Modern seismic codes rely on performance-based seismic design methodology which requires that the structures withstand inelastic deformation. Many studies have focused on the inelastic deformation ratio evaluation (ratio between the inelastic and elastic maximum lateral displacement demands) for various inelastic spectra. This paper investigates the inelastic response spectra through the ductility demand ${\mu}$, the yield strength reduction factor $R_y$, and the inelastic deformation ratio. They depend on the vibration period T, the post-to-preyield stiffness ratio ${\alpha}$, the peak ground acceleration (PGA), and the normalized yield strength coefficient ${\eta}$ (ratio of yield strength coefficient divided by the PGA). A new inelastic deformation ratio $C_{\eta}$ is defined; it is related to the capacity curve (pushover curve) through the coefficient (${\eta}$) and the ratio (${\alpha}$) that are used as control parameters. A set of 140 real ground motions is selected. The structures are bilinear inelastic single degree of freedom systems (SDOF). The sensitivity of the resulting inelastic deformation ratio mean values is discussed for different levels of normalized yield strength coefficient. The influence of vibration period T, post-to-preyield stiffness ratio ${\alpha}$, normalized yield strength coefficient ${\eta}$, earthquake magnitude, ruptures distance (i.e., to fault rupture) and site conditions is also investigated. A regression analysis leads to simplified expressions of this inelastic deformation ratio. These simplified equations estimate the inelastic deformation ratio for structures, which is a key parameter for design or evaluation. The results show that, for a given level of normalized yield strength coefficient, these inelastic displacement ratios become non sensitive to none of the rupture distance, the earthquake magnitude or the site class. Furthermore, they show that the post-to-preyield stiffness has a negligible effect on the inelastic deformation ratio if the normalized yield strength coefficient is greater than unity.
Nowadays, there are a great number of various structures that have been retrofitted by using different FRP Composites. Due to this, more researches need to be conducted to know more the characteristics of these structures, not only that but also a comparison among them before and after the retrofitting is needed. In this research, a model steel structure is tested using a bench-scale earthquake simulator on the shake table, using recorded micro tremor data, in order to get the dynamic behaviors. Beams of the model steel structure are then retrofitted by using CFRP composite, and then tested on the Quanser shake table by using the recorded micro tremor data. At this stage, it is needed to evaluate the dynamic behaviors of the retrofitted model steel structure. Various types of methods of OMA, such as EFDD, SSI, etc. are used to take action in the ambient responses. Having a purpose to learn more about the effects of FRP composite, experimental model analysis of both types (retrofitted and no-retrofitted models) is conducted to evaluate their dynamic behaviors. There is a provision of ambient excitation to the shake table by using recorded micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level. Furthermore, the Enhanced Frequency Domain decomposition is used through output-only modal identification. At the end of this study, moderate correlation is obtained between mode shapes, periods and damping ratios. The aim of this research is to show and determine the effects of CFRP Composite implementation on structural responses of the model steel structure, in terms of changing its dynamical behaviors. The frequencies for model steel structure and the retrofitted model steel structure are shown to be 34.43% in average difference. Finally, it is shown that, in order to evaluate the period and rigidity of retrofitted structures, OMA might be used.

A speaker diaphragm generates a divided vibration. The influence of the break-up mode is sufficient to cause a shape change in the diaphragm. In this paper, is widely used in ultra-thin multi-media devices, including smart phones is the advance guard of the IT sector, the micro-speakers and its target. Micro-speakers are different from general speakers. The plate has structural form and space constraints. In particular, they utilize a closed-type drive space. It is difficult to provide cooling for the auxiliary suspension structure because of the heat generated in the moving coil. The present study considered the relationship between the break-up mode and the heat transfer of the diaphragm. An experiment was conducted in two stages to compare the embodiment of the break-up mode and heat transfer in a certain frequency range. The changes in the heat were determined through measurements and thermal imaging of the break-up mode. The break-up mode tendency of the diaphragm could be rapidly predicted based on the imaging results using the thermal imaging camera. This will help in the optimal design of micro-speakers.
The purpose of this study is to prepare GPTMS((3-Glycidoxypropyl) trimethoxysilane)-SiO2 nanofluid and analyze the effect of nanofluid injection on carbonate reservoirs. Structural analysis of silica nanoparticles modified by GPTMS was investigated by FTIR(Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). C-H stretching vibrations at 2,950 cm-1 indicating the silica surface modification with GPTMS were observed when the silane feed was over 0.5 mmol/g. Also, the coreflooding test by nanofluid injection on the aged limestone and dolomite plug samples was carried out with different particle concentration and flow rate. The incremental oil recovery was up to 18.9%, and contact angle and permeability of carbonate samples were changed by the effect of nanoparticle adsorption on pore which caused wettability alteration and pore size change. Therefore, the prepared nanofluid will be utilized as an injection fluid for enhancing oil recovery and modifying fluid flow properties such as change of rock wettability and permeability in carbonate reservoirs.

