Future climate changes over the Seoul metropolitan area (SMA) were predicted by the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model using future land-use data from the urban growth model (SLEUTH) and forecast fields from ECHAM5/MPI-OM1 GCM (IPCC scenario A1B). Simulations from the SLEUTH model with GIS information (slope, urban, hill-shade, etc.) derived from the water management information system (WAMIS) and the intelligent transportation systems-standard nodes link (ITS-SNL) showed that considerable increase by 17.1% in the fraction of urban areas (FUA) was found within the SMA in 2020. To identify the effects of the urban growth on the temperature and wind variations in the future, WRF simulations by considering urban growth were performed for two seasons (summer and winter) in 2020s (2018~2022) and they were compared with those in the present (2003~2007). Comparisons of model results showed that significant changes in surface temperature (2-meter) were found in an area with high urban growth. On average in model domain, positive increases of $0.31^{\circ}C$ and $0.10^{\circ}C$ were predicted during summer and winter, respectively. These were higher than contributions forced by climate changes. The changes in surface temperature, however, were very small expect for some areas. This results suggested that surface temperature in metropolitan areas like the SMA can be significantly increased only by the urban growth during several decades.
Nowadays, the discharges of urban streams during dry season are depleted because the hydrologic cycle in the watershed has been destroyed due to the expansion of the impermeable area, the excessive groundwater pumping, climate change, and so forth. The streamflow depletion may bring out severe water quality problems. This research are to investigate the hydrologic characteristics and to develop a technology to restore sound hydrologic cycle of Anyangcheon watershed. For the hydrological cycle analysis of the Anyangcheon watershed, continuous simulations of urban runoff were performed for the upstream basin of Gocheok bridge whose basin area covered 4/5 of the whole catchment area. The increase of impervious area by urbanization was analysed and its effect on urban runoff was evaluated. The SWMM 5 (Storm Water Management Model 5) was used for the continuous simulation of urban runoff. The analysis results of urbanization effect on runoff are as follows: the surface runoff in 2000 increases to 65% of the whole precipitation whereas the surface runoff in 1975 amounts to 50% of the precipitation; the groundwater runoff in 2000 amounts to 7% and shows 6% decrease during the period from 1975 to 2000.
The contamination problem is getting worse now a day because of the industrial activities. Recently it has been announced that there's environmental hormone in river and lake which produces clean water, also there's too many of algae reproduces under the water and some virus in the drinking water. The quality of water is very important. pure and clean water is not only a precondition for human being to live but a basic factor to improve the quality of life. so a water purification system must be developed. This study is about the surface washing treatment technique. We tried to use a rotary nozzle to get a tush degree of efficiency, for it was not enough with present way of washing. The nozzle is run by water pressure. The results of the experiment are as follows. We got a clean and equal surface after washing. After washing, the water's maximum consistency was 330NTU and it shows that this way is better than before one with 215NTU. Clean level of the filter was 6$^{\circ}$and it's 2.8 times higher than 17$^{\circ}$with the old way. We can see the results that the new way of washing is more effective than old way based on this study.
Since the inception of off-line quality control, it has drawn a particular attention from research community and it has been implemented in a wide variety of industries mainly due to its extensive applicability to numerous real situations. Emphasizing design issues rather than control issues related to manufacturing processes, off-line quality control has been recognized as a cost-effective approach to quality improvement. It mainly consists of three design stages: system design, parameter design, and tolerance design which are implemented in a sequential manner. Utilizing experimental designs and optimization techniques, off-line quality control is aimed at achieving product performance insensitive to external noises by reducing process variability. In spite of its conceptual soundness and practical significance, however, off-line quality control has also been criticized to a great extent due to its heuristic nature of investigation. In addition, it has also been pointed out that the process optimization procedures are inefficient. To enhance the current practice of off-line quality control, this study proposes an integrated optimization model by utilizing a well-established statistical tool, so called response surface methodology (RSM), and a tolerance - cost relationship.
Korea and Japan hosted the FIFA World Cup Soccer Game in 2002. Ten stadiums had been built and more than 30 soccer grounds for practice were renovated in Korea. Sport fields in both countries had problems on cool-season turfgrass growth and quality by summer decline during humid and warm climate especially followed by intensive uses. We measured the effects of air-flow system, which is designed to optimize rootzone soil gas and moisture levels to promote the growth and maintenance turfgrass. This experiment was carried out to verify the effects of the system on soil gas exchange, ground resilience, and turfgrass recovery in turfgrass rootzone. Within 1 or 2hr of operation of the system, rootzone soil gas ($CO_2$, $O_2$) levels returned to natural atmospheric levels completely Soil $CO_2$ levels began to decrease within the first 10 min of operation of the system. The levels were reduced from 1.3 to 0.06% after 30 min, and natural atmospheric levels within 1 hr. When the system was turned off, $CO_2$ levels increased to 0.36% and 0.7% after 5 and 20 hr, respectively. The application of the system did not affect the resilience of turf surface after traffic treatments. Higher traffic treatment resulted in higher surface resilience especially in zoysiagrass plots. Operation of the system had a significant beneficial impact on turf recovery by increased root dry wight and improved turf quality, as compared with the non-operated check plots.

