Vortex generators are commonly used in mechanical engineering and the aerospace industry to suppress flow separation owing to their advantages of simple structure, economic viability, and high level of efficiency. Owing to the flow separation of the incoming wind on the leading edge, a suction area is formed on the roof surface, which results in a lifting effect on the roof. In this research, vortex generators were installed on the windward surface of a flat roof and used to disturb to roof flow field and reduced suction based on flow control theory. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed in this study to investigate the effects of vortex generators on reduce suction. It was determined that when the vortex generator was installed on the top of the roof on the windward surface, it had a significant control effect on reduce suction on the roof leading edge. In addition, the influence of parameters such as size, placement interval, and placement position of the vortex generator on the control effect of the roof's suction is also discussed.

Surgical elevation of the depressed bone is known to be the conventional treatment usually recommended for a simple depressed skull fracture in the adult or pediatric age. The authors introduce, however, a case of depressed skull fracture in an infant which was elevated by means of a cup of breast pump and a suction generator without surgical elevation. In our case, without surgery, a 'cup-shaped' depressed skull fracture in an infant was safely elevated with no neurological signs. This method is considered a simple, effective, safe, and alternative procedure in an infant with simple depressed skull fracture.
The suction method is the substructure installation using the water pressure difference generated by discharging water inside the pile by the pumping operation, after the intrusion by the self-weights of a large hollow steel pipe or a concrete structure. It is known as the low-noise and low-vibration method against the general pile driven method and eco-friendly, also. Most current design and safety assessment of the support structure and considering only the static load, however, the importance of dynamic behavior becomes magnified as the size of wind power generator increases. This study measures the natural frequency of the suction pile prototype about the penetration depth as a part of basic research and analyzed the interaction between the soil and the structure.
This study was performed to verify the possibility of nitrification and denitrification in a single reactor. In batch type experiment, optimal point of experimental conditions could be found by performing the experiments. When supply location of microbubbles was located at half of width of the aeration tank and operating pressure of 0.5 bar, it was possible for zones in the aeration tank to be separated into anoxic and aerobic by controlling air suction rate according to operating pressure of the generator. To be specific, the concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) in zone 1 and 2 of the aeration tank could be maintained as less than 0.5 mg/L. Also, in the case of concentration of oxygen in zone 3 and 4, the concentration of DO was increased up to 1.7 mg/L due to effects of microbubbles. In continuous flow type experiment based on the results of batch type experiments, the removal efficiency of nitrogen based on T-N was observed as 39.83% at operating pressure of 0.5 bar and 46.51% at operating pressure of 1 bar so it was able to know that sufficient air suction rate should be required for nitrification. Also, denitrification process could be achieved in a single reactor by using ejector type microbubble generator and organic matter and suspended solid could be removed. Therefore, it was possible to verify that zones could be separated into anoxic and aerobic and nitrification and denitrification process could be performed in a single reactor.
Microbubble technology has been widely applied in various industrial fields. Recently, research on many types of microbubble application technology has been conducted experimentally, but there is a limit in deriving the optimal design and operating conditions. Therefore, if the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of multiphase flow is used to supplement these experimental studies, it is expected that the time and cost required for prototype production and evaluation tests will be minimized and optimal results will be derived. However, few studies have been conducted on multiphase flow CFD analysis to interpret fluid flow in microbubble generators using swirl flow. In this study, CFD simulation of multiphase flow was performed to analyze the air-water mixing process and fluid flow characteristics in a microbubble generator with a dual-chamber structure. Based on the simulation results, it was confirmed that a negative pressure was formed on the central axis of rotation due to the strong swirling flow. And it could be seen that the air inside the suction tube was introduced into the inner chamber of the microbubble generator. In addition, as the high-speed mixed fluid collided with external water sucked by the negative pressure near the outlet, a large amount of microbubbles was ejected due to the shear force between the two flows flowing in opposite directions.
In this study, the ejector design was modeled using Fluent 6.3 of FVM(Finite Volume Method) CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) techniques to resolve the flow dynamics in the ejector. A vacuum system with the ejector has been widely used because of its simple construction and easy maintenance. Ejector is the main part of the desalination system, of which designs determine the efficiency of system. The effects of the ejector was investigated geometry and the operating conditions in the hydraulic characteristics. The ejector consists mainly of a nozzle, suction chamber, mixing tube (throat), diffuser and draft tube. Liquid is supplied to the ejector nozzle, the fast liquid jet produced by the nozzle entrains and the non condensable gas was sucked into the mixing tube. The multiphase CFD modeling was carried out to determine the hydrodynamic characteristics of seawater-air ejector. Condition of the simulation was varied in entrance mass flow rate (1kg/s, 1.5kg/s, 2kg/s, 2.5kg/s, 3kg/s), and position of driving nozzle was located from the central axis of the suction at -10mm, 0mm, 10mm, 20mm, 30mm.. Asaresult, suction flow velocity has the highest value in central axis of the suction.
