  • This paper tries to examine the effectiveness of inventory reduction to the productivity increase and the impact of production environments on its effectiveness utilizing the Profit Impact of Market Strategy (PIMS) Database from the Strategic Planning Institute, a large data set that covers a variety of manufacturing activities from the early 1970s to late 1980s. The empirical results of this paper support the robustness of the principle of "Lean Production" or JIT system (also referred to as "Stockless Production"). We also find that the overall environment in which manufacturing strategic business units operate is an important factor in determining the different degrees of effectiveness of the work-in process (and raw materials) invertory reductions. In particular, we find that the effectiveness of the work-in process reduction varies according to the position in the product life cycly as well as the complexity and characteristics of the production processes.roduction processes.

  • From the present geographical environment of Korean peninsular the Republic of Korea is worser than the an island country of Japan In the point of Northeastern Asia energy network. Therefore the energy cooperation with South and North Korea is direct connect to the Northeast Asian Energy Network. It is most important that North Korea promotes the economics by themselves through the solving of their energy Problem with South Korea. Therefore, at the moment it is necessary to support North Korea with the cooperation of energy technologies that could be useful to set up the Northeast Asia Energy Network and which is important to form the energy system of Korean peninsular. In this paper to importance of cooperation for energy technology and the present of economics and energy demand/supply in North Korea and energy technology of North Korea & the comparison energy technology level of the both countries and cooperation between South and North Korea is described.

  • Purpose: This research aims to verify the role of mobile shopping attributes, trustworthiness, and cultural dimensions on mobile shopping intentions in Saudi Arabia. The originality of the model stems from the verification of the moderating impact of cultural variables, namely collectivism and masculinity, and from the integration of trustworthiness as a variable depending on mobile shopping attributes. Research design, data and methodology: A survey was distributed to 233 consumers with different nationalities living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Structural equation modeling and multi-group analysis were carried out to verify the conceptual model and the moderating variables. Results: The findings support the influence of several innovation attributes, namely complexity and trialability on behavioral intentions, while relative advantage has a direct impact on trustworthiness. A few paths are moderated by masculinity and collectivism. Conclusions: Culture and mobile commerce attributes need to be thought out by managers as factors influencing mobile commerce segmentation for expatriates and locals. Trustworthiness is also a key factor of mobile shopping adoption. Limitations and future research ideas are presented to enrich the proposed model and improve its predictive validity.

  • This study analyzed the factors that influence the research productivity of 236 graduate students who are funded by the Global Ph.D. Fellowship Program of the National Research Foundation of Korea. Research productivity was measured by the number of SCI publications, and the explanatory factors are the demographic factor, the financial factor, the reputation of institutions and the supervisor factor. This study included 2 indices such as the reputation of institutions and the research productivity of supervisors to check the halo effect unlike other studies. Results are as follows: 1) no gender difference, 2) better performance by younger age group, 3) no difference even if the students are additionally funded by other research support programs, 4) no halo effect by the reputation of institution but rather better performance from low ranked universities, 5) and a positive halo effect by supervisors.

  • Korean Government has established a lot of S&T laws to promote National Science and Technology since established the Ministry of S&T and the S&T Promotion Law in 1967. There are more than ninties of S&T related laws to support Government's S&T policies recently. Even though Korean Government has enacted plenty of S&T related laws are required to be reformed. In this paper, firstly, we define what is S&T related law and the relationship between S&T related law system. Secondly, we investigate the problems of S&T related law with respect to several aspects such as historical, executing, international environment, and systematic aspects. Finally, we suggest the directions of S&T law reform. We conclude that S&T laws need to be merged and abolished in some areas such as various council system and S&T incentive system especially related to UR restriction.

  • This paper's objective is to draw a decision guideline to continue research and development (R&D) investments in biotech start-ups facing the "Valley of Death" syndrome - a long negative profit period during a financial crisis. The data include financial indices as Net income, Revenues, Total stockholders' equity, Cash & equivalents, and R&D expenses of 18 major biotech companies (nine in negative profit and nine positive, in FY2008) and 15 major pharmaceutical corporations as benchmarks both in FY2008 and in FY2016 derived from the US SEC Database, EDGAR. A first methodology dealing with real options analysis assumes Total stockholders' equity as a growth option. And a second methodology, Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis, is applied to test the probability relationship between the Total stockholders' equity and the R&D expenses in these three groups. This study confirms that Total stockholders' equity can play the role of a call option to support continuing R&D investments even in negative profits.

  • The establishment of function and role in government-funded research institute becomes a vital issue as fierce international technology-competition and enhanced industrial convergence makes science and technology important and influential more and in socio-economic level. This paper defines independent and dependent variables to identify factors which influence on research performance. As the independent variables, research funds, research personnel and research support staff are chosen. Dependent variables which are selected as proxy variables of research performance are royalties, papers and patents. Values from regression analysis were drawn by time-series analysis and cross-section analysis. As a result, the significance of correlation coefficients is sequential, research personnel, research support staff and research funds respectively. This finding is expected to give implication of future direction on government-funded research institute development.

  • IT was 90's that the government actually support the basic research in Korea. During the two decades, government accelerate the support to the basic research and therefore distinctive increase in the number of SCI papers. In 2008, Korea produced 35,569 SCI papers and it takes 2.42% of total SCI papers in the world. But, in spite of this quantitative growth, the qualitative level of Korean SCI papers is stagnant at 30s. To improve these phenomenon, this paper suggests recommendations about three aspects of research management-research support, evaluation, output diffusion. In the 21st century, the creative research output is more important than ever. Thus the government shout change its basic research supporting system from quantitative to qualitative aspect.