This research introduces the structural design and the validation results of the flexible high speed coupling for 2MW class wind turbine which transmit and cut off torque between gear box and generator. The high speed coupling requires electrical insulation to prevent electrical surface damages on gear box. Therefore glass fiber reinforced plastics is applied to absorb the vibration and deformation of power train and to transmit required torque. Finite element analysis was performed to optimize the thickness and accumulation number of glass fiber reinforced plastics. Torque limiter which cut off the abnormal torque is designed in frictional disc type. The design of the coupling was validated with the performance test of prototype.
In the present study, a suitable mathematical model considering parabolic transverse shear strains for dynamic analysis of laminated composite skew plates under different types of impulse and spatial loads was presented for the first time. The proposed mathematical model satisfies zero transverse shear strain at the top and bottom of the plate. On the basis of the cubic variation of thickness coordinate in in-plane displacement fields of the present mathematical model, a 2D finite element (FE) model was developed including skew transformations in the mathematical model. No shear correction factor is required in the present formulation and damping effect was also incorporated. This is the first FE implementation considering a cubic variation of thickness coordinate in in-plane displacement fields including skew transformations to solve the forced vibration problem of composite skew plates. The effect of transverse shear and rotary inertia was incorporated in the present model. The Newmark-${\beta}$ scheme was adapted to perform time integration from step to step. The $C^0$ FE formulation was implemented to overcome the problem of $C^1$ continuity associated with the cubic variation of thickness coordinate in in-plane displacement fields. The numerical studies showed that the present 2D FE model predicts the result close to the analytical results. Many new results varying different parameter such as skew angles, boundary conditions, etc. were presented.

The permanent magnet linear synchronous motors facilitate maintenance, for it is structurally simple compare to rotating machine and has lots of advantage such as a precision control, high speed, high thrust and so on. However, it causes an increase of material cost because of structural characteristics that need to arranges the armature on the full length of transportation lines. Thus, in order to resolve this problem, we propose the discontinuous arrangement method of the armature but the edge always exists due to the structure when the armature is arranged discontinuously. Due to this edge, the cogging force is greatly generated and it causes thrust force ripple generating noise, vibration and decline of performance. Therefore, in this paper, we examined the characteristic of end edge according to the skew angle through 3-D numerical analysis using finite element method(FEM) and improved the operation characteristics.
In case that an infinite length waveguide structure is connected with a finite length structure, it is required to combine a wave approach for the waveguide structure and a modal approach for the finite length structure to investigate the dynamic response of the connected target structure. In this study, the wavenumber finite element (WFE) analysis is adopted for the infinite length waveguide substructure and a finite element (FE) method is applied for the finite length substructure and then their results are coupled in terms of the impedance or mobility at the connected points between the substructures. As a structural model, an infinite length cylindrical shell with a rectangular plate inside is regarded. These two substructures are connected at the four corner points of the plate, rigidly or resiliently. From this investigation, it was confirmed that the wave approach (WFE method) and modal approach (FE method) can be combined by the impedance coupling.

For achieving economical fuel consumption, an increase in the load bearing capacity, and for environmental conservation, there is a constant demand for lightweight frames of commercial vehicles used in the transportation industry. In this study, a structural analysis of the frame of a heavy flat-bed trailer was performed to determine the optimal design of a new lightweight frame made of high-strength steel. To identify the key design parameters of the trailer frame, Taguchi's orthogonal array was used in the experiments. Using ANSYS, a commercial FEA program, the frame structure was optimized with respect to stress, deflection, and torsional stiffness by performing stress and vibration analyses. A physical model of the trailer was also built to verify the validity of the numerical analyses. Finally, an on-road fatigue test of the new lightweight frame made of the high-strength steel, ATOS80, was performed to confirm the durability of the new design.