Recently, Use of Auxiliary power unit(APU) is increasing by growing demand for improvement of insufficient electric power and installation of emergency generation devices in military tracked vehicles and civil markets. And the trend is that the units are demanded for smaller size, lighter weight and higher output power, etc to suit consumer demands. To achieve these, it is essential to develop high performance system. Therefore, in this study, it was conducted in numerical analysis to investigate flow characteristics of rotor in APU generator. Also output performance of APU applied on the rotor is analyzed by experimental method. As the result, higher rotating speed of rotor caused high air flow rate at suction and it leads to linear increase of discharging flow rate. The maximum theoretical power was achieved at 12 $m^3$/min of flow rate and, at that time, output power of generator was about 7.825 kW. Also, it can be confirmed the stabilization of output performance is achieved in about 2 seconds by experiment.
Experimental data are presented which describe the effects of a combustor-level high free-stream turbulence on the near-wall flow structure and heat/mass transfer on the endwall of a linear high-turning turbine rotor cascade. The end wall flow structure is visualized by employing the partial- and total-coverage oil-film technique, and heat/mass transfer rate is measured by the naphthalene sublimation method. A turbulence generator is designed to provide a highly-turbulent flow which has free-stream turbulence intensity and integral length scale of 14.7% and 80mm, respectively, at the cascade entrance. The surface flow visualizations show that the high free-stream turbulence has little effect on the attachment line, but alters the separation line noticeably. Under high free-stream turbulence, the incoming near-wall flow upstream of the adjacent separation lines collides more obliquely with the suction surface. A weaker lift-up force arising from this more oblique collision results in the narrower suction-side corner vortex area in the high turbulence case. The high free-stream turbulence enhances the heat/mass transfer in the central area of the turbine passage, but only a slight augmentation is found in the end wall regions adjacent to the leading and trailing edges. Therefore, the high free-stream turbulence makes the end wall heat load more uniform. It is also observed that the heat/mass transfers along the locus of the pressure-side leg of the leading-edge horseshoe vortex and along the suction-side corner are influenced most strongly by the high free-stream turbulence. In this study, the end wall surface is classified into seven different regions based on the local heat/mass transfer distribution, and the effects of the high free-stream turbulence on the local heat/mass transfer in each region are discussed in detail.
A loss of the residual heat removal (RHR) accident during mid-loop operation of Yong-gwang Nuclear Units 3/4 was analyzed using the RELAP5/MOD3.1.2 code. In this work the following assumptions are used; (i) initially the reactor coolant system (RCS) above the hot leg center line is filled with nitrogen gas, (ii) two 3/4-inch diameter vent valves on the reactor vessel head and the top of pressurizer in the reactor coolant system are always open, and a level indicator is connected to the RMR suction line, (iii) the two steam generators are in wet layup status and the steam generator atmospheric dump valve assemblies are removed so that the secondary side pressure remains at nearly atmospheric condition throughout the accident, and (iv) the loss of RHR is presumed to occur at 48 hours after reactor shutdown. Findings from the RELAP5 calculations are (i) the core boiling begins at ∼5 min, (ii) the peak RCS pressure is ∼3.0 bar, which implies a possibility of temporary seal break, (iii) ∼94 % of the decay heat is removed by reflux condensation in the steam generator U-tubes in spite of the presence of noncondensable gas, (iv) the core uncovery time is evaluated to be 7.2 hours. Significant mass errors were observed in the calculations.
Orbiter mechanism has been applied to vacuum pump design for small oxygen generator where low vacuum of about 200mmHg is required. Performance of the designed vacuum pump has been numerically investigated: calculated volumetric and adiabatic efficiencies were 69.7% and 83.9%, respectively for leakage clearance of $10{\mu}m$. Total efficiency of the orbiter vacuum pump was 77.5%. At the shaft speed of 1700 rpm suction displacement volume of 6.3cc provided discharge flow at the rate of 2.3 liter/min with power consumption of 10.1Watt. Torque variation of the orbiter pump was only about 20% of that of diaphragm pump.
