An ATM Network Management System for Point-to-Multipoint Reservation Service

  • This paper describes an integrated network management framework for providing point-to-multipoint reservation service (PMRS) in an ATM network. There are two major issues confronting the network service provider in relation to this service: one is to rapidly confirm the acceptability of the subscriber's reservation at subscription time, and the other is to punctually activate the reserved point-to-multipoint service. To meet these requirements, we developed a service provision model (SPM) and a network resource model of a bandwidth allocation timetable (BATT). We propose a point-to-multipoint routing algorithm composed of ordering and backtracking procedures, which can find the best branch point under the complex network topology and can add more destinations to the existing point-to-multipoint route. We demonstrate the feasibility of the SPM, the BATT, and the point-to-multipoint routing algorithm by implementing our schemes and analyzing their performance under the operational ATM network of KT(Korea Telecom).

  • We explain the Presence Model defined in IETF IMPP WG. We also roughly explain the standards defined methods and behaviors among components for services according to presence model. We especially explain the XCAP technology which is defined authorization rules related subscription and notification of presence information and describe the design considerations of PA server for presence service.

  • To compensate the loss of leased-line subscribers and the excessive increase of residential xDSL (Digital Subscriber Line) ones of KT (Korea Telecom), the paper proposes the service model by which it can reinstate the subscription ratio status through employing next generation OSS (Operations Support System) and highquality MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) VPN (Virtual Private Network). It also describes diverse modules comprising NeOSS (New OSS) of KT, followed by detailed accounts regarding the service delivery process of KT VPN. Shortly visited are the primary constituents as well as configuration parameters of MPLS VPN. Finally the network topology along with a feasible service model case is presented.

  • In this research, we develope an estimation method for the estimation of the market potential in the new service (or product) diffusion model. The developed method is based on the ordered response model which can effectively incorporate the survey result of the multi-point scale intention for subscription as well as the responder's characteristics, the characteristics & attitudes of the related service. We also apply the developed method to an estimation of the market potential of the digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service. As a result, an optimistic and a pessimistic estimates of DMB market potential are 41.10% and 14.83% of the cellular subscribers respectively.

  • This study aims to research the influences of the discrimination of internet media and one-person media environment, especially, the one-person media creators leading the mobile media that could be accessed and viewed anywhere, on the user attitude and continuous subscription intention. Especially, this study aimed to understand the current situation of one-person media market represented as YouTube, to explore the relationship and ecology between each subject and elements composing the media market, and also to understand the mediating effects of the characteristics of YouTube creators on the relation between contents involvement and user attitude, and the relation between user attitude and subscription intention, and the mediating effects of contents involvement on the relation between characteristics of creators and user attitude. As research methods, first, for the theoretical establishment, this study collected, conducted, and organized the published domestic/foreign theses/journal papers. For the objective validity and verification of the established research model, a survey was conducted targeting adult men and women currently watching YouTube, and then the empirical analysis was performed through the final effective samples. And the results of this study are as follows. First, the playfulness and reliability on the relation between characteristics of creators and contents involvement were not significant while the professionalism was significant. Second, the professionalism on the relation between characteristics of creators and user attitude was not significant while the playfulness and reliability were significant. Third, the relation between contents involvement and user attitude was significant. Fourth, the relation between user attitude and subscription intention was also significant. Also, in the results of verifying the mediating effects of contents involvement, the contents involvement completely mediated the relation between characteristics(playfulness, reliability, and professionalism) of creators and user attitude. And in the conclusion, this study presented the implications and suggestions for further researches in the future.

The Development and Effects of a Preventative Learning Consultation Program for University Underachievers (학습부진 대학생을 위한 예방적 학습컨설팅 프로그램 개발과 효과)

  • The numbers of learning underachievers in college are gradually increasing. As a result, the need for extracurricular programs to increase learning in college is also growing. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors of learning difficulty and develop a model of learning consulting for college underachievers. This study also aimed to evaluate this model's validity. Using both 56 subscription forms of college underachievers and three sets of focus group interviews at B university, we found that students had difficulties in goal and career setting, management of grades and tests, learning methods, time management, failure overcome ability, lack of learning habit sustaining power and learning motivation, and so on. We developed a model of learning consulting for college underachievers based on these factors and applied the model to evaluate it's validity, testing it on 31 underachievers currently enrolled in college, five times every week. Let we say in conclusion that this model of learning consulting had positive effects on changing college underachiever's character, emotion, motivation, and behavior towards learning.

