Purpose: This study was designed to identify the image of nurse and it's determinants among nursing students and non-nursing students. Method: A descriptive correlational research design was used. All 1908 subjects were obtained by convenience sampling from three nursing diploma programs. The data were collected using a self-reporting questionnaire from April 1st to June 30th, 2005. Collected data were analyzed on SPSS Win 12.0. Result: The mean score of 'professional image factor' was higher than any other factors of image of nurse in both nursing students and non-nursing students. The mean score of 'subjective determinant' was higher than any other determinants among nursing students and non-nursing students. The image of nurse and it's determinants of nursing students were significantly higher than those of non-nursing students'. Conclusions: The findings of this study indirectly showed that the practical strategies would be needed in order to promote the image of nurse of the people who were not be related to nursing.
Purpose: To identify nursing students' ethical value associated with the course of theories and practice which they are taking in their school, this study was conducted. Method: A research design of this study was a survey design with a convenience sample of 1030 nursing students attending two diploma degree nursing programs in Korea. Questions about their ethical value were asked the students from May, 1st 2005 to June, 30th, 2005, and collected data were analyzed on SPSS Win 11.0. Result: Mean score of ethical value of nursing students' was $88.03{\pm}9.46$. In addition, on such subcategory area as human-life, relationship with nursing client, relationship with collaborator, there were statistical differences according to their grade. Ethical value of nursing students satisfied with nursing showed meaningfully higher than that of nursing students unsatisfied with nursing. Conclusions: The finding of this study, consequently, showed that nursing students' ethical value can be changed through nursing education. Especially, clinical practice conducted on actual clinical setting, which give nursing students opportunities for direct contact with patients, is likely to influence the development of ethical values more than theory or practice in a school practice room.
Purpose: This study investigated how interprofessional education (IPE) related to medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students, has been designed and conducted. Furthermore, the outcomes of these IPE programs were evaluated. Methods: A scoping review was performed to understand the content and methods of IPE on medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students. A literature search was done using PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Research Information Sharing Service, and Korean Nursing Database in English between January 2000 and December 2022. In total, 14 papers were selected and reviewed. Results: Eleven research studies were conducted on the implementation of one-time IPE on medication safety or errors. Among them, six studies focused on providing IPE to nursing students alongside medical and pharmacy students, while three studies targeted nursing and medical students, and two studies focused on nursing and pharmacy students. The most commonly employed educational method was simulation, which was utilized in 12 studies. All studies consistently reported a positive impact on attitudes toward IPE and effective communication. Additionally, five studies evaluating medication knowledge reported improvements in participants' understanding of drugs. Conclusion: The effects of IPE related to medication for undergraduate nursing students have been confirmed. It is necessary to introduce IPE in the field of pharmacology.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of perceived readiness for interprofessional learning and its differences between nursing and other health-related students. Methods: A web-based survey was conducted from April 25 to June 30, 2017 in one university in Korea. A total of 325 undergraduate nursing students and other health-related disciplines completed the structured questionnaire consisting of Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale and general characteristics. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression. Results: The scores of readiness for interprofessional learning in nursing students were significantly higher than those in other health-related students (t=3.50, p=.001). Nursing students had higher collaboration, professional identity, and roles and responsibilities than other health-related students. The class experiences with other major students was a significant factor related to the readiness for interprofessional learning both in nursing (p=.001) and other health-related students (p=.001). Conclusion: The findings suggest that nursing educators consider the different level of readiness for interprofessional learning between nursing and other health-related students while integrating interprofessional education into nursing education curricula.
Background: The aim of this study was to determine the health beliefs and knowledge about breast self examination (BSE) and the actual BSE habits of female university nursing students. Materials and Methods: The study sample recruited 189 nursing students who agreed to participate in the study. Descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test, one way ANOVA test, t test and Pearson correlation analysis were used to analyse the data. Results: 83.1% of nursing students had knowledge about breast cancer (BC) and BSE in the study. BSE was practiced by 70.4% of nursing students; 21.8% of them performed BSE regularly. A fear of developing BC was an incentive for 85% of nursing students to practice BSE. The confidence subscale scores in the third and fourth years of students' university education were higher, and the barrier subscale score in these same years was lower than their first years of study. Perception of benefit of nursing students experiencing breast-related discomfort exerted a positive effect. Nursing students with lower perception of barriesr performed BSE regularly. In conclusion, nursing students' years of university study, breast cancer knowledge, history of breast cancer in family, and BSE practice status were factors affecting their health beliefs. Conclusions: These study results indicate the importance of developing education and training programs which educate not only nursing students but all women about breast cancer, its symptoms, the importance of early diagnosis and of regular BSE.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify difference in gender stereotype between female nursing students and humanities students. Methods: A descriptive comparative study was done. The subjects were 300 nursing students and 114 humanities students who were selected by convenient sampling. Data were collected from September 2008 to October 2008 using a constructive questionnaire with 30 questions, which was prepared for this study by modifying the instrument about gender stereotype developed by Kim. The data were analyzed through ANCOVA, factor analysis and Chronbach's.using the SPSS program. Results: 1) Of the six subcategories of gender stereotype, five were higher in the nursing students than in the humanities students, but occupational gender stereotype was not. 2) Age affected total, familiar, social, external, and intellectual gender stereotype. 3) Self-satisfaction and major satisfaction affected social gender stereotype. 4) In the analysis of difference in gender stereotype with controlling age, self-satisfaction and major satisfaction, the nursing students showed statistically significant higher scores in intellectual stereotype than the humanities students. Conclusion: Because female nursing students tended to show high gender stereotype, nursing educators need to develop programs for helping nursing students escape from gender stereotypes and increase their self-satisfaction.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical practice experiences of nursing students who completed the courses of nursing curricula in college. Method: The data was collected using a questionnaire with 191 task elements in 8 nursing standards specified by the Korean Nurses Association(2003), from December 2004 to January 2005. Three hundred thirty-three nursing students from five three-year and five four-year colleges of nursing were selected for respondents. Result: The nursing activities which over 70% of the students had performance experiences with were 23 items(12.04%) practiced frequently in clinical settings, simple, low in malpractice risk and noninvasive in characteristic. In addition, the nursing activities which under 30% of students had performance experiences with were 87 items(45.55%). The nursing activities which over 70% of students had only observation experiences with were 20 items(10.47%). Also, the nursing activities that over 30% of students didn't have any experiences with were 19 items(9.95%) not frequently seen in the clinical setting. Conclusion: It is concluded that the students are not fully qualified as the new nurses of the future. Therefore, every effort to develop a more effective clinical nursing education in school, clinical settings and in students themselves is needed.
