Exposure to Fine Particle along Different Commuting Routes in Urban Area of Fukuoka, Japan

  • The objective of the current study was to assess the comparative risk associated with exposure to particulate matter (PM) while commuting via different public transport modes in Fukuoka, Japan. For the given routes and measuring days, a trip-maker carried a lightweight portable bag loaded the real-time measurement devices which take simultaneous measurement for size-fractioned particle number concentration, $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration, and total suspended particle (TSP) collection. The results of the present study have shown significant differences between public transports as commuting modes in Fukuoka. The PM exposure levels on subway platform and inside subway train were overwhelmingly higher than those of other points on commuting route. The relative ratio between modes (i.e., the ratio of $PM_{2.5}$ inside subway to that inside bus) provides an idea for choosing a right commuting mode for our health. This study clearly provided evidence of the extremely high levels of iron exposure by subway uses compared to bus uses. The result of theoretically reconstructed mass concentration of $PM_{2.0-0.3}$ collected on subway platform suggests that the PM of underground subway will be associated with PM both generated in subway system and inleakaged from outdoor environment.

Box Model Approach for Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management in a Subway Station Environment

  • Air quality in a subway tunnel has been crucial in most of the subway environments where IAQ could be affected by many factors such as the number of passengers, the amount and types of ventilation, train operation factors and other facilities. A modeling approach has been introduced to manage the general IAQ in a subway station. Field surveys and $CO_2$ measurements were initially conducted to analyze and understand the relationship between indoor and outdoor air quality while considering internal pollution sources, such as passengers and subway trains, etc. The measurement data were then employed for the model development with other statistical information. For the model development, the algorithm of simple continuity was set up and applied to model the subway IAQ concerned, while considering the major air transport through staircases and tunnels. Monitored $CO_2$ concentration on the concourse and platform were correlated with modeling results where the correlation values for the concourse and platform were $R^2=0.96$ and $R^2=0.75$, respectively. It implies that the box modeling approach introduced in this study would be beneficial to predict and control the indoor air quality in subway environments.

  • The screen doors installed in the station of subway are subject to the train-wind pressure caused by the operation of trains. The train-wind pressure has to be correctly estimated for the design of safe structure of screen doors. As three-dimensional numerical flow analysis technology has been significantly developed, the analysis on the train-wind pressure with diverse variables such as train specifications, train speed, tunnel and station configurations, and blockage ratio can be effectively carried out with three-dimensional numerical method. In this study, computational analysis of train-induced wind in a subway tunnel employing the screen doors are carried out by using the three-dimensional numerical method with the model of the moving boundary for the run of trains. While the numerical analysis of train-wind pressure was applied on the one island-type station in the Seoul Subway Line 2, maximum pressure of 494 Pa was estimated on the screen door when two trains pass each other at the speed of 80km/h in the platform.

상대식 지하철 역사내 화재시 연기제어에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Smoke Control in Side-Platform Type Subway Station Fires)

  • In this study, numerical simulations were carried out to analyze the effect of the smoke extraction system and fire shutters in subway station fires using FDS 4.0. Subway station used in the experiment was 205 m long. Simulation results are validated by comparing with experimental results. Simulation results showed good agreement with experimental results within $20\;^{\circ}C$. 20 MW polystyrene was used as a fuel in the numerical prediction. Numerical predictions were performed in the side-platform type subway station in case of a train fire. Temperature and CO concentration were lowered by the operation of smoke extraction system.

  • 역사에서 발생된 화재의 영향을 평가하기 위하여 수치해석을 수행하는데 중요한 입력자료 중에 하나인 유속경계조건을 실험적으로 계측하였다. 실험은 지하 승강장의 환기시스템의 운전 모드(일반 냉방조건과 화재발생시 비상조건)에 대하여 수행되었는데, 운전 모드별로 승강장의 여러 위치에서 유속을 측정하였으며, 승강장의 급배기구의 배연용량 및 급기량을 급배기구에서 직접 측정하였다. 또한 화재영향을 해석하기 위한 수치해석 프로그램을 이용하여 평상시 운전모드의 실험값을 기반으로 화재가 발생하지 않은 경우의 유동장 해석을 수행하여 그 결과와 계측 값을 비교하였다.

Chemical Properties and Source Profiles of Particulate Matter Collected on an Underground Subway Platform

  • Under a very tough situation that there has been increasing concern to the air quality in underground subway spaces, this study set sights on the thorough estimation of the chemical properties and source apportionment of particulate matter (PM) collected on an underground subway platform by a cooperative approach of semi-bulk and single particle analyses. The size-resolved PMs were intensively collected on the platform of Miasageori station on the Seoul Subway Line-4, and then, they were semibulkily analyzed by a PIXE and the TOR$^{(R)}$ method, and individually analyzed by a SEM-EDX. Overwhelmingly enriched iron was a notable feature of elemental concentration of $PM_{2.5}$. Source classification of iron in $PM_{10-2.5}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ performed along with their elemental concentrations, indicates that the railway originated iron accounts for 95.71% and 66.39% of total iron in $PM_{10-2.5}$ and $PM_{2.5}$, respectively. Via a stoichiometric categorization, $Fe_2O_3$, $CaAl_2Si_2O_8$, $Al_2O_3$, and $CaCO_3$ show more than 85% abundance ratio in individual coarse particles. The result of theoretical estimation of the subway derived organic carbon ($OC_{Subway}$) suggests that $OC_{Subway}$ in $PM_1$ and $PM_{2.5-1}$ account for 75.86% and 51.88% of total organic carbon, respectively.

