Measuring Students' Performances and Evaluating the Internship Program for Students Majoring in Food and Nutrition (현장실습 프로그램에 참여한 식품영양학 대학생의 수행도 및 프로그램 평가)

  • The purposes of this study were to evaluate students' performance by student self-evaluation and by educators in the field respectively after an internship program, to analyze the gap between the two groups, to identify students, satisfaction and behavior intention and to suggest the direction of an internship program in the Food and Nutrition Department. The results of the survey of 133 students and 129 educators as follows: a majority of the program periods was two weeks and most students experienced an internship program once. Both students and educators evaluated highly in 'I (Students) worked faithfully as a trainee.', 'I (Students) observed the rules and cooperated with other colleagues.', 'I (Students) behaved with clear and polite words.'. Educators estimated higher than students in all items, especially in 'I (Students) prepared and planned needs for internship in advance.' (p<0.00l), 'I (Students) got on close terms with the staff and enjoyed their confidence.' (p<0.001). For details of the internship program, students were satisfied with 'professors' roles' (3.95), 'educator's abilities' (3.85), 'treatment of students' (3.84) but dissatisfied with 'pay to students' (1.94). Students perceived that an internship program was helpful to understand their major (4.37) and to decide upon their job (4.17). They had an intention to participate in another internship program (4.63) and to recommend to their juniors to participate in a program (4.73). Students had a diversity of opinions for program periods and most wanted to participate two times in summer or winter vacation of junior. Therefore an internship program needs curriculum in the food and nutrition department and the continuous and active cooperation between university and institutions would lead to an effective and efficient internship program.

Etiologic and Immunologic Characteristics of Thoroughbred Horses with Bacterial Infectious Upper Respiratory Disease at the Seoul Race Park

  • Equine respiratory disease is a common cause of poor performance and training interruptions. The higher incidence rate of infectious upper respiratory disease (IURD) in thoroughbred racehorses at the Seoul Race Park coincided with the frequent stabling season, shorter stabling periods, and younger ages in this study. Incidence rates were also correlated with significantly lower proportions of cells expressing MHC class II-, CD2 antigen-, $CD4^+$- or $CD8^+$-T lymphocyte-, and B lymphocyte in IURD patients compared with healthy control groups in the summer and fall and in 2-and-3-year-old groups. The data suggested that movement and new environments may have resulted in immunosuppression and inappropriate responses to respiratory pathogens in IURD patients. The IURD incidence decreased with age, perhaps by the acquisition of immunity, and study results suggested that immunologic protection was associated with IURD, particularly in young thoroughbred racehorses. Streptococci isolates were identified in 11 of 72 IURD horses, and 3 of these isolates were identified as Streptococcus. equi subsp. equi. S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus was isolated from 2 of 23 IURD horses in the spring (8.7%), 5 of 23 in the summer (21.7%), and 1 of 6 in winter (16.7%). S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus (5%) was also identified in 3 of 61 isolates from clinically normal horses. Racetracks should implement anti-IURD protective measures by assessing the capacity of equine immunologic protection at the Park and by limiting the introduction of specific respiratory pathogens (such as S. equi subsp. equi) by preventing the access of infected but subclinical horses with a specified respiratory pathogen-free certification system prior to Park entry.

