A new approach based on implicit surface interpolation combined with domain decomposition is proposed for filling complex-shaped holes in a large polygon model, A surface was constructed by creating a smooth implicit surface from an incomplete polygon model through which the actual surface would pass. The implicit surface was defined by a radial basis function, which is a continuous scalar-value function over the domain $R^{3}$. The generated surface consisted of the set of all points at which this scalar function is zero. It was created by placing zero-valued constraints at the vertices of the polygon model. The well-known domain decomposition method was used to treat the large polygon model. The global domain of interest was divided into smaller domains in which the problem could be solved locally. The LU decomposition method was used to solve the set of small local problems; the local solutions were then combined using weighting coefficients to obtain a global solution. The validity of this new approach was demonstrated by using it to fill various holes in large and complex polygon models with arbitrary topologies.
A finite difference method for calculating turbulent flow and surface wave fields around a ship model is evaluated through the comparison with the experimental data of a Series 60 $C_B$=0.6 ship model. The method solves the Reynolds-averaged Navior-Stokes Equations using the non-staggered grid system, the four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme for the temporal integration of governing equations and the Bladwin-Lomax model for the turbulence closure. The free surface waves are captured by solving the equation of the kinematic free-surface condition using the Lax-Wendroff scheme and free-surface conforming grids are generated at each time step so that one of the grid surfaces coincides always with the free surface. The computational results show an overall close agreement with the experimental data and verify that the present method can simulate well the turbulent boundary layers and wakes as well as the free-surface waves.
In the numerical weather model, surface properties can be defined by various parameters such as terrain height, landuse, surface albedo, soil moisture, surface emissivity, roughness length and so on. And these parameters need to be improved in the Seoul metropolitan area that established high-rise and complex buildings by urbanization at a recent time. The surface roughness length map is developed from digital elevation model (DEM) and it is implemented to the high-resolution numerical weather (WISE-WRF) model. Simulated results from WISE-WRF model are analyzed the relationship between meteorological variables to changes in the surface roughness length. Friction speed and wind speed are improved with various surface roughness in urban, these variables affected to temperature and relative humidity and hence the surface roughness length will affect to the precipitation and Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) height. When surface variables by the WISE-WRF model are validated with Automatic Weather System (AWS) observations, NEW experiment is able to simulate more accurate than ORG experiment in temperature and wind speed. Especially, wind speed is overestimated over $2.5m\;s^{-1}$ on some AWS stations in Seoul and surrounding area but it improved with positive correlation and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) below $2.5m\;s^{-1}$ in whole area. There are close relationship between surface roughness length and wind speed, and the change of surface variables lead to the change of location and duration of precipitation. As a result, the accuracy of WISE-WRF model is improved with the new surface roughness length retrieved from DEM, and its surface roughness length is important role in the high-resolution WISE-WRF model. By the way, the result in this study need various validation from retrieved the surface roughness length to numerical weather model simulations with observation data.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the failure surface in a soil mass by a excavation of the model ground. The failure mechanism of an earth structure is usually determined from field failure observations or from laboratory model tests at failure. To study the failure surface for the excavated slope, laboratory model tests were performed by changing the angle of the excavated slope and the ground condition. Results of the laboratory model tests were compared with those obtained with theoretical solutions using limit equilibrium analysis method. The results of model tests show that, there is a failure to create a straight line in the low angle of excavated surface and a create a circle as the angle increases. As the angle of excavated surface is increasing, the angle of the failure surface increases too. In the angle of the failure surface, the submerged ground is less than the dry ground at $3.2^{\circ}$.

The results of a numerical study on the performance of a propeller operating near a free surface are presented. The numerical simulations were performed for the various advance coefficients and the submergence depths of the model propeller. The effects of the model propeller size were investigated using two different model propeller sizes for all cases. The wave pattern of the free surface and the flow structure around the propeller as well as the hydrodynamic characteristics of the propeller were investigated through simulation results. The thrust and torque fluctuated and the trajectory of the tip vortex was distorted due to the interaction with the free surface. The wave pattern of the free surface was related to the tip vortex of the propeller. The decreases in thrust and torque at the small model propeller were greater than those of the large model propeller. The reduction rate of the thrust and torque increased with the advance coefficient.

This study concerns an advanced 3D surface reconstruction method that the vertices of surface model can be completely matched to the unstructured point cloud measured from arbitrary complex shapes. The concept of bounding voxel model is introduced to generate the mesh model well-representing the geometrical and topological characteristics of point cloud. In the reconstruction processes, the application of various methodologies such as shrink-wrapping, mesh simplification, local subdivision surface fitting, insertion of is isolated points, mesh optimization and so on, are required. Especially, the effectiveness, rapidity and reliability of the proposed surface reconstruction method are demonstrated by the simulation results for the geometrically and topologically complex shapes like dragon and human mouth.

The achievable machining accuracy depends upon the level of the micro-engineering, and the today's accuracy targets are dimensional tolerances in the order of 10nm and surface roughness in the order of 1nm. Such requirements cannot be satisfied by the conventional machining processes. Single point diamond turning is the one of new techniques which can produce the parts with such accuracy limits. The aims of this thesis are to get a better understanding of the complex cutting process with a diamond tool and, consequently, to develope a predicting model of a turned surface profile. In order to predict the turned surface profile, a numerical model has been developed. By means of this model, the influence of the operational settings-the material properties of the workpiece, the geometry of the cutting tool and the dynamic behaviour of the lathe-and their influences via the cutting forces upon the surface roughness have been estimated.

Soil moisture is significantly related to crop growth and plays an important role in irrigation management. To predict soil moisture, various process-based model has been developed and used in the world. Various models (Land surface model) may have different performance depending on the model parameters and structures that causes the different model output for the same modeling condition. In this study, the three land surface models (Noah Land Surface Model, Soil Water Atmosphere Plant, Community Land Model) were used to compare the model performance (soil moisture prediction) and develop the multi-model simulation. At first, the genetic algorithm was used to estimate the optimal soil parameters for each model, and the parameters were used to predict soil moisture in the study area. Then, we used the multi-model approach based on Bayesian model averaging (BMA). The results derived from this approach showed a better match to the measurements than the results from the original single land surface model. In addition, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the single model and utilizing multi-model methods can help to increase the accuracy of soil moisture prediction.

Currently hydrofluoric acid (HF) based glass etch method is widely used for anti-glare (AG) surface treatment since it can effectively alleviate the specular reflection problem with relatively low processing cost. However, due to the environmental regulation and safety problem, it is essential to develop alternative technology to replace this method. For this, in this paper, we propose sand blasting based AG surface treatment method for display glass. To characterize the sand blasting process, surface roughness, haze, surface durability, and flatness are considered as process outputs and central composite design (CCD) method and response surface model (RSM) method are applied to model each process output. Models for surface roughness and haze showed 96.44% and 97.24% of R-squared values, respectively and they can be applied to optimize AG surface treatment process for various haze level requirements of display industries.
In this paper I discuss a method of constructing the confidence region for the logistic response surface model. The construction involves a, pp.ication of a general fitting procedure because the log odds is linear in its parameters. Estimation of parameters of the logistic response surface model can be accomplished by maximum likelihood, although this requires iterative computational method. Using the asymptotic results, asymptotic covariance of the estimators can be obtained. This can be used in the construction of confidence regions for the parameters and for the logistic response surface model.
