  • Steel braced frames retrofit method has been broadly used due to their effectiveness in both light weight and construction periods. However, steel braced frames retrofit method has difficulties in application on the inner frames of buildings to be retrofitted consequently, there have been demands for the braced frames retrofit method that can be broadly and easily applicable to both inner and outer frames of the buildings. The objective of this study is to develop and evaluate the seismic retrofit method applicable to the inner frame also by dividing the reinforcing frames into three unit. From the cyclic test of specimens, the test results dearly showed that steel brace using HPFRCCs and steel bars ensure the better cyclic compressive performance than the normal braced members.

  • In recent years, advances in construction techniques and materials have given rese to flexible light-weight structures like high-rise buildings and long-span bridges. Because these structures extremely susceptible to environmental loads, such as earthquakes and strong winds, these random loadings usually produce large deflection and acceleration on these structures. Vibration control system of structures are becoming an integral part of the structural system of the next generation of tall building. The proposed control system is applied to single degree of structure with mass damping and compared with conventional PID and neural network PID control system.

  • Recently, swash plate type hydraulic axial piston motors/pumps are being extensively used in the world, because of simple design, light weight and effective cost. Structural problem of the swash plate type motor/pump is that tilting angle of swash plate should be limited to relatively small value and lateral farce on pistons has an undesirable effect in reciprocating motion. To solve these problems, piston rod mechanism, which is commonly used in bent axis type motor/pump, is considered to be applied to the swash plate type motor/pump. In this paper, kinematic analysis was done on the piston rod mechanism. A series of formula were derived and numerical calculations were done for a set of motor parameters.

  • Chemical structure and electrical characteristics of 5 commercial crosslinked polyethylenes (XLPE) used as insulating materials for medium voltage distribution power cables in Korea were investigated. It was found that each XLPE shows different properties depending on the type of XLPE. Chemical structural irregularities of pellets change considerably by crossliking reaction, with some irregularities being disappeared after crosslikeng reaction. It was also found through a solvent extraction study that additives such as crosslinking agent and antioxidants act as major source retarding water tree growth. Low molecular weight polyethylene chains plays a different role in water tree growth of XLPE.

  • This study is corroborated as a fundamental resource to develop structural lightweight paste containing silica fume as a part of cement. Paste using foaming agent is generated much foam and decreased density of paste. This study is measured at 0.8% of foaming agent dosage but over 0.8% of foaming agent dosage raise density of paste because of interconnection with foam. Also, FEM analysis using SEM image is confirmed correspondence of between Elastic modulus of experiment and FEM analysis.

  • The Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV) ORF80 (ha80) has 765 bp encoding a protein with approximately 254 amino acids and a predicted molecular weight of 30.8 kDa. Homologues of ha80 are found in most baculovirus sequences, including those from lepidopteran NPVs, lepidopteran granuloviruses (GVs), hymenopteran baculoviruses, and one dipteran baculovirus, yet their functions remain unclear. In this study we characterized ha80, and showed that it was transcribed late in infected host cells (HzAM1). The product of ha80 was a 31 kDa protein that was not a structural protein of budded virus (BV) or occlusion-derived virus (ODV) particles. Ha80 was first detected in the cytoplasm of infected HzAM1 cells at 12 h p.i., and was observed in the nucleus at later stages of infection, suggesting that it may be involved in transporting viral proteins into the host cell nucleus or play its roles in the nucleus.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes of thermal properties such as warmth retaining and contact warm/cool feeling of commercial dress shirts by repeated washing and drying by sun and dryer. Three kinds of fabrics such as cotton 100%, cotton/polyester 80/20% and polyester 100% were repeatedly washed and dried, and then used as specimen. Thermo Labo II type was employed to measure the thermal properties. At the same time, structural properties such as thickness, weight, bulk density, porosity, moisture vapor permeability and air permeability were analysed.

  • Weight reduction of the carbody is of great concern in developing high speed tilting train. Currently the composite materials are widely applied to the carbody structure due to their excellent material properties such as high specific strength and stiffness characteristics. In this paper, finite element analysis was conducted to design sandwich structures of composite carbody of the Korean Tilting Train eXpress(TTX). Several load tests on the carbody according to JIS E 7105, such as static vertical, compressive and torsional load tests was performed by finite element analysis, and the structural safety of composite carbody structure was verified.

  • A cyclocopter with the cycloidal blades system can be the type of UAV which can combine the high-speed characteristics of the conventional airplane with the low-speed characteristics of the helicopter. The cycloidal blades system, which can be described as a horizontal rotary wing, offers powerful thrust levels, and a unique ability to change the direction of the thrust almost instantly. Rotor blades are designed to withstand tremendous transverse centrifugal loadings, and responding to a number of aerodynamic harmonic vibratory forcing frequencies. To reduce the weight and increase the strength, the blades are made of composite materials. The blades consist of the skin, spar, and trailing stiffener. In this study, static and dynamic behaviors of cyclocopter rotor blades are analyzed by using MSC/NASTRAN.

  • Fiber placement system (FPS) carries out an advanced composites process which orients high strength reinforcing fibers in specific directions. The process includes wet winding, thermoset tape winding, thermoset prepreg placement and thermoplastic prepreg placement. FPS have the advantage of tape laying and filament winding with computer control and software. Using FPS can reduce costs, cycle times, structural weight, and handwork/rework when manufacturing composite parts. The sleeve extension is a part of the helicopter rotator systems. In this study, The sleeve extension composites were manufactured using FPS and tensile properties of this composites were characterized using universal testing machine(UTM).
