  • Purposes of this study, summoning thoughts and activities of Toynbee Hall of the UK and Hull House of the US held in between the end of 19C and the early 20C, are two folded: first, it is to examine the momentum and aims for which 'social' work was progressively established at that time; second, it is to look for implications for today's social work practice through understanding their characteristic activities and the context in which 'social' work was devised as an alternative in the two nations. The study method mainly relies on literature review, but further goes on to analyze the spirit of the age when settlement house was constructed as a welfare space and activities, leadership demonstrated in there, and to draw meanings for today, in terms of three dimensions: aim and location, professionality and education, and social action. Some of useful findings are: first, the COS and settlement house need to be considered in a continuum of socially responsive remedies against poverty and social work practice was developed in the process of 'suggestion-performance-critique-alternative suggestion-emergence of social work', rather than contrasting the two as opposite roots of social work practice. Second, settlement house was a socially constructed welfare space that contained intersectional dynamics of class, gender, personal vs. social, private vs. public, surrounding poverty issue. Third, besides differences between the two settlements, both purported for public goods and well-being and tried to realize the 'social' in that society. Lastly, this study explored historical meanings of settlement house as the welfare space with critical questions and discussed implications for social work practice today.

  • This paper presents improvement of consumer's access and convenience to Farmers Market(Local Food Shop). We analyzed case studies and proposed plans of Local Food Shop and related facilities. The results are described below. Thorough pre-education and public relations with extensive support for agricultural products in the area and external support are necessary. Most importantly, the consuming population was close. These factors were the factors of success. Tourists' visit is effective. Consumer distance should be within 10km. Long distance tourists need a way to attract tourists on weekends. It is an advantage that there are many consumers. And it would be nice to have a market in the vicinity. And it is necessary to develop various activities such as experience activities and programs. Also, a place convenient for cooperation with the government office, public health center, etc. is good. Accessibility is enhanced when ICs of frequent highway and highway are close to cars. As a suggestion of placing a direct sales place, we will set up a place for consumers to collaborate and relax and also consider the convenience of providers. For the convenience of consumers' shopping, including sales outlets, we set up booths for daily necessities and industrial products, and place other agricultural cooperatives (NACF banks), local cafes and farmer restaurants in front. Consider multifunction combined service center for consumers and farmers.

Data were collected during July and August 1992 through interview which lasted 20~30 minutes and used open ended questions. Each woman was interviewed once about their pregnancy experience. The data were analyzed by Van Kaam’s phenomenological analysis method and categorized accord-ing to similarity of content. Results of this study are as follows. 1) Mothers felt physically supported by having help with their activities from their husbands or other family members. Psychological stress was relieved by not having to worry about and / or giving a birth to a baby boy ; getting special attention : and hearing encouraging words. 2) Mothers felt not supported when indifference was shown by her husband and / or relatives ; when forced to do an unusual household activities ; or on hearing words stressing her responsibilities. Suggestion for further study are as follows. It is necessary to see if or not the contents of an educational program would increase the perceived support of pregnant women. • An Ad-hoc network will operate properly and provide smooth communication when nodes cooperate mutually with each of them having equal authority. Although it is possible to form a network conisting only of authenticated nodes in order to ensure reliability, authentication by itself is not sufficient to remove malicious nodes and their activities jeopardizing the whole network. Detection and prevention of such activities are vital for maintaining a safe and reliable network, but research on this matter is relatively lacking. Hence a suggestion is made on how to detect and prevent malicious or uncooperative ones among the nodes forming a network by a relationship of mutual trust, thereby maintaining safety and stability of the network and improving its processing abilities

  • Since IMF relief financing, domestic economy has been rapidly cooled down. At this point that we predict an overall decrease of production and sale of industries, cooperative marketing activities of the whole dairy industry are required to promote milk consumption. As everyone knows, advertisement is only one of the various factors that affect sales. Other factors include price, distribution, package, promotion, and consumer's needs and taste. The objectives of the cooperative advertising campaign should be trial purchase of new consumers, maintenance of brand loyalty of existing consumers, more positive experience of using the product, and increase of frequency of purchase. Long term analysis is essential to making these kinds of behaviour changes. Also the objectives of the communication program should be a shift of awareness of milk from 'a basic health food for children' to a substitute to the beverage even for adults. To share database of consumers among companies, we need to find ways to use interactive on-line services, the internet, D.M. events and so on as well as the mass media. It should be a precondition that the main body of the cooperative advertisement includes the milk processing board, dairy companies, livestock cooperations, farmers and the Government. To assure continuous, activities to promote milk consumption, the Government should take the lead in legislating 'An enforcement ordinance for milk promotion and research', and seek complementary measures and support to establish the ordinance.
