The aim of this research is to develop a 'program which improves critical thinking' to improve elementary school students' mathematical thinking, and investigate the effect of program by applying and verifying the program. In order to achieve the objective, the author determined the factors of critical thinking capabilities matched to the discipline of mathematics, and accordingly designed relevant programs and test questions for critical thinking skills which contributes to improving the critical thinking of elementary school students, and thus applied the program the developed program of improving the critical thinking to both preliminary and main experiments, which verified the effects of the test method. The following results have been acquired through this research : In the preliminary inspection that this researcher has developed, it was able to predict that 'the program which improves critical thinking' would have a positive influence on the students' critical thinking. In the main experiment which was performed after modifying and supplementing it, the result showed that the program had a positive influence on the students' critical thinking.
This research examined the Korean and American $6^{th}$ grade students' mathematical problem solving ability and methods via an intuitive thinking. For this, the survey research was used. The researcher developed the questionnaire which consists of problems with intuitive and algorithmic problem solving in number and operation, figure and measurement areas. 57 Korean $6^{th}$ grade students and 60 American $6^{th}$ grade students participated. The result of the analysis showed that Korean students revealed a higher percentage than American students in correct answers. But it was higher in the rate of Korean students attempted to use the algorithm. Two countries' students revealed higher rates in that they tried to solve the problems using intuitive thinking in geometry and measurement areas. Students in both countries showed the lower percentages of correct answer in problem solving to identify the impact of counterintuitive thinking. They were affected by potential infinity concept and the character of intuition in the problem solving process regardless of the educational environments and cultures.
Comparative studies on mathematical modeling cognition feature were carried out between 15 excellent high school third-grade science students (excellent students for short) and 15 normal ones (normal students for short) in China by utilizing protocol analysis and expert-novice comparison methods and our conclusions have been drawn as below. 1. In the style, span and method of mathematical modeling problem representation, both excellent and normal students adopted symbolic and methodological representation style. However, excellent students use mechanical representation style more often. Excellent students tend to utilize multiple-representation while normal students tend to utilize simplicity representation. Excellent students incline to make use of circular representation while normal students incline to make use of one-way representation. 2. In mathematical modeling strategy use, excellent students tend to tend to use equilibrium assumption strategy while normal students tend to use accurate assumption strategy. Excellent students tend to use sample analog construction strategy while normal students tend to use real-time generation construction strategy. Excellent students tend to use immediate self-monitoring strategy while normal students tend to use review-monitoring strategy. Excellent students tend to use theoretical deduction and intuitive judgment testing strategy while normal students tend to use data testing strategy. Excellent students tend to use assumption adjustment and modeling adjustment strategy while normal students tend to use model solving adjustment strategy. 3. In the thinking, result and efficiency of mathematical modeling, excellent students give brief oral presentations of mathematical modeling, express themselves more logically, analyze problems deeply and thoroughly, have multiple, quick and flexible thinking and the utilization of mathematical modeling method is shown by inspiring inquiry, more correct results and high thinking efficiency while normal students give complicated protocol material, express themselves illogically, analyze problems superficially and obscurely, have simple, slow and rigid thinking and the utilization of mathematical modeling method is shown by blind inquiry, more fixed and inaccurate thinking and low thinking efficiency.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of team-based learning using concept mapping on critical thinking disposition and metacognition on college of nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The experimental group was provided team-based learning using concept mapping. The control group was provided team-based learning. A total of 77 nursing students participated. Results: The experimental group increased significantly in critical thinking, however, there were no significant differences in critical thinking or metacognition between the two groups. The four essential themes extracted were as follows: (1) Expanding the scope of thinking; (2) Strengthening learning competency; (3) Enhancing communication skill; and (4) Burden of new learning method. Conclusion: The findings indicate that team-based learning using concept maps may be an effective teaching-learning method for nursing students.
This paper explores the educational method of using films as a means to cultivate critical thinking abilities for engineering students. It provides a practical educational model that elaborates on how films could be used as case studies to draw relevant questions, and in the process of answering them, develop students' ability to think critically. The educational model proposes a learning method of enhancing critical thinking abilities through debates and essay writing on issues raised in films. Furthermore, the paper entails concrete learning objectives on critical thinking education, and standards to evaluate levels of enhancement. Through raising the critical thinking abilities of engineering students, this paper will contribute to the utilization of creative ideas in the process of engineering research. Furthermore, the concept of utilizing films as a model for education used in this study could be adapted for fields other than that of engineering.
Purpose: This descriptive - comparison study was conducted to investigate the critical thinking disposition of senior nursing students in three types of nursing program. In this study, we developed a test tool to measure the computational thinking ability of middle school students and investigated their computational thinking power using the tool. The test tool used exploratory factor analysis to examine the computational thinking scales of Korkmaz et al. (2017) and derive suitable factors and questions for middle school students in Korea. The developed test tool was applied to 492 middle school students to analyze differences in computational thinking ability according to gender, grade, programming experience, type of programming language, and interest. According to the study, male Korean middle school students had higher computing power than females. In addition, students who had programming experience or used text-based rather than block-based programming languages demonstrated higher computational thinking. There was no significant difference in the computational thinking of middle school students according to grade, and the level of interest in artificial intelligence only had a slight influence on computational thinking.

This study aims to show how scientifically gifted students think in terms of Thinking Style Inventory based on Sternberg's theory of mental self-government and to examine the relationships between their thinking styles, intelligence and creativity. Two hundred and sixty-six middle school students (169 boys, 97 girls) who enrolled in a gifted education program participated in this study. Results indicated that scientifically gifted students prefer legislative, liberal, judical thinking styles, in comparison to general students, known to be related to creative and critical thinking rather than executive and conventional styles. There was no significant correlation between any of thinking style sub measures and Raven' Matrices and Scientific Aptitude Test, but some correlations were found among the sub measures of thinking style and TTCT. Whereas liberal students gained high originality scores, conventional students gained low fluency scores. Also, judical thinking style showed significant correlations with originality and flexibility TTCT sub scores. In sum, this study showed the characteristics of thinking styles of scientifically gifted students and provided implications for gifted education based on the findings presented.
To analyze the relationships between self-control, thinking quality and mathematical academic achievement, 197 senior school students were asked to complete questionnaires called "self-control ability on mathematics for middle school students" and "thinking quality for senior school students." The results were as follows: (1) There was strongly positive relevance between self-control ability, thinking quality and mathematical academic achievement. (2) A model was presented in which self-control ability had a direct impact on mathematical academic achievement, meanwhile had indirectly influenced mathematical academic achievement by thinking quality which acted as the intermediate variable. Thinking quality had a direct impact on mathematical academic achievement, too. (3) There's no significant difference between the two groups of boys and girls on the structural weights.
