This study investigates the characteristics of turbulent fluxes observed at Ieodo Ocean Research Station (IORS) in autumn 2014. The 10 Hz IORS data is quality controlled and calculated to be the 30 minutes turbulent fluxes. The quality control consists of five steps: a weather check, Vickers and Mahrt (VM) sequential check, VM parallel check, flag check, and direction check. Since the IORS is an open-sea station with no orographic influence, there are no significant diurnal variations for the turbulent fluxes and 10 m wind speed. According to stabilities, the unstable and semi-unstable states appear more than 28% and 70% in autumn, respectively and they have strong winds of over $10m\;s^{-1}$. In addition, the turbulent fluxes increase with increasing wind speed. In particular, the latent heat flux and its deviations are clearly shown because the latent heat flux is influenced by the change of both the sea surface roughness and wave height induced by the wind. To demonstrate the changes of the turbulent fluxes before and after typhoon, Vongpong (1419), which is the most intense typhoon affecting the Korean Peninsula in 2014, is considered. The turbulent flux fluctuates in accordance with the location of Vongpong. The turbulent fluxes have a large (small) variation when Vongpong approaches (retreats) at the IORS. The overall results represent that the IORS data helps us understand physical processes related to air-sea interaction by providing the valuable and reliable observed data.

Spray cooling is a technology of increasing interest for electronic cooling and other high heat flux applications. In this study, heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) and critical heat fluxes (CHFs) are measured on a smooth square flat copper heater of $9.53{\times}9.53mm$ at $36^{\circ}C$ in a pool, a smooth flat surface and Thermoexcel-E surfaces are used to see the change in HTCs and CHFs according to the surface characteristics and FC-72 is used as the working fluid. FC-72 fluid has a significant influence on heat transfer characteristics of the spray over the cooling surface. HTCs are taken from $10kW/m^2$ to critical heat flux for all surfaces. Test results with Thermoexcel-E showed that CHFs of all enhanced surface is greatly improved. It can be said that surface form affects heat transfer coefficient and critical heat flux.

In this paper, experiments investigating the high-temperature region heat transfer coefficients for the spray cooling of hot flat plates were performed by down spray water using flat spray nozzles. The heat transfer surface is made of copper and is 100mm in length and 40mm in width and 15mm in thickness. The experimental condition of spray are as follows: temperatures of the water droplets are T=20~$80^{\circ}C$ and droplets volume fluxes are D=0.001565~0.010438$m^3/m^2s$. Next, correlating equations for the heat transfer characteristics of spray cooling in the high temperature region are developed from the effects of droplets volume flux and the surface temperature of heat transfer plate.
Surface energy and $CO_2$ fluxes have been measured over an ocean at Ieodo Ocean Research Station of KORDI since May 2003. Eddy covariance technique, which is a direct flux measurement, is used to quantitatively understand the interaction between the ocean surface and the atmospheric boundary layer. Although fluxes were continuously measured during the period from May 2003 to February 2004, the quality control of these data yielded <20% of data retrieval. The atmospheric stability did not show any distinct dirunal patterns and remained near-neutral to stable from May to June but mostly unstable during fall and winter in 2003. Sensible heat flux showed a good correlation with the difference between the sea water temperature and the air temperature. The maximum fluxes of sensible heat and latent heat were $120Wm^{-2}$ and $350Wm^{-2}$ respectively, with an averaged Bowen ratio of 0.2. The ocean around the tower absorbed $CO_2$ from the atmosphere and the uptake rates showed seasonal variations. Based our preliminary results, the daytime $CO_2$ flux was steady with an average of $-0.1 mgCO_2m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in summer and increased in winter. The nighttime $CO_2$ uptake was greater and fluctuating, reaching up to $-0.1 mgCO_2m^{-2}s^{-1}$ but these data require further examination due to weak turbulent mixing at nighttime. The magnitude of $CO_2$ flux was positively correlated with the half hourly changes in horizontal mean wind speed. Due to the paucity of quality data, further data collection is needed for more detailed analyses and interpretation.
Northern Arabian Sea (NAS) between $17^{\circ}N-20.5^{\circ}N$ and $59^{\circ}E-69^{\circ}E$ was observed by using Argo float daily data fur about 9 months, from April 2002 through December 2002. Results showed that during April - May mixed layer shoaled due to light winds, clear sky and intense solar insolation. Sea surface temperature (SST) rose by $2.3^{\circ}C$ and ocean gained an average of 99.8 $Wm^{-2}$. Mixed layer reached maximum depth of about 71 m during June - September owing to strong winds and cloudy skies. Ocean gained abnormally low $\sim18Wm^{-2}$ and SST dropped by $3.4^{\circ}C$. During the inter monsoon period, October, mixed layer shoaled and maintained a depth of 20 to 30 m. November - December was accompanied by moderate winds, dropping of SST by $1.5^{\circ}C$ and ocean lost an average of 52.5 $Wm^{-2}$. Mixed layer deepened gradually reaching a maximum of 62 m in December. Analysis of surface fluxes and winds suggested that winds and fluxes are the dominating factors causing deepening of mixed layer during summer and winter monsoon periods respectively. Relatively big]h correlation between MLD, net heat flux and wind speed revealed that short term variability of MLD coincided well with short term variability of surface forcing.

An experimental study on the air-side pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient of slit fin-tube heat exchanger has been carried out. The data reduction methodology for air-side heat transfer coefficients in the literature is not based on a consistent approach. This paper focuses on new method of data reduction to obtain the air-side performance of fin-tube heat exchanger using R22 and recommends standard procedures for dry and wet surface heat transfer estimation in fin-tube heat exchanger having refrigerant on the tube-side. Results are presented as plots of friction f-factor and Colburn j -factor against Reynolds number based on the fin collar outside diameter and compared with previous studies. The data covers a range of refrigerant mass fluxes of 150∼250 kg/$m^2$s with air flows at velocity ranges from 0.3 m/s to 0.8 m/s.

An inverse boundary analysis of surface radiation in an axisymmetric cylindrical enclosure has been conducted in this study. Net energy exchange method was used to calculate the radiative heat flux on each surface, and a hybrid genetic algorithm was adopted to minimize an objective function, which is expressed by sum of square errors between estimated and measured or desired heat fluxes on the design surface. We have examined the effects of the measurement error as well as the number of measurement points on the estimation accuracy. Furthermore, the effect of a variation in one boundary condition on the other boundary conditions was also investigated to get the same desired heat flux and temperature distribution on the design surface.

The pool boiling behavior of a heated surface has been investigated experimentally, focusing on the cases when only a part of the contact surface is heated. Characteristic boiling curves are obtained with circular metal surface test pieces heated below while immersed in Refrigerant-113. Locally heated test pieces are fabricated by inserting a heating block at the center inside a larger conducting block. Overall heat transfer rates are measured while the experimental conditions are systematically varied. The local temperature profiles along the radius are measured for conducting blocks. It is found that the conjugated boiling condition exists and the total heat fluxes should be correlated to a suitably defined temperature difference.
