and construction of civil engineering structures such as subway tunnel, underground space and deep excavation is impeded by unreliable site investigation. Variety of embedded objects, electric noises and traffic vibrations degrades the quality of site investigation, whatever the site-investigation technique would be. In this research, a preliminary research was performed to develop a dedicated site investigation technique for urban geotechnical sites, which can overcome the limitations of urban sites. HiRAS (Hybrid Integration of Surface Waves and Resistivity) technique which is the first outcome of the preliminary research was proposed in this paper. The technique combines surface wave as well as electrical resistivity. CapSASW method for surface-wave technique and PDC-R technique for electrical resistivity survey were incorporated to develop HiRAS technique. CapSASW method is a good method for evaluating material stiffness and PDC-R technique is a reliable method for determination of underground stratification even in a site with electrical noise. For the inversion analysis of HiRAS techniuqe, a site-specific relationship between stress-wave velocity and resistivity was employed. As for outgrowth of this research, the 2-D distribution of Poisson's ratio could be also determined.

  • In order to reduce leakage from a reservoir, a large amount of cement milk (grout) was injected from boreholes drilled around the shores of the reservoir, and monitored to establish the infiltration of cement milk into the bedrock under the reservoir. From laboratory tests using rock core samples, it was revealed that the resistivity of cement milk is much lower than that of the groundwater at this location. Therefore, it was expected that the resistivity of the zones filled with cement milk would be significantly reduced. Geophysical surveys are expected to be suitable methods to check the effectiveness of grouting in improving the water-retaining performance of a reservoir. DC electrical surveys (seven in total) and two Controlled Source Audio-frequency Magneto-Telluric (CSAMT) surveys were conducted along survey lines in the reservoir to monitor the infiltration of cement milk during the grouting. Extremely low resistivity zones ($10\;{\Omega}m$ or less) were observed in resistivity sections obtained by 2D inversion. The zones are inferred to be fractured zones filled with cement milk. In sections showing the rate of change of resistivity, three zones that showed significant change showed gradual expansion to deeper parts as the grouting progressed. These zones correspond to highly permeable zones detected by Lugeon tests at grout boreholes. We have confirmed that it is possible to measure the resistivity change by DC electrical and CSAMT surveys from the surface of the reservoir. It seems that such monitoring results could be reflected in future grouting plans.
