  • O Having a highly reliable plan for the process and estimating an accurate construction period during the early stages of a construction project can prevent falsifying the plan and reduce the occurrence of construction delays. Moreover, it allows a succession of swift and accurate decisions to happen. The difficulty in obtaining an accurate estimate of the construction period is especially prominent in high-rise building projects because the works involved are very complicated and costly. As such, it is important that research is done to find out the impacts a reliable plan and good estimate of the construction period can bring with regards to the monthly work efficiency and success of a high-rise building project. However, due to the difference in climatic conditions at high altitude and surface level, the current way of calculating work efficiency in a typical project is inaccurate for a high-rise building project. With that, this paper aims to compute the work efficiency with height, taking into consideration the change in climatic elements at different working heights. A comparison of the results according to the climatic features of each city can also be done in this paper. According to the results calculated in work altitudes, the work efficiency in Busan falls the most. On the other hands, the work efficiency in Seoul falls the least. The reason these results are shown is the influence of wind speed at high altitude. The estimation of work efficiency at high altitude would be used for estimating construction period, feasibility studies, and selecting a city of high-rise building projects.

  • BACKGROUND: This study was carried out in order to closely examine the influence of fertilization upon growth in container of seedling in indeciduous Quercus species (Q. mysinaefolia, Q. acuta and Q. glauca). METHODS AND RESULTS: Fertilizer level was made by adjusting water soluble compound fertilizer (N:P:K=19: 19:19, v/v) to 1000, 2000, $3000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ level along with non-fertilizing plot. Fertilization increased height, root collar diameter growth, and dry weight in these three species of trees. The more increase in fertilizer level led to the more rise even in growth of these species. H/D ratio and T/R ratio also showed tendency of getting bigger in the more rise in fertilizer level. Photosynthetic rate was shown to get higher in the higher fertilizer level according to fertilization in all the three species. In the analysis of root morphological traits, the total root length was surveyed to be longer in the more rise in fertilizer concentration. As even a case of root project area, surface area, and root volume is the similar tendency to characteristics in the total root length, a rise depending on fertilization was observed. CONCLUSION: In light of the results in this experiment, the fertilizer level is judged to be $2000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ level that is proper for production of 1-year-old container seedling in indeciduous Quercus species with excellent root development and high seedling quality index.

  • Nine soil media when placed over a plastic sheet with three seeding rates were evaluated for influence on covering rate, height, growth, surface hardness, tear strength and sod establishment of Kentucky bluegrass. 1. Bark, peat and vermiculite over a plastic sheet had good effect in terms of the establishment of Kentucky bluegrass sod. 2. The good establishment of Kentucky bluegrass sod grown on bark, peat and vermiculite over a plastic sheet seemed to be caused by physical and chemical properties of each soil medium. 3. Sand, sandy loam, perlite and peatmoss caused poor effects on the covering rate, the growth, and the tear strength of Kentucky bluegrass. 4. Optimum seeding rate was $10g/m^2$ in terms of density and competition. 5. Good quality sod more depended on soil media than on seeding rates in this study.

  • Observations on the seedling growth of red pepper responding to different temperature(10, 20, 3$0^{\circ}C$) and light intensity(5, 15, 25 klux) were made in the growth Chamber during 7 weeks. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Best results of the combinations of temperature and light intensity were obtained from the combinated treatment of 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 25klux. At all of the temperature levels in this experiment, the more the light intensity is high, the more the growth is favor, but at low temperature below 2$0^{\circ}C$ and low light intensity below 15 klux, the growth of red pepper seedlings was decreased markedly. 2. Multiple regression polynomial equations of the characteristics of red pepper seedlings grown in the different combinations of temperature and light intensity fitted well in the plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, stem dry weight and shoot dry weight. 3. Multiple regression polynomial equation to the shoot dry weight was partial differentiated and diagrammatized the response surface using its theoretical value. Light intensity affected more to the shoot dry weight in the temperature below 2$0^{\circ}C$ but above 2$0^{\circ}C$ the role of the temperature showed greatly influence however, interaction effects of light intensity and temperature showed strongly.

