In both countries, the average age of parents was 40's, and the ratio of the kinds of fathers' job was similar including 75% of full-time salaried workers, while that of mothers' in Japan was 63%, in Korea 23%. The male participation in cooking in both countries was found in younger generations and that of fathers and boys in Korea was significantly fewer than in Japan, which is regarded as the influence of Confucianism and employment of housekeepers. The figure of frequency of supper taken together daily was 27% in Japan and 54% in Korea where they didn't begin eating until all families gathered or the elders began. In Japan the civilities before and after meals were so often customarily expressed and they had the regular order of seats. The figure of frequency of taking meals with TV watching was about 45% in Japan of breakfast and supper and more than 30% in Korea of supper. As for the participation in cooking and table manners, national characteristics were clearly found out. In both countries, the newly modernized and democratized style of dietary behaviors was being made, rather sooner in Japan, out of the specific East-Asian traditional dining culture.

Suggesting a CNS role in Korean APN, areas of APN should be rearranged toclarify their roles and educational programs need to be further developed to meet the expectations and quality of APNs. It is necessary to ensure APN's employment in the health care system by laws and policies to perform advanced nursing roles.

  • Effective parenting attitudes have been known to be associated with children's health practices including dietary intake and physical activity. The objective of this study is to compare children's body weights and eating habits by maternal parenting attitudes. Data were collected at school (N = 396; 4th and 5th grade students) using self-administered questionnaires on maternal parenting attitudes, eating habits and physical activity. Parenting attitudes were categorized as 1 of 4 parenting attitudes (overprotective, authoritarian, democratic, and neglectful) using affection and control median cut points. Children's body weights, frequency of breakfast, eating out and fastfood, and physical activity were compared by maternal parenting attitudes. Children's body weights were related with mother's employment status (p < 0.05) and parenting attitudes (p < 0.01). Children of unemployed mothers were more likely to be overweight. Children of neglectful mothers (p < 0.01) were more likely to be underweight, compared with children of mothers with other parenting attitudes. Since, unfortunately, the number of children of neglectful mothers was very limited in this study, we could hardly assess eating habits of children of neglectful mothers. Children of authoritarian mothers ate breakfast more regularly (p < 0.05), but ate snacks less regularly (p < 0.01). Children of democratic mothers ate fastfood less frequently (p < 0.01) and ate snacks more regularly (p < 0.01). Meanwhile, children of overprotective mothers ate breakfast less regularly (p < 0.05) and ate out less frequently (p < 0.01). However, maternal parenting attitudes were not related to children's physical activities. In conclusion, the maternal democratic parenting attitude was associated with healthy eating habits including regular snack time and less fastfood. On the other hand, the maternal neglectful parenting attitude was associated with high risk of children's underweight. Understanding the mechanism through which parenting attitude is related with underweight risk and healthy eating habits may lead to the development of better interventions.

  • In this study, I examined the problems of the current barista curriculum and sought how to improve them by feedback from domestic specialized baristas and comparative analyses of the training programs that take place in barista educational institutions. In order to identify problems in curriculum and what to be improved, I gained the opinions of 15 experts who are currently teaching students in barista educational institutions using Delphi technique. To sum up the opinions of experts, working level education of coffee has to be mainly done and substantial educations for employment such as cafe operating technique and marketing are needed. In addition, experts suggested enhancing service courses considering the nature of working in contact with customers and the course for baking goods that takes up a lot of sales. As a result of examining the current curriculum in the institutions for baristas, it seems necessary to supplement these training courses that experts suggested because the educations are very poor.
