Contribution of Large-Scale PV Plants in the Respective Region of the Jeju Island to Electric Power during Summer Peak Times (제주도 지역별 대용량 태양광발전소들의 여름 피크타임 기여도 연구)

  • Both the introduction of the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS) system into the electric energy market in 2012 and a decrease in the cost of constructing photovoltaic (PV) power plants have been increasing the number of MW PV plants in South Korea. Jeju Island is located at the center of three nations, South Korea, China and Japan, and its provincial government declared in 2012 that the island will be a clean region where greenhouse gases are not emitted by 2030. The Jeju provincial government is now doing its best to install PV plants and wind farms to realize a carbon-free island. In this study we investigated contribution of MW PV plants to the power of the electric grid during summer peak times on Jeju Island. Mt. Halla the highest mountain in South Korea, is located at the center of Jeju Island, and we divided the island into four regions and carried out analyses of a total of 24 PV plants. The average contribution of the PV plants in the respective region to electric power of Jeju Island during summer peak times was investigated and compared with those of the other regions. The best average contribution during the 12.5% maximum load period was obtained from the PV plants in the western region, and the value was 33% during 2015 and 2016.

  • This paper analyzed the characteristics of the demand of electric power in Jeju by year, day. For this analysis, this research used the correlation between the changes in the temperature and the demand of electric power in summer, and cleaned the data of the characteristics of the temperatures, using the coefficient of correlation as the standard. And it proposed the algorithm of forecasting the short-term electric power demand in Jeju, Therefore, in the case of summer, the data by each cleaned temperature section were used. Based on the data, this paper forecasted the short-term electric power demand in the exponential smoothing method. Through the forecast of the electric power demand, this paper verified the excellence of the proposed technique by comparing with the monthly report of Jeju power system operation result made by Korea Power Exchange-Jeju.

  • PV module power is calculated on PV module surface temperature adjustment by irradiation on the summer and autumn in NOCT(Nominal Operating Cell Temperature) conditions. The summer and autumn periods were selected because of large variation in outdoor air temperature and irradiation. This study was performed to understand relationship between PV module surface temperature and photovoltaic power using field measurement. As a results, it was determined that the amount of irradiation was proportional to the amount of photovoltaic power in the field measurement. However, it was also identified that the PV power generation decreased by increased PV module surface temperatures due to irradiation.

The Load Forecasting in Summer Considering Day Factor (요일 요인을 고려한 하절기 전력수요 예측)

  • In this paper, we propose a quadratic (nonlinear) regression model that forecasts daily demands of electric power in summer. For cost-effective production (and/or procurement) of electric power, forecasting demands of electric power with accuracy is important, especially in summer when temperature is high. In the literature, temperature and daily demands of preceding days are typically employed to construct forecasting models. While, we consider another factor, day of the week, together with temperature and daily demands of preceding days. For validating the proposed model, we demonstrate the forecasting accuracy in terms of MAPE(Mean Absolute Percentage Error) and MPE(Maximum Percentage Error) using field data from KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) in comparison with two forecasting models in the literature. When compared with the two benchmarks, the proposed forecasting model performs far better providing MAPE and MPE not exceeding 3.08% and 8.99%, respectively, in summer from 2005 to 2009.

  • Due to the weather sensitivity of the power load, it is difficult to forecast accurately the peak power load of summer season. We improve the accuracy of the load forecasting considering weather condition. We introduced the sensitivity of temperature and proposed an improved forecasting algorithm. The proposed algorithm shows that the error of the load forecasting is 1.5%.

  • This study investigated the symptoms of the a reduction in output while driving on the road, or increasing of fumer out exhaust gas on inclined road while working air-conditioner in summer. Notice how the experiment in 2010, the Ministry of Environment(Chapter No. 2010-46), and how the vehicle emissions inspection was carried out. 2500cc Diesel cars used in the study were used and compare to output of engine, exhaust gas, inhalation temperature measurement Inhalation of cold air has not been supplied to all agencies when comparing the results when cold air intake temperature of the supply air-conditioning switch range control from 1 to 4, the temperature drops $98^{\circ}C$ to $78^{\circ}C$. At the momentum of switch level 4, output from 63ps to 66ps after the connection has increased 9.6 percent, the highest concentration of exhaust emissions were reduced by 42.8%. This research can contribute in part to the reduction of exhaust directly supply into the cooling air intake line, doing the output of diesel cars in the summer. In addition, construction equipment and machinery that are currently being used excluding the engine's intercooler cooling of the supply line via a separate output in the summer and help reduce exhaust emissions is expected.

  • Recently, much power demand from domestic power consumer is weakening the allowable power reserve margin in summer, especially at midday for one day due to a steep increase of air cooling loads such as air conditioner. Therefore solar airconditioning system can'be considered as one of the best remedies to meet the increase of peak power. Generally in solar air conditioning system, the diode rectifier is used to build up DC link voltage from AC source. The diode rectifier is simple and cheap but it brings out the problems of low power factor and plentiful harmonics at the AC source. Also It can derate the utilization rate of solar energy because the reverse of power flow cannot be made. Hence, in this paper to overcome the peak power problem in summer and to endure good AC input characteristics, solar air conditioning system using the PWM converter is proposed. As results, obtained are the characteristics of the PWM converter such as low distorted current waveform, high power factor and bidirectional power control. And also the stability of proposed system is verified by examining the dynamics of step load change and power reversal testing. (author). refs., figs., tabs.

Attitudinal Determinants of Summer Vacation Activity Participation -Application of the Theory of Planned Behavior- (여름휴가활동 선택의 영향요인에 관한 연구 - 계획행동이론을 적용하여 -)

  • The objectives of this study was to test applicability of the theory of planned behavior by Ajzen & Driver(1992), to predicting summer vacation activity participation. Vacations to vist Sock-Cho City in summer were asked to complete a questionaire to measure attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intentions in relation to participating in three vacation activities, at the beach, at the valley, and at the pool. After summer vacation, respondents were called to answer whether or not they had participated in those activities. The results showed that attitudes toward vocation consist of affective and instrumental component Consistent with the theory, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control were significant variables in predicting intentions to participate in vacation activites. In addition, intentions and perceived control were influential in predicting vacation activities partication. Althouh the objectives of the study were achived, this application of the theory of planned behavior to Koreans summer vacation participations did not show the same power as the Ajzen & Driver's study(1992) in predicting recreation activties participation. It would be desirable for future research to apply the theory of planned behavior to various recreational settings.

  • The electric power load during the peak time in summer is strongly affected by cooling load, which decreases the preparation ratio of electricity and brings about the failure in the supply of electricity in the electric power system. The ice-storage system and heat pump system are possible solutions to settle this problem. In this study. the method of estimating temperature and humidity to forecast the cooling load of ice-storage system is suggested, then the method of forecasting the cooling load using fuzzy logic is suggested by simulating that the cooling load is calculated using actual temperature and humidity. The forecast of the temperature, humidity and cooling load are simulated, and it is shown that the forecasted data approach to the actual data. Operating the ice-storage system by the forecast of cooling load with night electric power will improve the ice-storage system efficiency and reduce the peak electric power load during the summer season as a result.