The smart irrigation system using ICT technology is crucial for stable production of upland crops. The objective of this study was to develop a smart irrigation system that can control soil water, depending on irrigation methods, in order to improve crop production. In surface irrigation, three irrigation methods (sprinkler irrigation (SI), surface drip irrigation (SDI), and fountain irrigation (FI)) were installed on a crop field. The soil water contents were measured at 10, 20, 30, and 40 cm depth, and an automatic irrigation system controls a valve to maintain the soil water content at 10 cm to be 30%. In subsurface drip irrigation (SSDI), the drip lines were installed at a depth of 20 cm. Controlled drainage system (CDS) was managed with two ground water level (30 cm and 60 cm). The seasonal irrigation amounts were 96.4 ton/10a (SDI), 119.5 ton/10a (FI), and 113 ton/10a (SI), respectively. Since SDI system supplied water near the root zone of plants, the water was saved by 23.9% and 17.3%, compared with FI and SI, respectively. In SSDI, the mean soil water content was 38.8%, which was 10.8% higher than the value at the control treatment. In CDS, the water contents were greatly affected by the ground water level; the water contents at the surface zone with 30 cm ground water level was 9.4% higher than the values with 60 cm ground water level. In conclusion, this smart irrigation system can reduce production costs of upland crops.

Increase of delivery effect of pollutant loads and surface runoff due to urbanization of catchment area results in serious environmental problems in receiving urban streams. This study aims to develop integrated stormwater management system to assist efficient urban stream flow and water quality control using information from the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM), real time water level and quality monitoring system and remote or automatic treatment facility control system. Based on field observations in the study site, most of the pollutant loads are flushed within 4 hours of the rainfall event. SWMM simulation results indicates that the treatment system can store up to 6 mm of cumulative rainfall in the study catchment area, and this means any type of normal rainfall situation can be treated using the system. Relationship between rainfall amount and fill time were developed for various rainfall duration for operation of stormwater treatment system in this study. This study can further provide inputs of river water quality model and thus can effectively assist integrated water resources management in urban catchment and streams.
In this study, the influence of decentralized rainwater management over the changes in evapotranspiration was analyzed. The analysis method was obtained by establishing the decentralized rainwater management plan according to different scenarios, and subsequently examined evapotranspiration in the plan. Scenario 1 refers to the analysis of the existing situation, in which was 100% of a parking lot is asphalt pavement. In Scenario 2, the pavement of the parking surface in the parking lot is replaced with lawn blocks. In Scenario 3, some asphalt pavement was removed to establish a flower-bed type infiltration system to allow rainwater to permeate. In Scenario 4, infiltration and storage of rain water would be achieved by transforming the parking surface into lawn blocks, keeping the asphalt for the parking road while establishing a vegetation strip. The amount of evapotranspiration of the target site was analyzed with a water budget analysis program (CAT) using the 2001 meteorological data for each scenario According to the analysis values of S2 and S3, it was found that evapotranspiration is critically affected by the amount of area replaced with pervious area in the total target site. An energy equivalent to 680kWh is required for 1 ton of water to evaporate. Hence, it can be seen that the active inducement of evapotranspiration in urban area makes a positive contribution not only to heat island mitigation, but also to the small-scale water circulation process in a city.

We assessed the coastal landscape of Jeju and Busan cities, respectively. In the study, we tried to estimate the coastal landscape based on the micro-scale and visualization landscape concepts. According to the estimation, the seawater pumping line causes the serious problem of coastal landscape. It means that water management treatment system of coastal region has been an important problem in Jeju city and Busan city since the slight problem was not corrected such as the distributions of pipeline of the pumping system making a bad view in coastal region. To solve the problem, we observed the pipeline distributions that were on the surface around the coastal region. we proposed two methods, that is, one is a short time treatment, the other is a long time one. The short is based on the colour treatment, which is pipeline colour changing into surround natural one. The long time is the construction design method which needs construction management method. Although the later method was very useful in Jeju island and Busan city. However, it takes a lot of time and money. Therefore, in the situation, the short time plan is more useful method than the long time one.
