  • The purpose of this study was to analyze potential effects of Koreans' ultraviolet risk awareness and appearance management on their UV protective behaviors in daily life and outdoor activities, and was to investigate in their awareness of UV-protective clothing and their purchase attitudes toward anti-UV protective clothing. To meet the above goals, we have surveyed a total of 262 participants(male and female) residing in Chungcheong province. Findings were as following: As a part of ultraviolet-protective behaviors, it was found that the respondents often relied on applying sun-block cream or shady place before exposition to sunlight. Particularly, it was notable that 30's or older group was more proactive in UV protective behaviors than younger group below 30 years old. There were significant correlations among the respondents' UV protective behaviors, their awareness of anti-UV clothing and their purchase attitudes to anti-UV clothing. Also, there were also significant correlations among their UV-protective means for outdoor activities. That is, more favorable awareness about anti-UV clothing they have is associated with their more active attitudes to purchasing anti-UV clothing and taking anti-sunlight behaviors. It was found that the number of respondents who used cosmetics for outdoor activities was more than that of respondents who used clothing to protect their body from ultraviolet ray. Hence, it will be necessary for follow-up studies to focus on the development and promotion of anti-UV clothing.

  • Purpose: Social influence has a decisive role in shaping a person's cognition and behavior. Chinese face consciousness, including moral component, is an important part of Chinese traditional culture, which influences people to implement moral behavior. With both eye-tracking technology and traditional questionnaire, this research aims to explore people's moral psychology and the psychological processing mechanisms of Chinese face consciousness, as well as the impact of Chinese face consciousness on the preference for the ecological product. Method and Data: 75 college and MBA students' eye movement data were collected when they read different kinds of moral materials, as well as data from the subsequent questionnaires. To test the hypothesis, ANOVA analysis and Heat Map analysis were performed. Besides, the PROCESS of bootstrap was used to test mediation effect. Findings: The results reveal that: 1. Compared to the moral-situation reading, when subjects read immoral situations, they need more processing time due to the moral dissonance and cognitive load. 2. Compared to the control condition, when threatened moral self is primed, subjects prefer to choose ecological product. 3. Protective face orientation is the mediator between threatened moral self and preference to ecological product. Key Contributions: First, this study broadens the use of eye-tracking technology in marketing and demonstrates a better understanding of the relationship between morality and consumer behavior in a more scientific way. Second, this study not only distinguishes the meanings between "protective face orientation" and "acquisitive face orientation", but also innovatively validates that when moral self is threatened, consumers tend to choose ecological product as moral compensation in order to protect their face. It can shed light on the promotion of ecological product in practical applications.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between unhealthy eating behavior and depression in adolescents, with confounding variables adjusted. Methods: This study is a secondary analysis of the data collected from the 2013 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBWS). The analysis included 72,435 participants (36,655 male and 35,780 female). The data were analyzed by $x^2$ test, t-test, and logistic regression analysis using SPSS Version 21 by complex samples analysis. Results: Compared with male adolescents with healthy eating behavior, those who with unhealthy eating behavior were more likely to suffer depression with other factors controlled (OR=1.37, 1.07~1.75). On the other hand, female adolescents with unhealthy eating behavior were less likely to feel depressed compared with female adolescents with unhealthy eating behavior and with other factors controlled (OR=0.98, 0.64~1.50). However, it was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that healthy eating behavior may be a protective factor against depression in male adolescents, but not in female adolescents. Furthermore, our results suggest that the longitudinal associations between mental health and healthy eating behavior and other lifestyle factors are complex.

  • The present study investigated regional and sex differences in knowledge, perception, cognition and behavior of fine-dust protective masks for periods of high concentration of fine dust in Korea. A total of 2,012 adults from seven provinces responded to the questionnaire. The results (all p<.05) showed that 78% of respondents considered pollution from China to be the greatest contributor of fine dust. Seoul and Gyeonggi residents more frequently checked fine dust forecasts than other provinces and consulted their smartphone applications to do so more than other residents. Jeju, Gwangwon, and Jeonla residents had less knowledge of KF 80, 94, and 99 masks than residents of other provinces. Gwangwon and Jeju residents had less trust in the effectiveness of protective masks than other residents. Females perceived themselves as unhealthier respiratory, more frequently checked the concentration of fine dust, trusted more the effectiveness of masks, and more frequently wore masks, compared to male respondents. Those who self-identified their respiratory function as poor, more frequently checked fine dust forecasting, and had greater knowledge of masks, which resulted in greater trust in the protective function of masks, and finally had higher wear frequency of masks for days with high concentrations of fine dust.

