Since the working machine generates an excessive loud noise as much as its use-purpose and dimension, those damages are occurring to the exposed workers such as unpleasant sense, stress and occupational hearing-impaired. Accordingly, as one of the measures for prevention such loud noise, various soundproof protection tools were developed. However, such soundproof protection tools were presented the physical measured value only, it is real state that the psychological study result with regard to the soundproof effect which the workers are actually feeling, is not existing. On such point of view, with the object on the typical earplugs and earcaps among the soundproof protection tools, this study has ever tried a subjective evaluation about the degree of soundproof effect through Psycho-acoustics experiment. It is considering that such study result could be utilized as the useful material when establishing the soundproof measure for the workers in the future.
Along with the aging society, the prevalence of dementia is also increasing. Dementia causes short-term memory loss as well as difficulties of performing daily activities and gradually causes suffering of the patients and their family. In spite of various programs for prevention of dementia of older people are being implemented, there is a lack of developing natural-based program for physical and mental health promotion. Therefore, it is necessary to develop programs for the elderly living alone who are more vulnerable to dementia because of their social and economic isolation. The purpose of this study was to develop a natural-based program and investigate the effects of 10 weeks forest therapy program for dementia prevention to improve the psychological and physical health of the elderly living alone. The experimental subjects were 30 elderly (aged 65 or older) and 31 elderly participated in control group. The Stress response, depressive symptoms, weight, body mass index (BMI), fat mass and muscle mass were measured for pre and post test. The results showed that the experimental group showed subjective stress relief (t=5.249, p=.000), improvement in symptoms of depression (t=4.152, p=.000), and decreases in weight (t=2.686, p=.012), BMI (t=2.629, p=.014) and fat mass (t=2.918, p=.007) after the forest therapy program. The experimental group showed lower stress reactions(t=-7.185, p=.000) and less depressive symptoms (t=-5.303, p=.000) than control group after participating the program. These results suggest that periodic forest exposure can help having less stressful and depressive status than non-forest exposure and the forest therapy program can reduce participants' psychological and physical risk factors of dementia.
This study was conducted to identify factors that affect subjective health in middle-aged with hypertension. Hypertension, a representative chronic disease, is a disease of increasing prevalence from middle age. To effectively manage hypertension from middle age, it is necessary to revise lifestyle based on subjective health awareness. The subjects of this study were 2,254 middle-age with hypertension who were 30-64 years of age among the 2014-17 national health and nutrition survey. Study variables consisted of general, physical, and psychological factors. For data analysis, compound statistics were made using SPSS 25.0 program and then complex statistics. The results of this study showed that the factors that significantly influenced the subjective health of the subjects were sex, age, economic level, number of households, home ownership, stress, quality of life, and their explanatory power was 20.4% (F = 12.58, p<.001). The results of this study can be used as a basis for the intervention to improve the subjective health of middle-aged with hypertension. Appropriate lifestyle modifications are needed to effectively manage hypertension based on good subjective health awareness.
This study was attempted to identify the differences in convergence variables that affect wage workers and self-employes' quality of life. The 2013-2017 National Health Nutrition Survey data were used. This study found the factors that affected the quality of life of wage workers were age, economic status, number of family members, marital status, feeling of depression, subjective health status (F = 5.06, p <.001.). Factors that affected the quality of life of self-employed were age, frequency of lunch, frequency of drinking, strength exercise day, BMI, Subjective body shape perception, stress and subjective health status (F = 8.60, p <.001). The results of this study show that in order to develop nursing interventions to improve the quality of life for workers, their characteristics and physical and psychological factors should be taken into account.
The author reviewed psychosomatic aspects of bronchial asthma including psychological aspect of bronchial asthma, patients' reactions to illness, reactions of therapists and families, effect of bronchial asthma on mental function, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. The therapists' understanding of these aspects is likely to be helpful in their predicting and understanding the type of adaptation their asthmatic patients are making to their illness. Thus, the therapists need to recognize the asthmatics' psychological needs. They also should understand the vicious cycle of anxiety-hyperventilation-panic-fear-avoidance in patients with bronchial asthma and should try to break this cycle. To make it possible, the patients' panic-fear level should be assessed and sometimes it will require psychiatrists' advice. On the other hand, the asthmatics should be trained to be shaped to relate subjective feeling of pulmonary function with objective pulmonary measures, which will enable these patients to perceive their early symptoms and to cope with asthma attack effectively. The therapists need to pay attention to their emotion during evaluation and treatment of patients with bronchial asthma, because they are less likely to perceive stress and express their emotion.
