In this study, the wind direction and the wind speed of the nearest temperature observations point of the National Weather Service was analyzed in order to investigate the rapid rise and drop of water temperature in the East Coast appeared after passing of the 2015 typhoon No. 9 and 11. Then the figures were simulated and analyzed using the WRF(weather research and forecast) model to investigate in more detailed path of the typhoon as well as the changes in the wind field. The results were as follows. A sudden drop of water temperature was confirmed due to upwelling on the East coast when ninth typhoon Chanhom is transformed from tropical cyclones into extra tropical cyclone, then kept moving eastwards from Pyongyang forming a strong southerly wind after 13th and this phenomenon lasted for two days. The high SST(sea surface temperature) is confirmed due to a strong northerly wind by 11th typhoon Nangka. This strong wind directly affected the east coast for three days causing the Ekman effect which transported high offshore surface waters to the coast. The downwelling occurred causing an accumulation of high temperature surface water. As a results, the SST of 15m and 25m rose to that of 5m.

In this study, we formulated oil-in-water emulsion composition for skin care products containing jadeite powder which is well known as far-infrared radiating material. Jadeite powder could sustain stable dispersion in aqueous solvents over a month and this helped mixing it high content in oil-in-water emulsion formulation. To identify the effect of jadeite as a far-infrared radiator materials relating to the skin surface temperature change, we applied emulsion formulation containing 2 weight percent jadeite powder onto facial skin surface and blank formulation together and analyzed surface temperature with thermo-vision. Our results showed that the temperature difference between jadeite powder formulation applied region and blank formulation reached to 1.5 ~ 2.0 degree Celsius. We also performed same test with nephrite powder and titanium dioxide powder but only jadeite powder containing formulation showed significant skin temperature change. To elucidate main cause of heat energy transfer, we tested heat radiation, energy dispersive spectrometer analysis and measured far infrared radiance emissivity, diffuse reflectance spectra and water evaporation rate. We found out jadeite powder could retard water evaporation effectively from the skin surface and resist temperature drop down. This is because of the innate chemical composition and surface structure of jadeite, which can bind with water molecules to form hydrogen bonds. It is concluded that we can develop novel skin care products for moisturizing and thermos with jadeite powder.

Hydronic heated road pavement (HHP) systems have well studied and documented by many researchers. However, most of the systems run on asphalt, only a few are tested with concrete, and there rarely is a comparison between those two common road materials in their heating and cooling performance. The aim of this study is to investigate the thermal performance of the HHP, such as heat dissipation performance in winter season while focusing on the surface temperature of the concrete and asphalt pavement. For preliminary study a small-scale experimental system was designed and installed to evaluate the heat transfer characteristics of the HHP in the test field. The system consists of concrete and asphalt slabs made of 1 m in width, 1 m in length, and 0.25 m in height. In two slabs, circulating water piping was embedded at a depth of 0.12 m at intervals of 0.16 m. Heating performance in winter season was tested with different inlet temperatures of 25℃, 30℃, 35℃ and 40℃ during the entire measurement period. The results indicated that concrete's heating performance is better than that of asphalt, showing higher surface temperatures for the whole experiment cases. However, the surface temperature of both concrete and asphalt pavement slabs remained above 0℃ for all experimental conditions. The heat dissipation performance of concrete and asphalt pavements was analyzed, and the heat dissipation of concrete pavement was greater than that of asphalt. In addition, the higher the set temperature of the circulating water, the higher the heat dissipation. On the other hand, the concrete pavement clearly showed a decrease in heat dissipation as the circulating water set temperature decreased, but the decrease was relatively small for the asphalt pavement. Based on this experiment, it is considered that a circulating water temperature of 20℃ or less is sufficient to prevent road ice. However, this needs to be verified by further experiments or computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis.
A pot-lysimeter experiment was conducted with 3-year-old 'Tsugaru' apple (Malus domestica Borkh) trees to examine the changes in oxygen diffusion rate (ODR) with lateral flow velocity of water through soil. The influence of lateral water flow velocity on water relations and elemental content in leaf, and sap temperature distribution patterns of the xylem of trees were also determined. Trees were grown under four soil water regimes: (1) fast laterally flowing (FWT, $2.50{\times}10^{-4}cm\;s^{-1}$), (2) slow laterally flowing (SWT, $0.25{\times}10^{-4}cm\;s^{-1}$), and (3) stagnant water table (WLT) at 60-cm, and (4) drip-irrigation at -40 kPa of soil matric potential as a control. The rate of $O_2$ diffusion converged near $2{\times}10^{-3}g\;m^{-2}\;min^{-1}$ for FWT and control soils, but decreased below $1{\times}10^{-3}g\;m^{-2}\;min^{-1}$ 40 days after treatment (DAT) for WLT soils. For SWT soils, however, the ODR at 15 cm below the soil surface was similar to that of control, but at 45 cm below the soil surface, ODR was similar to that of the WLT treatment. Leaf water potential of FWT and SWT plants was similar to that of control plants, but the values for SWT plants declined by 98 DAT. Leaf water potential of WLT plants decreased from -1.86 MPa (9 DAT) to -2.41 MPa (59 DAT) and finally down to -2.70 MPa. The sap temperature measured at 1100-hr was lowest at top and highest at bottom for FWT and control plants, but this pattern of SWT and WLT plants was disturbed from 29 DAT. However, for SWT plants, such thermal disturbance of sap temperature disappeared from 63 DAT.