  • Corrosion behavior of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy in molten salts of LiCl and LiCl-$Li_2O was investigated in the tempera-ture range of $650~850^{\circ}C$. In the molten salt of LiCl, and internal oxidation of Fe occurred in the KSA(Kaeri Superalloy)-1 alloy without containing Cr, while a dense protective oxide scale of $LiCrO_2$ was formed in the KSA-4, Incoloy 800H and KSA-5 alloys. In the mixed molten salt of LiCl-$Li_2O$, internal oxidation of Fe and Cr took place in the KSA-1 and KSA-4 alloys, respectively. Non-protective porous oxide scales consisting of $LiCrO_2$ and Ni were formed in the Incoloy 800H and KSA-5. The corrosion rate of the alloys increased with the increase in Cr content and the corrosion rate followed the parabolic law for the alloy containing Cr content less than 8%, and the linear law for the alloy containing Cr content more than 8%. Such a corrosion behavior of the alloy in the mixed molten salt of LiCl-$Li_2O$ was interpreted in terms of the basic fluxing mechanism of protective oxide scale of $Cr_2O_3$.

  • We investigated the effect of Selaginella tamariscina extract on the learning and memory impairments in scopolamine-induced (5 mg/kg, i.p.) dementia rats. Rats treated with oral tacrin (20 mg/kg, p.o.) as positive control group and S. tamariscina extract 100, 200mg/kg, p. o. (SME 100, SME 200) as experimental group had significantly reduced scopolamine-induced memory deficits in the passive avoidance test. The acetylcholine content were paralleled the results of the behavior experiment. The acetylcholine contents of the experimental groups (SME 200 group) was higher than that of control group. We also evaluated expression of VAchT, vesicular acetylcholine transporter. SME was significantly increased VAchT expression on hippocampus of scopolamine-induced dementia rats. We suggest that S. tamariscina might exert a significantly neuro-protective effect on cognitive impairment.

  • Objective : This study was designed to assess the protective effects of Hwangryeonhaedoktang on the animal model of depression, induced by chronic mild stress(CMS). Method : Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used for this experiment. The subjects were divided into 3 groups ( 1. CMS-drug: Hwangryeonhaedoktang administered during CMS treatment, 2. CMS-vehicle: water administered, 3. normal ). After 4 weeks of CMS treatment, they were executed forced swimming test(FST), open field test and c-Fos in paraventricular nucleus(PVN) were measured. Result : 1. In FST, immobility behavior decreased significantly in CMS-drug group. 2. There was no difference in the open field test between 3 groups 3. c-Fos expressed cell bodies in PVN were significantly less in CMS-drug than in CMS-vehicle group. Conclusion : These results suggest that Hwangryeonhaedoktang may have protective antidepressant effects in CMS model rats. And these effects could be explained by the elevated stress-copying behaviors which are related with PVN of hypothalamus.

  • Medium carbon steel was aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al or Al-1 at% Si baths. After hot-dipping in these baths, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer rich in $Al_5Fe_2$ formed on the surface. A small amount of FeAl and $Al_3Fe$ was incorporated in the alloy layer. Silicon from the Al-1 at% Si bath was uniformly distributed throughout the entire coating. The hot dipping increased the microhardness of the steel by about 8 times. Heating at $700-1000^{\circ}C$, however, decreased the microhardness through interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate. The oxidation at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ in air formed a thin protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, which provided good oxidation resistance. Silicon was oxidized to amorphous silica, exhibiting a glassy oxide surface.

  • Two Fe-Cr steels of T22 steel and STS430 steel were corroded at 650 and 750℃ for 100hr in sewage sludge-(0.3% SO2-6% O2-10% H2O-balance CO2) mixed gas environment. T22 steel corroded faster than STS430, indicating that the Cr content significantly influence the corrosion rates. T22 formed thick and non-protective Fe2O3 as the major oxide and Fe3O4 as the minor one. With an increase in corrosion temperature, their corrosion rates increased, being accompanied with formation of pores and cracks in the thickened oxide scales that were non-adherent. STS430 steel formed Fe2O3, Fe3O4 as the outer scale and (Fe, Cr)-O as the inner layer by which its corrosion rate is greatly reduced. Both the T22 and STS430 steel samples formed multi-layered scales by outward diffusion of Fe ions and inward diffusion of oxygen and sulfur ions at high-temperature more than 650℃.
