Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the needs of RN-BSN students concerning the RN-BSN curriculum and make suggestions for improvement in the curriculum based on the needs of the students. Method: A descriptive survey study was used. Data were collected from 707 RN-BSN senior students in 21 universities. The research instrument, which was developed after in-depth interviews with 13 RN-BSN students, consisted of 10 curriculum objectives, 34 cultural courses, 48 major courses, three questions on clinical practicum, and teaching methods for 5 required courses. Result: The curriculum objectives selected by the RN-BSN students were problem solving, clinical applicability, critical thinking, creative thinking, and decision making. They wanted cultural courses such as English, understanding of human behavior, social welfare, women's studies, psychology, nutrition science, leadership, recreation, computer applications, exercise and health. They wanted major courses to include the nursing process, nursing research, health assessment, advanced adult nursing, infection control, spiritual/hospice nursing, and nursing of cancer patients. They responded that a clinical practicum was not necessary. They wanted to experience various teaching methods according to particular characteristics of subject being taught. Conclusion: This study suggests some recommendation for improvement of the curriculum based on the needs of RN-BSN students.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify nursing students' fall prevention activities, health beliefs of falling and factors associated with fall prevention activities among nursing students. Methods: 149 nursing students from a university completed self-administered questionnaires including participants' characteristics, fall prevention activities, and health belief of falling. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used to determine significant independent factors of fall prevention activities. Results: The score for fall prevention activities was $62.40{\pm}9.78$, which was relatively high. The regression model had an adjusted $R^2$ of .16, which indicated that perceived susceptibility was a factor affecting fall prevention activities of nursing students. Conclusion: To increase perceived susceptibility, repetitive fall prevention education including various examples of falls could help nursing students to promote fall prevention activities. Nursing faculty should develop contents to increase recognition of obligation and responsibility regarding fall prevention in curriculum for nursing students.
Purpose: To identify effects of menstrual attitude, premenstrual syndrome, and stress response on quality of life of nursing students. Methods: Subjects were 135 nursing students who agreed to participate in this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Premenstrual syndrome, younger than 20 years of age, and habit of eating bland food in everyday life were factors influencing quality of life of nursing students. These factors accounted for 17.6% of quality of life. Premenstrual syndrome toward quality of life was the most influential factor. Conclusion: Premenstrual syndrome is the most significant factor affecting the quality of life of nursing students. To increase their quality of life, it is important to develop and apply educational programs using factors influencing quality of life of the nursing students. Results of this study will be useful as basic data for improving quality of life of nursing students. Additional study is needed to test its effect in the future.

Average score for consciousness of biomedical ethics in nursing students was $2.92{\pm}.16$ and that of nursing professional values was $3.61{\pm}.34$. Among the sub-areas of consciousness of biomedical ethics, right to life of newborn was highest. Purpose: This study elicited Korean students' experiences of nursing practice at geriatric hospitals. Method: A purposive sample of 26 Korean nursing students was recruited from K College of Nursing located in Daegu, Korea. Inclusion criteria were nursing students who: 1) finished nursing practice at geriatric hospitals, 2) were oriented and communicable, and 3) understood research purpose and agreed to participate in this study. Individuals were interviewed using Q-methodology. Results: The majority of the participants had experience of living with the elderly and volunteering related to elder care. Data analysis showed that participants' experiences of nursing practices were consisted of three types: skill acquiring-oriented, relationship-oriented, and practice system-oriented. Conclusion: Nursing practices at geriatric hospitals provided opportunities of having positive attitude toward the elderly for nursing students. Nursing students' experiences were divided into at least three different types. Nursing educators need to develop curriculum for gerontological nursing practice tailoring to theses differences.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to clarify longitudinally the professional socialization (PS), self-esteem (SE1), and self-efficacy (SE2) over time in nursing students. Methods: Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from the same nursing students in 2008, 2009, and 2010 years. Descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA test with the SAS package were used for the data analysis. Results: The differences in the PS, SE1, and SE2 over time were not significant in nursing students. However, the differences in decision making over time were significant in nursing students. Conclusion: These results suggest that SE1 and SE2 continuously affected professional socialization over time. Therefore, it is necessary to devise a continuing and long-term strategy, which strengthens SE1 and SE2 in order to improve professional socialization.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the status of caffeine-containing energy drink consumption among Korean nursing students and to identify associated psychological factors. Methods: In total, 187 Korean nursing students participated in this cross-sectional study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to identify participants' general characteristics and psychosocial factors (self-esteem, academic stress, depression, and college adjustment) associated with energy drink consumption. Data were analyzed with SPSS using descriptive statistics, the $x^2$ test, the t-test, and logistic regression. Results: More than two-thirds (73.3%) of the participants had consumed energy drinks. Among the investigated psychological factors, depression appeared to most strongly influence energy drink consumption behaviors in this population. Conclusion: The consumption of caffeine-containing energy drinks was found to be common among nursing students preparing to become health care professionals; depressed nursing students were more likely to have consumed energy drinks than non-depressed students. Nursing educators should emphasize the early detection of unhealthy beverage consumption habits and provide appropriate education to enhance healthy behaviors in future health care professionals.

Purpose: South Korea is rapidly changing into a multicultural society; the nursing discipline faces the need to educate its students in cultural competence to meet the health care needs of an ethnically diverse population. However, there is little evidence suggesting that nursing programs provide this education. The purpose of this study was to measure nursing students' cultural awareness in a nursing education program. Methods: Four hundred thirty-three nursing students at 4 universities in Daejeon participated in this cross-sectional descriptive study, which was held from August to September 2012. Data collection was conducted via questionnaires based on the Cultural Awareness Scale(CAS), and demographics included general and cultural characteristics. Results: The mean cultural awareness score was 4.54, which was relatively low compared to studies completed in other countries. The highest rating was in the cognitive awareness subscale, and the lowest was in the general education experiences subscale in CAS. The level of cultural awareness was significantly different in those who had experienced overseas travel. Those students also perceived a greater need for cultural education. Conclusion: The study's finding suggest the need for a transcultural nursing education program designed to enhance the level of cultural awareness in Korea's nursing students.
