  • The research topic of super-RENS technology is shifting from the signal intensity (CNR; Carrier to Noise Ratio) to the signal uniformity (Jitter or bER). To achieve an uniform signal characteristics, it is important to reduce signal fluctuation in a super-RENS disc. In this study, we investigated the relation between signal fluctuation and low frequency noise (LFN), and analyzed LFN increase in recording and readout processes. It was found that signal fluctuation had a close relationship with the LFN. Also, it was found that the recorded mark shape such a bubble type and high readout power increased the LFN in recording and readout process of a super-RENS disc. So, using non-bubble type recording material and low super-resolution readout material, we markedly improved the LFN in a super-RENS disc.

  • In this paper, we propose a super-resolution algorithm using discrete wavelet transform. In general super-resolution algorithms for single-image, probability based operations have been used for searching high-frequency components. Consequently, the complexity of the algorithm causes the increase of processing time. In the proposed algorithm, we use discrete wavelet transform to find high-frequency sub-bands. We perform inverse discrete wavelet transform using input image and high-frequency sub-bands of the same resolution as the input image which are obtained by performing discrete wavelet transform without down-sampling and then we obtain image with high-resolution. In the proposed algorithm, we use the down-sampled version of the original image ($512{\times}512$) as a test image ($256{\times}256$) to compare the performance of algorithms. Through experimental results, we confirm the improved efficiency of the proposed algorithm comparing with conventional interpolation algorithms and also decreased processing time comparing the probability based operations.

  • A single-image super-resolution is a process of restoring a high-resolution image from a low-resolution image. Recently, the super-resolution using the deep neural network has shown good results. In this paper, we propose a neural network structure that improves speed and performance over conventional neural network based super-resolution methods. To do this, we analyze the conventional neural network based super-resolution methods and propose solutions. The proposed method reduce the 5 stages of the conventional method to 3 stages. Then we have studied the optimal width and depth by experimenting on the width and depth of the network. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method improves the disadvantages of the conventional methods. The proposed neural network structure showed superior performance and speed than the conventional method.

  • LiDAR is used in autonomous driving and various industrial fields to measure the size and distance of an object. In addition, the sensor also provides intensity images based on the amount of reflected light. This has a positive effect on sensor data processing by providing information on the shape of the object. LiDAR guarantees higher performance as the resolution increases but at an increased cost. These conditions also apply to LiDAR intensity images. Expensive equipment is essential to acquire high-resolution LiDAR intensity images. This study developed artificial intelligence to improve low-resolution LiDAR intensity images into high-resolution ones. Therefore, this study performed parameter analysis for the optimal super-resolution neural network model. The super-resolution algorithm was trained and verified using 2,500 LiDAR intensity images. As a result, the resolution of the intensity images were improved. These results can be applied to the autonomous driving field and help improve driving environment recognition and obstacle detection performance

  • Recently, as Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and self-driving system become influential in the ground transportation system, automotive radar systems have been actively studied among the various radar systems to implement the vehicle collision detection system and distance measurement system between vehicles. Most of the automotive radars are Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar type which can calculate distance and velocity of target by estimating the frequency difference between the transmitted signal and received signal. Therefore, accurate frequency estimation is very important in the FMCW radar system. For this reason, to improve the measurement accuracy of the FMCW radar, Reverse Directional FRI (RD-FRI) Super-Resolution technique which has high frequency estimation accuracy is applied to the FMCW radar system. The feasibility of the proposed technique is evaluated with simulation results and compared with FFT and conventional Super-Resolution techniques. The simulation results show that the proposed technique estimates the frequency with high accuracy and the distance with centimeter accuracy.

  • GOCI the world first Ocean Color Imager in Geostationary Orbit, which could obtain total 8 images of the same region a day, however, its spatial resolution(500m) is not enough to use for the accurate land application, Super Resolution(SR), reconstructing the high resolution(HR) image from multiple low resolution(LR) images introduced by computer vision field. could be applied to the time-series remotely sensed images such as GOCI data, and the higher resolution image could be reconstructed from multiple images by the SR, and also the cloud masked area of images could be recovered. As the precedent study for developing the efficient SR method for GOCI images, on this research, it reproduced the simulated data under the acquisition process of the remote sensed data, and then the simulated images arc applied to the proposed algorithm. From the proposed algorithm result of the simulated data, it turned out that low resolution(LR) images could be registered in sub-pixel accuracy, and the reconstructed HR image including RMSE, PSNR, SSIM Index value compared with original HR image were 0.5763, 52.9183 db, 0.9486, could be obtained.

  • At present, deep convolutional neural networks have made a very important contribution in single-image super-resolution. Through the learning of the neural networks, the features of input images are transformed and combined to establish a nonlinear mapping of low-resolution images to high-resolution images. Some previous methods are difficult to train and take up a lot of memory. In this paper, we proposed a simple and compact deep recursive residual network learning the features for single image super resolution. Global residual learning and local residual learning are used to reduce the problems of training deep neural networks. And the recursive structure controls the number of parameters to save memory. Experimental results show that the proposed method improved image qualities that occur in previous methods.

  • Recently, a convolutional neural network (CNN) models at single image super-resolution have been very successful. Residual learning improves training stability and network performance in CNN. In this paper, we compare four convolutional neural network models for super-resolution (SR) to learn nonlinear mapping from low-resolution (LR) input image to high-resolution (HR) target image. Four models include general CNN model, global residual learning CNN model, local residual learning CNN model, and the CNN model with global and local residual learning. Experiment results show that the results are greatly affected by how skip connections are connected at the basic CNN network, and network trained with only global residual learning generates highest performance among four models at objective and subjective evaluations.

  • Super-resolution can improve the clarity of low-resolution (LR) images, which can increase the accuracy of high-level compute vision tasks. Portable devices have low computing power and storage performance. Large-scale neural network super-resolution methods are not suitable for portable devices. In order to save the computational cost and the number of parameters, Lightweight image processing method can improve the processing speed of portable devices. Therefore, we propose the Enhanced Information Multiple Distillation Network (EIMDN) to adapt lower delay and cost. The EIMDN takes feedback mechanism as the framework and obtains low level features through high level features. Further, we replace the feature extraction convolution operation in Information Multiple Distillation Block (IMDB), with Ghost module, and propose the Enhanced Information Multiple Distillation Block (EIMDB) to reduce the amount of calculation and the number of parameters. Finally, coordinate attention (CA) is used at the end of IMDB and EIMDB to enhance the important information extraction from Spaces and channels. Experimental results show that our proposed can achieve convergence faster with fewer parameters and computation, compared with other lightweight super-resolution methods. Under the condition of higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and higher structural similarity (SSIM), the performance of network reconstruction image texture and target contour is significantly improved.

  • The Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) is the instrument of Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) to study the magnetic field and oscillation at the solar surface. The HMI image is not enough to analyze very small magnetic features on solar surface since it has a spatial resolution of one arcsec. Super resolution is a technique that enhances the resolution of a low resolution image. In this study, we use a method for enhancing the solar image resolution using a Deep-learning model which generates a high resolution HMI image from a low resolution HMI image (4 by 4 binning). Deep learning networks try to find the hidden equation between low resolution image and high resolution image from given input and the corresponding output image. In this study, we trained a model based on a very deep residual channel attention networks (RCAN) with HMI images in 2014 and test it with HMI images in 2015. We find that the model achieves high quality results in view of both visual and measures: 31.40 peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR), Correlation Coefficient (0.96), Root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.004. This result is much better than the conventional bi-cubic interpolation. We will apply this model to full-resolution SDO/HMI and GST magnetograms.
