This paper investigates the changes of diurnal temperature range (DTR) by season and region in South Korea using daily maximum temperature and daily minimum temperature from 1954 to 2009. It also attempts to find what causes these changes. The daily minimum temperature distinctively increased during the latter half of the research period (1988~2009) than the first half of the year (1954~1987) leading decreases in DTR, while the rise in daily maximum temperature was not distinct during the research period. The DTR shows slightly increasing trend in spring. but decreasing trend in fall. The DTR is decreasing in urban region while it is increasing in rural area. The degree of the DTR decrease is bigger in large urban region than in medium-small urban region. The DTR in urban region is affected by the amount of clouds in spring and tile duration of sunshine in fall. The DTR in rural area is affected by the amount of clouds in spring and the number of days with precipitation in fall.

The characteristics of local climate in the vicinity of Duckyang Bay have been investigated with the analysis of the surface observation data of Gohug District and the aerological data of Kwangju. In principal features of local climate, the annual range in temperature appeared identical with the mean value(24~$25^{\circ}C$) of the south coastal area, and evaporation from April to September was likely less than precipitation. The average speed of surface wind in Summer seemed higher than in other seasons on account of wea breeze. Relative humidity was 74%, annual average. In the mean cloud cover Summer(6.4) showed greater deal of amount than Winter(4.2). Duration of sunshine was the longest in May(268.4hrs), while the shortest in February(188.4hrs). The amount of the precipitable water was the greatest in July, whereas the least in January, and in Summer the greatest, in Autumn the second greatest, and in Spring the third greatest, and in Winter the least in consideration of seasonal orders. The Summer deviation was most remarkable around all sides. The direction of vector wind appeared the most changeable on the earth surface. At an altitude of 300mb all the winds blew west around all months. Moreover, water vapor transport was measured to be the greatest in Summer; while the least in Winter. So was the deviation of water vapor transport. And lastly frequency of occurrence of days in which a little cloud appeared(less than 5/10) was high except for Summer, when northerly winds blew; while frequency of occurrence of day plenty of clouds floated was outstandingly high at the time of strong southerly winds.
This study aimed to assess the causality of different climate variables on the production of whole crop maize (Zea mays L.; WCM) in the central inland region of the Korea. Furthermore, the effect of these climate variables was also determined by looking at direct and indirect pathways during the stages before and after silking. The WCM metadata (n = 640) were collected from the Rural Development Administration's reports of new variety adaptability from 1985-2011 (27 years). The climate data was collected based on year and location from the Korean Meteorology Administration's weather information system. Causality, in this study, was defined by various cause-and-effect relationships between climatic factors, such as temperature, rainfall amount, sunshine duration, wind speed and relative humidity in the seeding to silking stage and the silking to harvesting stage. All climate variables except wind speed were different before and after the silking stage, which indicates the silking occurred during the period when the Korean season changed from spring to summer. Therefore, the structure of causality was constructed by taking account of the climate variables that were divided by the silking stage. In particular, the indirect effect of rainfall through the appropriate temperature range was different before and after the silking stage. The damage caused by heat-humidity was having effect before the silking stage while the damage caused by night-heat was not affecting WCM production. There was a large variation in soil surface temperature and rainfall before and after the silking stage. Over 350 mm of rainfall affected dry matter yield (DMY) when soil surface temperatures were less than 22℃ before the silking stage. Over 900 mm of rainfall also affected DMY when soil surface temperatures were over 27℃ after the silking stage. For the longitudinal effects of soil surface temperature and rainfall amount, less than 22℃ soil surface temperature and over 300 mm of rainfall before the silking stage affected yield through over 26℃ soil surface temperature and less than 900 mm rainfall after the silking stage, respectively.
This study was conducted to provide data necessary for clearing up the way to be able to improve covering and management method of covering material in commercial plastic greenhouse. The photosynthetic photon flux(PPF) in representative 4 different commercial tomato greenhouses was measured and analyzed. The variation trend of daily integral PPF was in agreement with that of the duration of sunshine. Each of daily integral PPF for 4 different experimental greenhouses was quite dissimilar, and was less than the amount of PPF necessary to grow tomato. October to November of beginning of winter was a good season to replace covering material in order to secure more PPF during insufficient winter season in greenhouse. The main inside factors to interrupt PPF incidence were thermal screen, inside covering material, condensation receiver in greenhouse. The single wide span greenhouse covered with PO film was superior to the other experimental greenhouses in the aspect of PPF transmittance.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existing methods for calculating or estimating the consumptive use (Evaportranspiration) of any agricutural development project area. In determing the consumptive use water in the project area, there will require the best way for estimating irrigation requirement. Many methods for computing the evaportranspiration have been used, each of them with its merits and demerits at home and abroad. Some of these methods are listed as follows: 1.The Penman's formula 2.The B1aney-Criddle method 3.The Munson P.E. Index method 4.The Atmometer method 5.The Texas Water Rights Commission (TWRC) method 6.The Jensen-Haise method 7.The Christiasen method Therefore, the authors will introduce the more widely used method for calculating Consumptive Use by G.H. Hargreaves. The formula is expressed in the form Ep= K·d·T (1.0-0.01·Hn) Hn=1.0+0.4H+0.005H2. This method was adopted for the first time to determine the Irrigation requirements of Ogseo Comprehensive Agricultual Development project (Benefited area:100,500ha) in Korea. This method is presented in somewhat greater detail than the others. Formula is given for the computation of evaportranspiration (with various levels of data availability) Sampel computation of irrigation requirements for Ogseo irrigation project is included. The results and applied materials are summarized as follows. 1. In calculating the Hargreaves formula, the mean temperature relative, humidity, length of day, and percentage of sunshine from three stations of Iri, Jeonju, and Gunsan were used. 2. Monthly evaporation values were calculated by using the formula. 3. Meteological data from the three stations records for the ten years (1963∼1972) were used. 4. The annual irrigation requirements is 1,186mm per hectare, but the case to consider effective rainfall amount takes the annual irrigation demand being 700mm per hectare.
This study was carried out to determine marine environments and phytoplankton community in Deukryang Bay during the period of summer in 1987-2010. Water temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen were shown in much yearly fluctuations. In August, water temperatures in surface and on bottom were the highest, compared with average surface (24.54$^{\circ}C$) and bottom (22.90$^{\circ}C$) water temperature for 18 years in Deukryang Bay. The main reason is assumed to longer duration of sunshine during the period of August. Although the amount of the rainfall in August was the highest, significant impact of marine environment did not show. Most of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate in Deukryang were lower concentration during summer and N:P ratio also showed below 18 in Redfield. In particular, extreme increasing of N:P ratio in August was occurred by intensive precipitation. Distribution of phytoplankton community was a consistent occurrence for 18 years. The genus of Chaetoceros, Cosinodisucs and Skeletonema were regarded as the represent diatom, whereas the highest occurrence of genus among dinofagellates was Ceratium. It is thought that the relationship between phytoplankton and nutrient has a strong positive signal, although nutrients persist a little concentration and much fluctuations in marine environments were observed. High availability in phytoplankton is contributed to consistently provide the food organism of shellfish. Consequently, recent decreasing production of shellfish and seed are probably associated with higher temperature during the period of summer. However, higher temperature is also occurred ago and after 2000. On the basis of geography, Deukryang Bay had a small mouth and long channel, which is attributed to decreasing genetic diversity. It is assumed that higher temperature and lower genetic diversity have a extreme impact of larvae and shellfish for reproduction in Deukryang. It is necessary to persistently monitor based on water quality and phytoplankton community.
This study was carried out to ascertain the flowering and boiling habits in conditions of vinyl mulched cultivation. The effects of vinyl mulching cultivation in cotton was early flowering. The flowering period was no more than 26 days and shedding of flower bud was lower. The total boll setting rate to flower number was about 38%. The number of flowering plants was rapidly increased until Aug. 8, then later was decreased, the period of the highest flowering occured was for 5 days from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10. Boll setting was increased that the flowers opened before July 30, then the later flowers was tended to decrease belling in spite of the increased flowering. However flower bud shedding had a tendency to decrease after the highest boiling period. The effect of weather, max. temperature and hours of sunshine on flowering days were highly positive significant correlation. Minimum temperatures, high air humidity and amount of rainfall had a negative significant correlation. The demanded days to flowering on the same internode in each fruiting branches was taken average 1.2 days, these days among the fruiting branches of the same internode was 3.6 days.

