This paper presents the possible effects and restrictions that may arise in the field of industrial construction due to compliance with relevant construction codes and regulations, as well as the ways they can be favorably handled in the design of industrial buildings. Designs should be based primarily on human design factors, while considering the human as the centre of the work environment. Design parameters should be described as a function of both the physical and psychosocial attributes of a person as well as the technical and economical aspects on the design of industrial construction. This paper is an examination of the connection that exists between design law (codes and regulations) and industrial construction. The relevant construction laws and regulations are described, including standards and codes of practice that designing and supervising engineers are obliged to observe. Possible solutions and consequences of development in the production, constructional, and ergonomic field of design are also discussed.

The discharge characteristics of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from seven wastewater treatment plants and two industry drains at Nakdong River basin were investigated. Four Sampling campaigns were conducted between May 2008 and November 2008, and tested for 17 VOCs. As results, eight VOCs were detected at some sampling sites, but their concentration levels were low; 0.19~3.41 ${\mu}g/L$, dependent on each sampling location and substance. However, proper management plans such as supervising and monitoring systems for VOCs are needed to control those pollutants since VOCs might affect human health as well as aquatic ecosystems with extremely low concentration levels.

Aiming at reducing deaths and injuries involving construction crane operations, OSHA has recently updated its 40-year-old crane safety standards with new rules addressing the use of cranes and derricks in construction. The goal of this change in rule is to deal with the leading causes of fatalities related to crane and derrick operations. Employers in the construction industry are mandated to ensure that employees in the work zone are trained to recognize hazards associated with the use of the equipment and any related duties that they are assigned to perform. However, those responsible at construction sites for the supervision and management of safe crane operations often lack the integrated knowledge of the standards, regulations and best practices for conducting or supervising daily, monthly, or quarterly inspection of cranes. As such, proper planning, management and implementation of crane operations, including inspections are just as paramount to reducing accidents on the construction site. It is important that engineers responsible for the management and planning of crane operations understand the latest OSHA crane and hoisting standards to ensure a safer work environment is maintained. Many on site engineers overseeing crane operations do not have adequate training, experience, and knowledge of the inspection requirements to assess safe crane operation and too often rely on the crane operator's judgement. This paper highlights recent research effort in defining significant changes in new crane and hoisting standards and provides basis for safety construction operations.

The last years have seen a rise of interest in using electroencephalography-based brain computer interfacing methodology for investigating non-medical questions, beyond the purpose of communication and control. One of these novel applications is to examine how signal quality is being processed neurally, which is of particular interest for industry, besides providing neuroscientific insights. As for most behavioral experiments in the neurosciences, the assessment of a given stimulus by a subject is required. Based on an EEG study on speech quality of phonemes, we will first discuss the information contained in the neural correlate of this judgement. Typically, this is done by analyzing the data along behavioral responses/labels. However, participants in such complex experiments often guess at the threshold of perception. This leads to labels that are only partly correct, and oftentimes random, which is a problematic scenario for using supervised learning. Therefore, we propose a novel supervised-unsupervised learning scheme, which aims to differentiate true labels from random ones in a data-driven way. We show that this approach provides a more crisp view of the brain states that experimenters are looking for, besides discovering additional brain states to which the classical analysis is blind.
The College of engineering's capstone design is student-team-centred learning based on project-based learning and is one of the most important courses for students aiming to be competent professional engineers capable of solving real industrial problems. Therefore, in order to resolve the capstone problems, various face-to-face contacts such as frequent industrial site visits, multiple meetings with diverse people including team members, and repeated contacts with course-supervising and team-advising professors are prerequisite processes. However, according to the transition to fully online education due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, capstone design courses for 2020 and 2021 were also conducted online. Based on the modified students' evaluations of educational quality (SEEQ) with 3 perspectives such as curriculum, teaching-staff and students themselves, this study compares their evaluations of offline capstone designs from 2013 to 2019 and online capstone designs in 2020 and 2021 in the context of COVID-19. In 3 perspectives, the difference in students' evaluation of the online capstone between the beginning and the end of the course shows a positive effect, which is better than the offline capstone. Also, in various dimensions for each perspective, the online capstone shows a better evaluation than the offline capstone. These findings suggest that the online capstone design curriculum can be expected to have educational effects as well as students' satisfaction with the online curriculum in the future.