Pain, which is the most significant issue for the physical therapist, is the cause of various diseases until it disappears, and results in a lot of obstructions to treatment. Pain is very complicated. It is a subjective symptom that informs of a pathologic condition in the body, and one of the unpleasant experiences that people have. It is accompanied with anxiety and fear. Many researchers including Krause(1987) have identified the pain mechanism based on pain perception for many centuries and they have suggested many theories as they believed that pain management was possible. Reviewing the contents of psychoanalysis, uncontrollable pain that can't be explained is described as a defense mechanism to an unconscious psychological conflict. That is, mental pain is transferred to the body and the pain becomes unbearable. What is important is, like Keefe(1992) said, that the pain experience itself is primary stress and one should cope with it, whatever the cause of the pain. This paper investigates the background of the psychological theory of pain. Based on the efforts of previous studies, the next research generation will understand the treatment process for pain more dearly and will contribute to the prevention and protection from pain that humans undergo.
Objectives The eye movement (EM) has been reported to play a role in enhancing the retrieval of episodic memories and reducing effects of fearful episodes in the past and worries for the futures. However, it is still unclear in the mechanism of EM in normal subjects. We examined the horizontal eye movement (HEM) effect using an aiding apparatus on mental health indices including negative and positive psychological factors, and psychophysiological measures such as heart rate variability and quantitative electroencepaholography (qEEG) in healthy subjects. Methods Twenty eight healthy subjects were recruited and randomly allocated into two groups : active HEM group and control group. The active HEM group conducted the HEM training with usual stress management audio-intervention using the apparatus inducing eye movement once a day for 14 days. The control group also conducted the same training once a day for 14 days, however, the saccadic eye movement was not included in this training. Psychological measurements, neurocognitive function tests, heart rate variability measurement and qEEG were conducted before and after the training in both groups. Results In the active HEM group, sleep status using Sleep Quality Scale (SQS) positive factors significantly increased after the training. By contrast, scores on the negative items of Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), and negative items of the Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) were significantly decreased after the training. The percentage of delta amplitude (1-3 Hz) in qEEG significantly decreased after the HEM training. The percentage of alpha amplitude (8-12 Hz) significantly increased after HEM training. The change of delta amplitude in the active HEM group was positively correlated with the change of sleep satisfaction of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the change of alpha amplitude was negatively correlated with depression of VAS, anxiety of VAS and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Conclusions The HEM training improved sleep quality and well-being, and sense of optimism. The HEM training also increased alpha amplitude and decreased delta amplitude in qEEG. The qEEG changes were well correlated with subjective improvement of mental health indices in healthy subjects. These results suggest some evidences that HEM training using the apparatus that induces EM would be helpful in improving subjective mental health in healthy subjects. Further study with larger samples size would be needed.
This study was a descriptive exploratory study to provide a foundation for improving the healthy working environment in Korean Red Cross Blood Center workers. A total of 215 surveys were collected from September 8 to October 31, 2020. Chi-squared test or Fisher's extract test, Independent t-tests, and Multiple Logistic Regression were performed with the SPSS 19.0 statistical program. We conducted multiple logistic regression analysis to evaluate the relationship between positive psychology capital and job stress with the perceived health status. The good perceived health status was 35.3%(N=76). When adjusted for related factors, the general characteristics and work characteristics were not related to perceived health status, and the positive psychological capital and job stress were significantly different between healthy and unhealthy groups (p<.001, p<.001). As positive psychology capital increased by one unit, the odds ratio of good health groups for subjective health increased significantly 1.1 times [95% Confidence interval (CI: 1.0-1.1)] and the odds ratio for good health groups for subjective health status decreased by 0.9 times [95% Confidence interval (CI: 0.8-0.9] as job stress increased by one unit.
The purpose of this study was to introduce effects of Chukyu pharmacopuncture and Brainspotting on knee pain, headaches, and acute stress disorder of a patient with a traffic accident. We treated a patient with Chukyu pharmacopuncture and Brainspotting. Numerical rating scale (NRS), Range of Motion (ROM), Hyperextension Position (HEP), Effusion (Eff), Patella Compression Test (PCT), Frontal Flexion Position (FFP), McMurray (MCM), Lateral Joint Line Tenderness (LJLT), Medial Joint Line Tenderness (MJLT), Anterior Drawer Test (ADT), Lachman Test, Varus/Valgus stress, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Core Seven Emotions Inventory Short Form (CSEI-S), Subjective units of disturbance scale (SUDs), and Heart rate variability (HRV) were used to evaluate the patient. After the patient was treated by Chukyu pharmacopuncture and Brainspotting, the patient showed improvement in NRS, physical examination, and psychological symptom assessment. These results indicate that Chukyu pharmacopuncture and Brainspotting are effective on knee pain, headache, and acute stress disorder after a traffic accident.