The water shortage in mega cities in Asia, which face a rapid growth in urban population, is an outstanding problem. It is important, therefore, to accurately estimate the water balance in each city in order to use the limited water resources effectively. In this study, we estimated the potential water resources in し sixteen mega cities in Asia. The target cities were Delhi and Calcutta, India; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Yangon, Myanmar; Bangkok, Thailand; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Singapore; Jakarta, Indonesia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Beijing and Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China; Seoul, the People's Republic of Korea; Manila, the Philippines, and Sapporo and Tokyo, Japan. The potential water resources were estimated by subtracting the actual evaporation from the amount of rainfall. The actual evaporation was estimated using the potential evaporation obtained by Hamon's equation which requires the air temperature and the possible hours of sunshine. When the results of Hamon's and Penman's evaporation equations were compared, a considerable error appeared in the low latitude region. The estimation using Hamon's equation was corrected with the linear regression line of Hamon's and Penman's equations. A classification of the land cover was carried out based on satellite photographs of the target cities, and the volume of surface runoff for each city was obtained using the runoff ratios which depended on the land cover. As a result, the potential water resources in the above mega cities in Asia were found to be greater than the world average. However, the actual water resources which are available for one person to use are probably very limited.
This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of meteorological elements and yearly variations of productivity in hot pepper. In addition, correlation coefficients among the yields and yield components were used to find out the relationships between meteorological elements and productivity. Yearly variation of the mean air temperature in May and July showed large with coefficients of variation(C.V.) of 25.0,8.9%, respectively, but the variation of the duration of sunshine in May were relative small. Yield and plant height was greatly with C.V. of 7.14,11.6%, respectively, diameter of fruit showed more or less C.V. of 2.28% and length of fruit showed less variation. Correlation coefficients between maximum temperature in period of cultivation from May and yield are positively significant at the level of 1 %. Correlation Coefficients between precipitation in period of cultivation from May to August and yield are negative significant at the level of 5 and 1 %, respectively. Correlation coefficients amount the plant height, length of fruit, diameter of fruit per plant, and seed yield were positively significant at the level of 1 %, respectively.

The number of hospital admissions for pneumonia tends to increase annually and even more, pneumonia, the fifth leading causes of death among elder adults, is one of top diseases in terms of hospitalization rate. Although mainly bacteria and viruses cause pneumonia, the weather is also related to the occurrence of pneumonia. The candidate weather variables are humidity, amount of sunshine, diurnal temperature range, daily mean temperatures and density of particles. Due to the delayed occurrence of pneumonia, lagged weather variables are also considered. Additionally, year effects, holiday effects and seasonal effects are considered. We select the related variables that influence the occurrence of pneumonia using penalized generalized linear models.