In the case of the fault in stator windings of a high voltage motor. it facilitates certain destructive characteristics in insulations. This will result in a decreased reliability in power supplies and will prevent the generation of electricity, which will result in huge economic losses. This study simulates motor windings using normal windings and four faulty windings for an actual fault in stator winding of a high voltage motor. The partial discharge signals produced in each faulty winding were measured using an 80 PF epoxy/mica coupler sensor. In order to quantified signal waves its a way of feature extraction for each faulty signal, the signal wave of winding was quantified to measure the degree of skewness shape and kurtosis, which are both types of statistical parameters, using a discrete wavelet transformation method for each faulty type. Wave types present different types lot each faulty type, and the skewness and kurtosis also present different quantified values. The result of feature extraction was used as a preprocessing stage to identify a certain fault in stater windings. It is evident that the type of faulty signals can be classified from the test results using faulty signals that were randomly selected from the signal, which was not applied in the training after the training and learning period, by applying it to a back-propagation algorithm due to the supervising and learning method in a neural network in order to classify the faulty type. This becomes an important basis for studying diagnosis methods using the classification of faulty signals with a feature extraction algorithm, which can diagnose the fault of stator windings in the future.

It is widely known that labor costs are continuously and rapidly growing in terms of the raw cost of products in Korea. The increased labor costs are degrading the competitiveness of dairy industry sector as in the other major industrial fields. Furthermore, the number of dairy farms is constantly decreasing while that of dairy cattle is increasing. Thus, mechanized and/or automated stockbreeding management systems are crucially required to support professional stockbreeding management, as well as to enhance the productivity of the sector. Hence this paper develops an IIS (Integrated Information System) for dairy cattle stockbreeding management. IIS is composed of five application modules and associated utility programs. The five modules are individual stock management, milking management, feeding management, propagation management, and disease management. The utility programs are involved in stock farm accounting, and handy unloading of individual stock data into a personal data acquisition device. Compared with existing foreign products, the developed system takes advantages of various stock body measurement data such as body weight, body temperature, milk conductivity, milking amount, and the number of walking steps. All the measured data are transmitted into a programmable logic controller that monitors and controls measurement devices. The transmitted data are finally aggregated into an integrated database located in the main personal computer. The integrated data are analyzed and reformed in the five modules of IIS, then, used for providing farmers with various farm states and information through application module scenes. Hence, IIS keeps the each module work in a systematic and compatible manner, while supervising the whole stockbreeding management system.

The Korea Coast Guard evaluates the risk of major coastal activity places to prevent coastal accidents, and patrols and manages them based on that, but it is not responding properly to the continuously increasing number of coastal accidents. The reason for this is that, despite the gradual expansion of coastal activity places, there is a lack of manpower to manage and supervise them, resulting in blind spots in coastal accident safety management. Therefore, in order to solve this problem, it is necessary to prepare more efficient and effective measures that check and supplement the current coastal safety management system. Coastal accidents show different characteristics of accident causes and places due to differences in the activity characteristics of users according to time. As a result of analyzing coastal accident data (2017~2021), the frequency of daytime accidents is high in the case of sea rock, beach, and offshore, where family leisure activities are frequent. In the case of wharf, tidal flat and bridge, where accidents due to drinking, disorientation, and suicide mainly occur, the frequency of accidents at night is high. In addition, there were more accidents on weekends when the number of users increased compared to weekdays. This trend indicates that the user's temporal activity characteristics must be reflected in the risk assessment of coastal activity places. Therefore, in this study, based on the case of coastal accidents, the characteristics of accidents at coastal activity places according to time were identified, and the criteria were presented for risk evaluation by grading them. It is expected that it will be possible to lay the foundation for reducing coastal accidents by efficiently managing and supervising coastal activity places over time using the presented evaluation criteria.