The Evaluation of a Nutrition Education Camp Program for Overweight and Underweight Adolescents (저체중 또는 과체중 청소년에서 캠프 프로그램을 이용한 영양 교육효과에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nutrition education program developed for nutritionally imbalanced adolescents. A summer nutrition camp was held for 23 overweight and 16 underweight subjects. Its effectiveness with regard to was evaluated at the end of the camp and 6 months later. Nutrition knowledge, nutritional attitude, food behavior, nutrient intake, exercise habit and ideal body figures desired by the subjects. The results showed significantly higher nutrition knowledge scores at the end of the camp as compared to those obtained prior to the camp program, and these scores were maintained for at least six months. Nutrition attitude scores also improved after the education program, and these improved scores also lasted for 6 months. However, the food behavior scores measured 6 months after the education program were not significantly different from those obtained prior to the camp. Also, the exorcist habit, the ideal body figures and the body figures desired by the subjects remained unchanged. When nutrient intakes of subjects were assessed before the program and 6 months later, the mean daily vitamin C intake was significantly increased after the education program. Also, the intake of iron from plant food sources increased in the overweight subjects, while less iron from animal source were consumed by the underweight subjects. Both groups tended to consume more vegetables and fruits 6 months after the education program which may have contribute to the higher vitamin C and plant-based iron intakes. These results indicate that a 4-day nutrition education camp program sustained changes in nutrition knowledge and nutrition attitude for 6 months. The increased intake of vegetables and fruits was also achieved through this education program. However, changes in dietary behavior in adolescents may require repeated education.   • We do not have a qualification for Health Educators in Japan. But "The Japanese Society of Health Education and Promotion" made a committee called "Education for Health Educator and Curriculum". Study on the Natural Dye Program in Gyeongsang Region (경상도 지역 천연염색 프로그램에 관한 연구)

  • This study researched the status and prospect of the natural dye program in the Gyeongsang region, with a focus on private centers with sufficient infrastructure and abundant human resources available for natural dyes. Metropolitan cities do not own the drying house and the agricultural land for natural dyes as well as have difficulty securing the land; therefore, entire sites are limited and smaller as they are closer to the city. The one-time program of all centers has been researched to help promote and maintain centers rather than generate profit. It is shown that June-August (summer) is preferred over December-February (winter). Natural dye programs for hobby and education are operated as needed because the number of participants are low. This program uses natural indigo and Persimmon Juice for the dyeing raw materials. Programs are often outsourced by other institutes with a private certification registration system the starting of a business after obtaining certification are often found in institutes operating programs directly. Future plans do not include investments in facilities (like the enlargement of experience centers) the prospect of programs and business value is bright for business strategies that include an exhibition shop for natural dye products and program development.

Development and Effectiveness Analysis of Training Program for Core Teachers of Elementary SW Education (초등 SW교육 핵심교원 양성을 위한 연수 프로그램의 개발 및 효과성 분석)

  • In this study, researchers developed the core teacher training program for elementary SW education. In order to develop the training program, the direction of training development was set, and the final version of the training was prepared through the pilot training. The main focus of the training program was to cultivate the teachers' ability to understand and apply SW education based on the national curriculum. After the program development, its effectiveness was analysed by applying it to the actual national training course. This training program was applied to the 2019 winter and summer teacher training courses organized by the Ministry of Education. To analyze the effectiveness of the training program, SW education teaching efficacy and satisfaction were surveyed. The results analysis found out the developed training program has positive effects on trained teachers.

A Development of Extracurricular Programs for Enhancing Creative Self-Efficacy based on Design Thinking Process (창의적 자기효능감 향상을 위한 디자인씽킹 기반 비교과 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a extracurricular programs for enhancing creative self-efficacy of college student based on design thinking process, and to examine the effectiveness of the developed program. Since this study is also interested in suggesting the procedure for extracurricular program development and optimizing programs by derivation of improvements, a design-based research method was applied. Results are as follow; first, the procedure for extracurricular program development proceeds in three stages, second, the programs was developed as a 30-hour in-depth program and was conducted twice during winter and summer vacation, and the last, the program was confirmed that it has a positive effect on improving creative self-efficacy. This study contributed to providing a general procedure that can be referred when developing a program that reflects the context of the university, and to present the specific program and the case that use the test tool to confirm the effectiveness.

Development and Implementation of Education Program for the Science High School Students Who Entered by Affirmative Action (사회통합전형 과학고등학교 입학생들을 위한 교육 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and implement education programs for the science high school students who entered by affirmative action. The program was developed with the goal of bridging the educational gap through effective school adaptation of these students. The program was applied, and then pre-post academic self-efficacy and self-elasticity tests and interviews were conducted. 70 students participated in the before entrance program, 56 of them participated in the summer vacation program, and 36 of them participated in one-on-one interviews related to the effectiveness of the program. In the test results, there was a significant difference only in self-elasticity, and in the interview results, it was found that the program was very helpful in terms of academic and school life. Suggestions for further support and studies were provided.
