  • This experiment was carried out to evaluate the flooding injury and yield compensating ability by uppernode tillers formed during the recovery periods. Rice plants grown in experimental field transplanted on 1st, June were completely flooded for 3 days by the artificial flooding device in each different growth stage such as middle tillering stage (20 days after transplanting), young panicle formation stage, meiotic stage and heading stage. And the farmer's rice fields which had various transplanting dates were completely flooded for 3 days by typhoon 'Thelma' from 16th to 18th, July, 1987. Percent of dead leaves and yield reduction of rice in experimental field flooded at the different growth stages were resulted that the earlier growth stages were the lower damage because of the low temperature in the earlier growth stage, but it showed opposite tendency in farmer's rice field flooded in high temperature season by typhoon 'Thelma'. Rice yield compensating ability attained to 66% of check plot yield was greatly depend on uppernode panicles induced after damage of original young panicles. Uppernode panicle produced 236 kg per 10a in polished rice by securing 690$^{\circ}C$ of accumulated mean temperature and 210 hours of sunshine during the ripening periods when headed up to 15th of September.

  • Recently the roof gardening has become very popular and even on the apartment-veranda and on the roofs in high buildings many kinds of vegetables and berries are cultivated. And the demand of the nutritional supplement for the effective plant growth is also increasing. The general urban conditions are to be adapted for plant growth. A different hygroscopic and temperature-conditions after regions, sunshine and wind have strong influences on the plant growth and usually it is not optimal enough. It is because why a nutritional condition in soil for plant growth so important and essential. The usual compound-soil or -fertilizer cannot offer enough quantities of nutrients for plant growth and additional soil conditioner becomes more necessary. There are many kinds of soil conditioners like hydrogel in the market and we studied on Geohumus, Montigel and Geko, which are widely used in Europe and other countries. Water absorption and microbial immobilization with effective microorganisms were tested and compared. The EM solution was identified as bacteria, fungi and azotobacter etc. and they were immobilized at the soil conditioners at first. And the cultivated and immobilized at the soil conditioners EM-solution was added to the plant soil. 1 g of the soil conditioners absorbed ca. 20 g of water. The plant grew 10 cm more, got 3 times more branches and 2 times more fruits in the soil with soil conditioners immobilized with microorganisms. With water addition the plant with both conditions in the soil could stay fresh in comparison to without soil conditioners.

  • In this paper, the climate change in Haiyan County in recent decades was analyzed in detail with the methods of moving average, Mann-Kendall non-parametric mutation test and wavelet analysis. According to the variation trend of meteorological factors such as temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, pan evaporation and precipitation in recent decades, the climate of Haiyan County has a tendency of drought, which is becoming more and more serious. From the results of the analysis, the sunshine hours and the air temperature in Haiyan County have an obvious upward trend. The average surface temperature has increased by 2.75 ℃ from 1976, and its largest increase occurred in the late 1970s and 1980s. At this stage, the average surface temperature increased by 1.37 ℃. The relative humidity has a decreasing trend that has decreased by 2.75%. From 1976 to the present, there are two quasi-3a cycles and one quasi-6a cycle. The precipitation and evaporation showed the opposite change trend, in which the trend of precipitation fluctuated upward, while the trend of evaporation showed a fluctuating downward tendency, which led to the serious loss of water in the feeding area. The wind direction in Haiyan County are mainly from west to east, and its wind speed has a trend of slight increase.

