  • On SWS 41 Plates jointed by the F11T M 20 high strength bolts the study on stress behavior and safety degree until rupture in static tensile tests were performed. By these results, in case of no clamping force stress concentration was extremed for strain of about 10% higher ratio. Elastic strain occurred to change of test specimens depth by the load and plastic strain occurred to local minute sleep after elastic strain. compared shear stress with tension stress from the fracture load it was showned lower values than the maximum shear stress theory and stress strain energy theory.

  • A vertical hot-firing test facility was established to carry out the IPPT(Integrated Propulsion Performance Test) and SQT(Stage Qualification Test) of KSR-III(Korea Sounding Rocket-III). The components for actual launcher were mostly used, hence these tests were carried out under the condition of relatively lower safety margin. To perform hot-firing tests with the maximum safety, an engine emergency blockage system was investigated and applied. An emergency blockage system using combustion chamber pressures and acceleration signals was set up to monitor ignition delay and fail, flame out, propellant feeding status, unstable combustion and excessive structural vibration. With such a system, the test safety could be secured by rapid judgement and follow-up measures, which made IPPT and SQT be safely completed.

  • The general requirements to achieve the structural integrity of the airframe are described in the military specification, MIL-HDBK-1530. One of these requirements is the durability and damage tolerance of the airframe, which should be shown through the analysis and test based on the related specifications. This paper describes the full scale durability test load simulation to evaluate the structural safety and durability of the advanced trainer, T-50. The test load simulation was performed according to the procedure in the military specification and the KAF contract requirements. The durability test design technique which involve the floating test set-up, the optimal test load simulation method, and the 6-DOF test article balance method to secure the real flight conditions as many as possible. It was confirmed that this method will be available in a similar full-scale airframe structural test in future.

  • Nuclear containment building is used as second blockage to protect us from a radiation leakage caused by the natural disaster or any accidents, so it's safety is important and must be kept with continuous surveillance. In this study, we measured the strain of a nuclear containment building's wall by using FBG sensor and investigated the structural safety of a nuclear containment building. 50 FBG strain sensors and 18 FBG strain sensors were attached on the side wall and upper dome of a nuclear containment building, respectively. We measured the strains of the outside concrete wall during the Structural Integrity Test (SIT) of a nuclear containment building. The strain of an upper dome was larger than that of a side wall, about $200{\mu}{\varepsilon}$. And the very small strain was measured at vertical direction of a side wall. These experimental results were used to evaluate the structural health of nuclear containment building.

  • PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system is a new transportation system which will meet increasing demands of traffic in Korea. It is also an environment-friendly transportation and automatically operated. For these reasons, researches on the PRT system are actively undergoing, but the PRT vehicles have different forms of subway, bus, etc. There are no design standards to evaluate structural integrity, yet. In this paper, Structural design specifications are derived, which are based on the performance test standard for EMU and the ASCE-APM standards. We also perform the static and fatigue analyses by FE simulation and suggest strategies to improve an initial structure design. In addition, we derived the design specifications for energy-absorbing structures to meet the conditions of the collision scenarios predefined from a view point of operation safety.

  • For towing the new type armored vehicle and maintaining the close support, the armored recovery vehicle(ARV) with winch and crane has been developed. In case of crane, it is mainly used to salvage heavy objects by rotational and vertical motion. Especially, the crane bracket is very important parts due to fixing the ARV's body and rotary joint and preventing the force rotation of crane. Therefore, the crane bracket needs to have an enough strength to endure the high load and it is very important to analyze the stress distribution under loads. In the present work, the experimental and analytical investigation on structural integrity evaluation of crane bracket were carried out. The simulation of three-dimensional finite element method(FEM) was compared with experimental datum. From the numerical results, the FEM simulations corresponded well with th experimental results and the structural safety was confirmed by safety factor.

  • Concrete filled steel hollow structural sections (CFSs) are an efficient, sustainable, and attractive option for both ambient temperature and fire resistance design of columns in multi-storey buildings and are becoming increasingly common in modern construction practice around the world. Whilst the design of these sections at ambient temperatures is reasonably well understood, and models to predict the strength and failure modes of these elements at ambient temperatures correlate well with observations from tests, this appears not to be true in the case of fire resistant design. This paper reviews available data from furnace tests on CFS columns and assesses the statistical confidence in available fire resistance design models/approaches used in North America and Europe. This is done using a meta-analysis comparing the available experimental data from large-scale standard fire tests performed around the world against fire resistance predictions from design codes. It is shown that available design approaches carry a very large uncertainty of prediction, suggesting that they fail to properly account for fundamental aspects of the underlying thermal response and/or structural mechanics during fire. Current North American fire resistance design approaches for CFS columns are shown to be considerably less conservative, on average, than those used in Europe.

  • In this study, a structural health monitoring system for cable-stayed bridges is developed. In the system, condition assessment of the structure is performed based on measured records from seismic accelerometers. Response indices are defined to monitor structural safety and serviceability and derived from the measured acceleration data. The derivation process of the indices is structured to follow the transformation from the raw data to the outcome. The process includes noise filtering, baseline correction, numerical integration, and calculation of relative differences. The system is packed as a condition assessment program, which consists of four major processes of the structural health evaluation: (i) format conversion of the raw data, (ii) noise filtering, (iii) generation of response indices, and (iv) condition evaluation. An example set of limit states is presented to evaluate the structural condition of the test-bed and cable-stayed bridge.

  • The structure of PSC box girder with FRP strut has a form of supporting the cantilever part in the widened upper slab by modifying the existing PSC box girder efficiently, and it is able to build an economical and aesthetically pleasing bridge as it reduces the size of the lower structure by reducing the self-weight of the upper structure. In this research, loading test of PSC Box Girder using full-scale mock-up was conducted and FEM analysis was performed. By comparing results, structural safety of the FRP strut and the upper slab following application of the strut in the PSC Box Girder Bridge were evaluated.

  • This study was carried out to make fundamental data for structural safety test of pipe- houses. Experiment on the stress distribution of pipe- houses was conducted to find suitable structural analysis model by examination of end support conditions of pipe. Besides, the loading test and the pile driving test were done to find pull-out capacity and bearing capacity of pipe on the assumption that pipe is pile foundation. For single span pipe - house, the theoretical results assuming the end support condition of pipe is fixed under ground agreed closely with the experimental results of stress distribution. On the other hand for double span pipe -house, the end support conditions of pipe were fixed support when vertical load is applied, and hinged one when horizontal load is applied. The pull - out capacity and allowable bearing capacity of the pipe portion that was buried in the grounds that were soft soil of paddy field and medium or hard soils of dry field derived from experimental results.