Energy balance equations Were developed to describe the heat transfer mechanisms in a double layer plastic greenhouse with a water curtain system. Heat transfer variables were determined by using various temperature data measured in a conventional prototype semicircular cross-section greenhouse over a range of water temperatures and water flow rates. The heat transfer coefficient between flowing water and greenhouse air was independent of water flow rates. But the heat transfer coefficient between water surface and the stagnant air space within the double plastic layer was dependent on water flow rates. Substituting the heat transfer coefficients, determined from the energy balance equations in the heat transfer equations, demonstrated various relationships among ambient air temperature, greenhouse air temperature, water temperature, and water flow rates. The heating benefits were linearly related to not only the inside and outside air temperatures but also to the water temperature. The energy conservation effects of the water curtain system were found even initial water temperatures were considerably lower than the greenhouse setting temperatures. Sensitivity analysis for heat transfer coefficients demonstrated that the heat transfer coefficient between greenhouse air and the stagnant air within the plastic layers was the most significant coefficient in the estimation of heating effects.

In order to illustrate the effects of water temperature inversion on the stratification variation in the South Sea of Korea, water temperature, salinity, and density measured in October and December 1999 by National Fisheries Research and Development Institute were reviewed. In October and December of 1999, temperature inversion occurred mainly between 25m and 75m, and in particular in depth of water, in December temperature inversion layer also was formed in the surface layer. In case of October and December, the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC), warm and saline water, was one of motors, and in December, influence of surface cold water was added Although northerly wind prevails in October and December, in October, expanding of the South Korean Coastal Waters (SKCW) towards offshore is not clear, but in December when wind speed is relatively greater than that in October and strength of the TWC become weak, the SKCW spreads towards offshore through the upper layer. Stratification variation was higher along the area where temperature inversion occurred.
To understand the oceanographic characteristics of Hupo coastal waters as regards the East Korean Warm Current and the North Korean Cold Current, current direction and velocity were investigated by deploying a current meter in Hupo coastal waters during the summer and fall of 2007. Wind data were obtained from the homepage of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Water temperature was measured using a temperature meter attached to the current meter and a mini log. During summer, a south wind prevailed, while during the fall the wind blew from the north. Cold surface waters occurred on a large scale in summer, while in the fall, warm bottom water occurred frequently. After mid-November, when the surface water was cooler than $15^{\circ}C$, there was no difference in water temperature between the surface and bottom layers.

The evaporation cooling phenomenon of a droplet containing a surfactant on a heated surface has been studied experimentally. The two kinds of heater modules made of brass and Teflon$^{TM}$ were tested to investigate the cooling characteristics of droplet. Solutions of water containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate(0 ppm, 100 ppm, 1000 ppm) were tested in the experiments. The results showed that the contact angle decrease as the concentration of surfactant increases. The tendency did not very with different heated solid materials. As initial temperature of the heated surface becomes high, time averaged heat flux increases and evaporation time decreases with the denser concentration of surfactant. Therefore, water with denser concentration of surfactant could be effective to cool flammable materials. However, the effect of surfactant becomes low as the material temperature is higher than the boiling temperature of water.

Silicon oxide films with high hardness and water repellency were prepared by microwave plasma-enhanced CVD using four kind of organosilicon compound-fluoro-alkyl silane mixtures as source gases. An argon gas was used as a carrier gas for fluoro-alkyl silane. The substrate temperatures during deposition were controlled by resistant heating at a constant value between 50 and $300^{\circ}C$. The hardness of the films increased, but the deposition rate and the contact angle for a water drop decreased with increasing substrate temperature. The number of methoxy groups also affected the water repellency and hardness. The deposited films became more inorganic with increasing substrate temperature because of the thermal dissociation of reactants.
This study is carried out to evaluate the commercial feasibility of the room temperature and thermal polymerization method as a lens manufacturing method. All samples are found to be transparent after polymerization, thereby indicating that their physical and surface properties are suitable for hydrogel ophthalmic lenses. The optical and physical properties of the lenses are compared. The water content of the samples that are prepared via a room temperature polymerization process decreases with the addition of MMA as compared to the water content of the samples that are prepared via thermal polymerization. When MMA and DMA are used as an additive for improving functionality, the wettability of the lenses increases. By measuring the AFM, the surface roughness is shown to improve more than MMA and DMA. Therefore, it is judged to be an appropriate process for manufacturing hydrogel lenses with high functionality.