  • Recently a passive $NO_2$ samplers have been frequently used for the measurement of $NO_2$ concentration in the atmosphere because of its simplicity and high accuracy. But these samplers have a defect that the amount of $NO_2$ adsorbed is increased by wind. In this study, the inlet of sampler was covered with a draft shield made by 325 mesh stainless sieve to eliminate the effect. But it was expected that $NO_2$ diffusion was interrupted by the draft shield. In order to conform this phenomenon, samplers with and without draft shield were exposed to a box filled with 1-1.1ppm $NO_2$. The result indicated that draft shield nearly did not disturb $NO_2$ diffusion. To protect samplers from dust, sunshine, precipitation and vertical wind effects, these samplers were placed into a shelter during the field test. The data obtained in this study was compared with the data from the ambient air monitoring network. The coefficient of correlation(r) between the two data was 0.9995 for the test period of up to 35days. The results of this study indicate that the type of $NO_2$ samplers with draft shield in shelter used in this study can be used for measuring $NO_2$ concentrations in the ambient air relatively for a long period over 30 days.

  • As a film maker, Lee Chang Dong stands out from most Korean film makers who work within the trappings of genre films. To be sure, Lee has also used the trappings of genre films, such as noire and melodrama, but primarily as a tool to communicate with film audience. In his most recent film "Poetry", Lee seems to have even stripped even the minimal trappings of genre film. Lee commands the audience to self-reflect and work towards their own conclusions by denying them the illusory identification on screen. In this way, Lee's works are counter cinema. Lee achieves a distancing effect using such filmic apparatuses as hand-held camera, fantasy, mise en abyme, and returned gaze. Through these filmic apparatuses, Lee exposes the re-presentation of text and compels his audience to see the historical and political contexts of the text. In this study, I make the case that Lee Chang Dong's film making is an act of repetition compulsion that cultivates ethical reflection, through symbolization of the invisible realities.

  • In order to support increased consumer awareness regarding energy consumption, we present new ways of monitoring and predicting with energy in electric appliances. The proposed system is a design of a common electrical power outlet called smart plug that measures the amount of current passing through current sensor at 0.5 second. To acquire data for training and testing the proposed neural network, weather parameters used include average temperature of day, min and max temperature, humidity, and sunshine hour as input data, and power consumption as target data from smart plug. Using the experimental data for training, the neural network model based on Back-Propagation algorithm was developed. Multi layer perception network was used for nonlinear mapping between the input and the output data. It was observed that the proposed neural network model can predict the power consumption quite well with correlation coefficient was 0.9965, and prediction mean square error was 0.02033.

  • To investigate the effects of cultivation on the aroma characteristics of essential oil of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.), experimental peppermints were cultivated with different treatments of field mulching, soil fertilization, and harvesting time. Aroma characteristics of the different mint oils were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and GC/mass spectrometry (MS)/infrared spectroscopy (IR). Growth of peppermint with vinyl muching was faster in the early stage of cultivation, but became almost same in the harvest date. The higher amounts of rainfall and sunshine hour resulted in the better growth of stem and leaf of the peppermint. Contents of menthone in the essential oils from the peppermint cultivated in 1990 increased as harvest date delayed from late June 25 to late July 26 the same period. In 1991 menthone decreased from June 25 to August 5, but l-menthol increased from June 25 to august 5. The results indicated that the sunshing hour affected biosynthesis of the components. Contents of menthofuran increased significantly from early June to late July. The optimum cutting date resulting best oil production was late July 7 in 1991.

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of the changes in residents' perception of neighborhood and sense of neighborhood according to the residential structural changes caused by city renewal projects such as old urban large redevelopment. Research findings benefits of the residential environment changes after the development are environment improvement, convenient traffic, leisure activity increase, and green area increase, whereas their drawbacks are encroachment of sunshine and view, However, with the regard to the relationship with neighbors, paired-sample t-test results showed there were no statistically significant differences between before and after the development. It appeared to be that the community residential complex development did not influence the relationship with neighbors. ANOVA was used to examine the differences in the neighborhood perception among age categories. The results showed that there were no differences between age groups but when there were changes in their life cycle, residents showed differences in their neighborhood perception among age groups. The neighborhood perception was measured on 5-point Likert Scale in four factors of intimacy, participation, reliability, and group identity. The perception decreased somewhat after the development and the group identity, especially, showed a significant difference (p<.001). This was considered to be caused by a sense of incongruity due to the influx of different social-economic groups.
