  • In this paper, we take into consideration the optimal cycle time in a kanban system. Even though there are many studios in the literature published in the past. It is rare to fine a paper dealing with kanban cycle time. We consider manufacturing structure configured in the real field and suggest kanban cycle time for the cases of linear, tree assembled, distributed, general and mixed structures. Also we give numerical example for each structure.

  • In this study, we estimate the multi-service cost function of Korea Telecom in order to characterize the cost structure of the telecommunication industry in Korea. By examining the cost function of Korea Telecom, we show that telecommunication costs of Korea Telecom are subadditive. Therefore, we conclude that a natural monopoly exists in the telecommunication industry in Korea.

  • This paper reports on a structural view of a knowledge network comprised of clubs and organisationsexpressly concerned with cultural activities in a regional Australian city. Social network analysis showed an uneven distribution of power, influence, and prominence in the network. The network structure consisted of two modules of vertices clustered around particular categories of creative arts and these modules were linked most frequently by several organisations acting as communication hubs and boundary spanners. The implications of the findings include 'network weaving' for improving the network structure and developing a systemic approach for exploring the structures of social action that form community-based knowledge networks.

  • We consider dynamic lot-sizing model with production time windows where each of n demands has earliest due date and latest due date and it must be satisfied during the given time window. For the case of nonspeculative cost structure, an O(nlog n) time procedure is developed and it is shown to run in O(n) when demands come in the order of latest due dates.

  • A multi-echelon structure of manufacturing and distribution system in considered, where the raw materials are transformed into a finished good through a number to manufacturing echelons and it is distributed to the lower echelons(retailers, or customers). The raw material, work-in-process, finished good inventory and the distribution costs are unified into one model. The objective is to determine the ordering policy of raw materials, manufacturing lot size, the number of sub-batch and the distribution policy of the finished good which minimize the annual total system cost. A computer program for a heuristic search technique is developed, by which a numerical example is examined.

  • The research analyzes structure models of Repeated Measurement Design (RMD) and Hierarchical Design (HD). The experimental unit of RMD model is living organisms, such as human. In contrast, HD is used when all the factors are random. The HD models are derived from R:B:A, R:C:B:A and R:C:($A{\times}B$).

  • The personal-computer software program named SAMS(Structural Aging Management System) was developed for the concrete structure of NPP(Nuclear Power Plant). SAMS is constituted of three part, detabase system containing various inspection data, operation program for standard input/output of the inspection data, and application program for efficient operation of database system. Using the SAMS, the field engineers can easily acquire the information about the various inspection data, repair and accidental histories of NPP structures. SAMS will contribute to the effcient maintenance of NPP structures.

  • The derived expressions and computations of the system reliability in the consecutive k out of n failure structure with sink-source pole are discussed and a new simplified formulation to compute the reliability of consecutive k out of $n^*$ failure system is presented, and the relations with system reliability when the number of first consecutive falied components from source is greater than k are presented in this paper. The new simplified formulation is illustrated in the numerical experiments.

  • This article is concerned with the importance of organisation management and its characteristics in business performance in SMEs, and tested by four main aspects: managerial strategies, organisational structure, leader behaviour, and R&D activities. These relationships were tested with questionnaire data from a random sample of 87 firms. Results from simple statistics on each issue showed that SMEs have focused on the corporate growth and management goals, the democratic leadership, decentralisation in organisational structure, and the technology development plans. Results from correlation analyses not only found significant relationships between managerial strategy and R&D activities but also showed differences in R&D activities according to structural status or leadership style, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the impacts of technological innovation and cost management on productivity in small shipping industries to come up with developmental implications. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to 150 workers in small shipbuilding industries through April 2 to April 20, 2012. As for findings stated above, technological innovation and cost management in the Korean small shipbuilding industries were key factors that elevate financial and non-financial productivity. In the light of low technological prowess and cost structure of small shipbuilding industries, their productivity can be improved when intensive cost management with production factor technology as know-how is realized through quality management, which product development technology is the top priority as an independent niche strategy. Consequently, the combination of infrastructures in small shipbuilding industries with continuous efforts for cost reduction by the link to the systematized structure can't only secure their independent competitiveness, but raise their productivity.