기술적 해결을 통한 위험관리의 가능성과 한계: 지하철 스크린도어를 중심으로 (The Possibility and Limit of Risk Management through Technological Fix: A Case Study into the Platform Screen Door (PSD))

  • 이 글은 지하철 위험의 해결책으로 제시된 스크린도어를 대상으로 "기술적 해결"(technological fix)의 가능성과 한계를 검토하고 있다. 지하철 위험은 그 유형에 따라 모두 다섯 종류―"전철운행 사고", "역사 내 사고", "승강장 사고", "지하의 공간적 위험", "범죄 및 테러의 위험"―로 분류할 수 있는데, 가장 중요한 것은 궤도와 역사의 접촉면에 위치한 승강장에서 발생하는 승강장 사고이다. 스크린도어는 승강장 사고를 예방할 수 있는 효과적인 기술적 수단으로 여겨진다. 여기에는 사고를 기술적 수단을 통해 해결하려는 기술적 해결의 이데올로기가 강하게 작용한다. 신설되는 역이 아니라 기존 역의 승강장에 스크린도어를 설치하는 것이 세계적으로 유래를 찾기 힘든 경우라는 사실이 이를 잘 보여준다. 스크린도어는 현실적 수단으로서 가시적 효과를 낳았지만 예상치 못한 비가시적 위험을 가중시킨 측면도 없지 않다. 승강장 내부, 특히 출퇴근 환승역 승강장에서 화재가 발생했을 때, 스크린도어는 승객의 탈출로를 차단하는 "통곡의 벽"으로 돌변할 수 있다. 기술적 해결에 대한 지나친 기대와 의존은 금물이며, 그 한계에 대한 성찰이 요구되는 이유이다.

서울시 지하철 시스템 내의 입자상물질(PM10, PM2.5) 농도 특성 (Concentration and Properties of Particulate Matters (PM10 and PM2.5) in the Seoul Metropolitan)

  • Seoul subway plays an important part for the public transportation service in Seoul metropolitan area. As the subway system is typically a closed environment, frequent air pollution problems occurred and passengers get malhealth impact. Especially particulate matters (PM) is well known as one of the major pollutants in subway environments. The purpose of this study was to compare the concentrations of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ in the Seoul subway system and to provide fundamental data in order to management of subway system. $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ samples were collected in the M station platform and tunnel of Subway Line 4 in Seoul metropolitan and in an outdoor location close to it from Apr. 21, 2010~Oct. 27, 2013. The samples collected on teflon filters using $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ mini-volume portable samplers and PM sequential sampler. The PM contributions were $48.6{\mu}g/m^3$ (outdoor), $84.6{\mu}g/m^3$ (platform) and $204.8{\mu}g/m^3$ (tunnel) for $PM_{10}$, and $34.6{\mu}g/m^3$ (outdoor), $49.7{\mu}g/m^3$ (platform) and $83.1{\mu}g/m^3$ (tunnel) for $PM_{2.5}$. The $PM_{10}$ levels inside stations and outdoors are poorly correlated, indicating that $PM_{10}$ levels in the metro system are mainly influenced by internal sources. In this study, we compared PM concentrations before and after operation of ventilation and Electrostatic Precipitator (EP). Despite the increased PM concentration at outdoor, $PM_{10}$ concentration at platform and tunnel showed the 31.2% and 32.3% reduction efficiency after operation the reduction system. The overall results of this study suggest that the installation and operation of the ventilating system and EP should have served as one of the important components for maintaining the air quality in the subway system.

스크린도어 설치에 따른 지하승강장 제연의 문제점과 대책 - 부산 지하철 3호선을 중심으로 - (Smoke Control in a Subway Station Platform with Screen Doors - Based on Busan Subway Line 3 -)

  • 스크린 도어로 격리된 지하철 역 승강장의 제연의 문제점을 조사하고 그 대책을 마련하기 위해 승강장 일부에 대하여 수치해석을 수행하였다. 바닥면적 $40m{\times}5m$, 높이 3m의 구역에 1 MW의 화재가 발생하고 배기방식의 제연설비가 작동하는 것으로 가정하였다. 세가지 배기풍량 0.1, 2.0, $4.0m^3/min-m^2$에 대해 온도와 연기의 농도, 일산화탄소의 농도, 가시거리의 분포를 비교하였다. 또 배기풍량에 따른 제연성능을 알아보기 위해 무작위분포 입자수의 시간 변화율도 조사하였다. 급기풍량이 적은 경우에는 공기의 공급부족으로 제연에 시간이 많이 소요되는 것으로 나타났다. 화재시에는 선로에서 승강장으로 자연급기가 가능한 구조로 하여, 제연이 효율적으로 이루어지게 할 필요가 있으며, 기존의 부산 지하철 3호선 지하역 승강장에는 비상시에 화재가 완전히 소화될 때까지 승강장과 선로간의 문을 개방해두는 것이 바람직함을 확인하였다.

대심도 지하철 승강장의 종류별 연기전파특성 비교고찰 (THE COMPARISON ON THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE FIRE DRIVEN SMOKE-FLOW FOR THE PLATFORM TYPES IN THE DEEPLY UNDERGROUND SUBWAY STATION)

  • 본 논문에서는 대심도 지하철역사의 승강장 종류에 따라 화재시 연기의 전파특성을 비교하였다. 본 연구에서 비교 대상역사로서 상대식 승강장은 서울 숭실대입구역사(47m)로, 섬식은 부산 만덕지하역사(65m)를 선정하여 각 역사에 대하여 화재전산모사를 수행하였다. 해석을 통하여 화재의 연기전파특성을 파악하였으며, 그 결과를 이용하여 각 승강장 종류별로 대심도 지하역사의 방재대책을 세우고자 한다.