  • In order to optimize the evaluation of biomass in crop monitoring, accurate and timely data of the crop-field are required. Evaluating above-ground biomass helps to monitor crop vitality and to predict yield. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery are being assessed for analyzing within field spatial variability for agricultural precision management, because UAV imagery may be acquired quickly during critical periods of rapid crop growth. This study reports on the development of remote sensing techniques for evaluating the biomass of winter crop. Specific objective was to develop statistical models for estimating the dry weight of barley and wheat using a Excess Green index ($E{\times}G$) based Vegetation Fraction (VF) and a Crop Surface Model (CSM) based Plant Height (PH) value. As a result, the multiple linear regression equations consisting of three independent variables (VF, PH, and $VF{\times}PH$) and above-ground dry weight provided good fits with coefficients of determination ($R^2$) ranging from 0.86 to 0.99 with 5 cultivars. In the case of the barley, the coefficient of determination was 0.91 and the root mean squared error of measurement was $102.09g/m^2$. And for the wheat, the coefficient of determination was 0.90 and the root mean squared error of measurement was $110.87g/m^2$. Therefore, it will be possible to evaluate the biomass of winter crop through the UAV image for the crop growth monitoring.

  • Background: The regression of the left ventricular hypertrophy after prosthetic valve replacement in patients with aortic valvular stenosis is an important factor to determine the appropriateness of the replaced prosthetic valvular size. Methods: To assess the regression of myocardial hypertrophy, a retrospective analysis of Doppler echocardiographic and electrocardiographic data was undertaken before, soon after(7.5$\pm$2.1 day), and late after(10.7$\pm$1.8 months) surgery in 36 patients(22 males, 14 female, mean age 54$\pm$12.1 years, mean BSA 1.61$\pm$0.15m2) with predominant aortic valvular stenosis. The patients underwent St. Jude Medical aortic valve replacement. By the size of the valves used, the patients were divided into three groups(19, 21 and 23+). Results: The mean body surface area(1.48$\pm$0.13) in the patients with the 19 mm valve was smaller than that in the other groups(1.63$\pm$0.12)(p<0.05). No significant changes of ejection fraction were detected in all groups over time. Left ventricular muscle mass index(gm/m2) was reduced significantly in the 21 and 23+ groups over time(p<0.05), but there were no significant changes in the 19 mm valve group. The electric voltage height on EKG at the period of late after surgery was reduced significantly in all groups(p<0.05). Conclusion: Despite clinical improvement, the LVH was not reduced significantly in 19 mm valve group. Thus we suggest that more attention and additional procedures such as annular enlargement should be taken in patients who will undergo the replacement of 19 mm prosthetic valve.

  • The homoepitaxy of Si(5 5 12) at $495^{\circ}C$ has been studied by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy under ultrahigh vacuum. A Si-dimer is the basic building-block and preferentially adsorbs on a unique site, that is, the Si-dimer/adatom site at the (337) and the (225) subsections within the Si(5 5 12) unit cell. The Si(5 5 12) unit cell is faceted to $3\times(337)$ subsections filled with Si-addimers and $1\times(113)$ subsection. In this step the tetramer at the other (337) section within the unit cell is transformed to a dimer/adatom site which can accept Si-dimers. Each (337) section is faceted to $1\times(112)\;and\;1\times(113)$, and then finally the unit cell of Si(5 5 12) is faceted to $3\tiems(112)\;and\;4\times(113)$ and forms the facet of effective height, $2.34{\AA}$. In this step, mutual transformation between the honeycomb chain and the dimer/adatom occurs. Finally, the valley between (112) and (113) facets is filled. If once the last step is completed, the uniform and planar Si(5 5 12) terrace is recovered. From the present study, therefore, it can be concluded that the homoepitaxy on Si(5 5 12) is periodically achieved and such growth mode is quite unique since faceting of the substrate-unit-cell plays a critical role for controlling uniformity of the overlayer.

  • According to the improvement of computer's performance, the development of Geographic Information System (GIS), and the activation of offering information, a distributed model for analyzing runoff has been studied a lot in recently years. The distribution model is a theoretical and physical model computing runoff as making target basin subdivided parted. In the distributed model developed by this study, the volume of runoff at the surface flow is calculated on the basis of the parameter determined by landcover data and a two-dimensional diffusion wave equation. Most of existing runoff models compute velocity and discharge of flow by applying Manning-Strickler's mean velocity equation and Manning's roughness coefficient. Manning's roughness coefficient is not matched with dimension and ambiguous at computation; Nevertheless, it is widely used in because of its convenience for use. In order to improve those problems, this study developed the runoff model by applying not only Manning-Strickler's equation but also Chezy's mean velocity equation. Furthermore, this study introduced a power law of exponential friction factor expressed by the function of roughness height. The distributed model developed in this study is applied to 6 events of fan-shape basin, oblong shape test basin and Anseongcheon basin as real field conditions. As a result the model is found to be excellent in comparison with the exiting runoff models using for practical engineering application.
