  • Bridge bearings are devices absorbing the displacements of the superstructure. Elastomeric bearings used generally as bridge bearings absorb the displacements of the superstructure using their rubber characteristics. Elastomeric bearings should make sure their shear fatigue performance not to impede the durability of bridge system. In this paper shear fatigue tests were performed and stiffness were measured through the shear fatigue tests. Tests results show the measured stiffness of elastomeric bearings have no specific tendency. This paper found that elastomeric bearings show bad shear performance or fail early if elastomeric bearings are manufactured with a doublefold elastomeric layer.

  • This study considered the effect of scour depth on the behaviour of pile foundation of bridge structure under seismic excitation. The numerical model was composed of the superstructure, pile foundation and soil. The superstructure and pile was modeled by beam elements and soil was by spring elements. The pile head and concrete footing was considered as hinge and rigid connected situation, respectively. A toro-gap element was used to model the expansion joint of superstructure. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was carried out on the constructed model. It was acknowledged that the steel pile become to yield after the scour depth reached about 2.0m.

  • Currently, the prefabricated bridge having the effects to reduce the term of works and the cost of construction is often studied and countries such as America have already developed members, the parts of it, and the technique of construction. In addition, they have supplied them to the fields. The study of prefabricated method of steel composite bridge, which has the precast deck - plate and main girder fixed by high tension bolt and can resist horizontal sheer, is being progressed. However, it is difficult to understand the characteristics of the prefabricated bridge's behavior when the superstructure of the prefabricated method is analyzed by applying to the analysis model of existing bridges. Therefore, this study has the purpose of understanding real structural behavior of prefabricated bridge through comparison and analysis between the structural analysis model reflecting the characteristics of the real prefabricated bridge's superstructure and real size experiment.

  • Dynamic response of steel plate girder bridges by KL-510 design truck in KHBDC considering the road surface roughness of bridges and bridge-vehicle interaction is investigated. Simply supported steel plate girder bridges with span length of 20m, 30m, and 40m from "Standard Highway Bridge Superstructure" published by the Korean Ministry of Construction are used for a bridge model, and ten sets of the road surface roughness of bridge deck are generated from power spectral density (PSD) function by assuming the roadway as "Average Road". A three dimensionally modeled 5-axle tractor-trailer with its gross weight, which is the same as that of KL-510 design truck, is used for dynamic analysis. For the finite element modeling of superstructure, beam element for the main girder, shell element for the concrete deck, and rigid link between main girder and concrete deck are used. Impact factor and DLA of steel plate girder bridges for different span are calculated by the proposed numerical analysis model and compared with those specified by several bridge codes.

  • An ultra-high strength prestressed prismatic beam of 100 MPa in compressive strength was developed by increasing the water-tightness of concrete by utilizing centrifugal molding processes without adding expensive admixtures. The centrifugal prismatic PSC beam developed as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel was constructed on a rahmen bridge in a small local river. In this study, the centrifugal prismatic beam was compared and analyzed based on the results of measurements made through static load tests and the results of numerical analysis of the target structure. The common load-carrying capacity and safety of the rahmen bridge were evaluated. The static·dynamic load tests and finite element analysis results of this bridge were similar, and it was confirmed that the behavior of the centrifugal prismatic beam was well simulated. All centrifugally formed square beams that make up the composite rahmen bridge were evaluated to secure sufficient load carrying capacity under the design live load, and structural reliability was proven by ensuring safety.

  • The track and bridge interaction should be considered for the safety check of railway bridge design as the longitudinal forces transmitted to rail and bridge are changed by longitudinal stiffness of bridge system. The longitudinal stiffness of bridge structures is determined by the magnitude of the ballast resistance, the expansion length of superstructure, and longitudinal stiffness of substructure including pier and foundations. In this study, the main factors affect on the longitudinal rail forces are discussed and the computational parametric analysis of rail forces considering rail-bridge interactions. And the required range of stiffness of sub-structures and span length for the assurance of safety of CWR(continuous welded rail) track is suggested.

  • In this papers, a finite element formulation is proposed for dynamic analysis of vehicle-bridge interaction problems under realistic loading conditions. Although the formulation presented in this paper is based on the consideration of only a single traversing vehicle, it can be extended to include several different bridge configurations. The traversing vehicle and the vibrating bridge superstructure are considered as an integrated system. Hence, although material and geometric nonlinearities are excluded, this introduces nonlinearity into the problem. Various vehicle models, including those with suspension systems, are considered. Traveling speed of the vehicle can be varied. The finite element discretization of the bridge structure permits the inclusion of arbitrary geometrical configurations, and surface and boundary conditions. To obtain accurate solutions, time integration of the equation of vehicle-bridge motion is carried out by using the Newmark method in connection with a predictor-corrector algorithm.

  • The type used mainly in present our country in the superstructure of the railway bridge including the high speed railway is classified by the box girder and the I-type girder, greatly. The box girder is mainly used by the high speed railway bridge, and the I-type girder is used mostly by general railway bridge style. In this study, according to current railway bridge design code, we execute design by the span length of each considered bridge form. Also we analyze the suitable girder height by the span length and calculate the construction costs. The comparative analysis of the structural efficiency is produced by the span length. From this study, it is exposed that the girder height by the span length is the biggest in box girder. Also it is evaluated that the construction costs of the box girder is higher than that of the I-type girder although there is a difference between more or less according to adopted construction method.

  • Earthquake damage civil engineering structures every year in the world and bridges are no exception. Bridge structures have proven to be vulnerable to earthquake, sustaining damage to substructure and foundation and being totally destroys as superstructures collapse from their supporting elements. The poor seismic performance of bridge structures is surprising in view of the substantial advance made in design and construction for vertical load. Recently, bridge spans have been pushed further than before, alignment has become increasingly complex and aesthetic requirement have been become more demanding. To reduce the seismic force and to improve the safety of the advanced bridges, the bridge bearings which are the substructures and foundations and their connections to the superstructure become more important and critical elements. Therefore, the functions about seismic devices to be using as bridge bearing are discussed.

  • The concrete track on bridge should be designed to effectively cope with the behavior of the bridge superstructure. For this purpose, in general, shear keys are designed to be installed at a certain intervals on the bridge deck, and the track slab is cast on these shear keys to transfer the load induced by the relative displacement between track and bridge. In this study, to apply the precast concrete slab track on bridge, a shear key structure and its effective installation method are presented. Also, the structural behavior of this shear key has been evaluated by the laboratory mock-up test.