Analysis of Evaluation Indicators for the Development of Evaluation Models of Foreign Academic Journals (대학도서관의 외국학술지 평가모형 개발을 위한 평가지표 분석)

  • The purposes of this study are to compare and analyze the evaluation indicators for selection of journal suggested by scholars and organizations and to prepare theoretical background for the ideal model to meet opposing paradigms of collection management in academic libraries. A web survey method was employed to investigate applications of various selection criteria (27 for printed and 37 for electronic academic Journal) from the top 40 academic libraries in Korea. In addition, data were analysed statistically using factor analysis, t-test, Analysis of Variance(ANOVA), and Spearman's Rank Oder Correlation. The mean ranking for 9 evaluation indicators for printed were as follows: subscribing volumes per departments, degree of use, selection authority, electronic/print bundle, ISI impact factor, Internationality and reputation, costs for subscription, ILL & DDS, space considerations for printed materials. But, 11 evaluation indicators for electronic were as follows : costs for subscription, accessibility, electronic/print bundle, consortia, selection authority, access expandability, subscribing volumes per departments, scholarly features of the university, ISI impact factor, ILL & DDS, internationality and reputations.

A Study on a New SIP Presence Service using Partial Publication and Extended Call Processing Language (부분 Publication 및 확장 호처리언어를 사용한 새로운 SIP 프레즌스 서비스에 관한 연구)

  • The presence service which provides user's presence information by subscription and notification is one of SIP(session initiation protocol) extension services, and it is used importantly in VoIP(Voice over IP) and Instant Messaging service. In this paper, we propose a new method in which users can combine and control presence service and call processing services in various ways by extending call processing language, and only changed parts of the presence information are published instead of full presence information document. Each user registers full presence information document with his own call processing script during the first publication to a presence server. The presence server executes these call processing scripts, so it can provide various services with combination of presence service and call processing services during the presence subscriptions and notifications. Afterwards, users publish only changed parts of the presence information and the presence server notify only these changed parts to watchers. Therefore the efficiency of the overall system can be improved. The performance of our proposed model is evaluated by experiments.

Three Qualities of OTT Services: A Mixed Methods Approach (OTT 서비스의 세 가지 질적 요소: 혼합적 연구방법을 통한 접근)

  • Since over-the-top (OTT) service has emerged as a new way of consuming video contents, OTT markets grow exponentially and the competition among the OTT services becomes intense. Only limited systematic research effort has been paid to understand why users subscribe such OTT services among other services. Therefore, we used developmental sequential mixed methods approach to find out the quality factors and their effect on post-subscription experiences and continuance intention. In the qualitative study, we derived six factors which a user considers important to continue the subscription. Based on the explored factors, we hypothesized a research model with modified three qualities from ISSM. The proposed research model was validated through quantitative research, a survey of 226 OTT service users in South Korea, using structural equation modeling. The results indicated that content quality is the key factor affecting both perceived enjoyment and satisfaction whereas system quality affects satisfaction, and service quality only affects enjoyment. Enjoyment affects satisfaction which sequentially affects continuance usage intention. This study contributes to research by modifying ISSM through mixed methods. It also provides OTT service providers with insight to enhance users' post experience and continuance intention to use the service through qualities derived from the interview.

Analysis of Price Charge Strategies in Online Content Markets (온라인 컨텐츠 시장에서의 유료화 전략에 관한 분석)

  • The Internet provides a new distribution channel of digital contents for conventional media firms such as newspaper, magazine and encyclopedia publishers and broadcasting companies with very low marginal production and distribution cost. In comparison to traditional offline channel, there have been various revenue models in online content markets such as advertising model, subscription model, affiliation fee model, etc. In the earlier of the Internet era, most of online content firms provided their services free in order to boost offline revenue or they depend on advertising revenue sources in lieu of attaining revenue from their contents. However, as many online content firms are confronted with many difficulties in attaining revenues from online advertising model, they began to charge their contents. This paper shows why they charge their contents and explores entry conditions when conventional firms enter online content markets. And also this paper discusses managerial implications related to pricing strategies in online content markets.
