  • An explosion from a specific source can generate high pressure, causing damage to structures and people in and around them. For the design of protective structures, although explosion overpressure is considered the main loading parameter, parts are only considered using standard design procedures, excluding special installations. Properties of the explosive, such as molecular structure, shape, dimensional properties, and the physical state of the charge, determine the results in a high-grade or low-grade explosion. In this context, it is very important to determine the explosion behaviors of the structures and to take precautions against these behaviors. Especially structures in areas with high explosion risk should be prepared for blast loads. In this study, the behavior of non-anchored blast resistant modular buildings was investigated. In the study, analyzes were carried out for cases where modular buildings were first positioned on a reinforced concrete surface and then directly on the ground. For these two cases, the behavior of the modular structure placed on the reinforced concrete floor against burst loads was evaluated with Stribeck curves. The behavior of the modular building placed directly on the ground is examined with the Pais and Kausel equations, which consider the structure-ground interaction. In the study, head and neck injuries were examined by placing test dummies to examine human injury behavior in modular buildings exposed to blast loads. Obtained results were compared with field tests. In both cases, results close to field tests were obtained. Thus, it was concluded that Stribeck curves and Pais Kausel equations can reflect the behavior of modular buildings subjected to blast loads. It was also seen at the end of the study that the human injury criteria were met. The results of the study are explained with their justifications.

  • In jet engines, turbine blade cooling has an extremely important role. The pin-fin array, which is situated close to the trailing edge of the blade, aids in internal cooling of the gas turbine blades and preserves the structural integrity of the blade. Previous studies often focused on pin-fin configurations, but the current research focuses on improving the geometry at the endwalls to reduce wake vortices behind the pin-fins and enhance heat transfer at the endwalls location. Using the k-ω turbulence model, a numerical study was conducted on a ribbed shape situated on the walls between pin-fin arrays, spanning a Reynolds number range of 7400 to 36000, in order to determine the heat transport characteristics. The heat transfer efficiency coefficient and Nusselt number increase dramatically with the revised wall configuration, according to the numerical data. The channel's heat transfer efficiency is increased by enlarging the heat transfer areas near the pin-fins and by the interaction of the flow with the endwalls. The addition of ribs causes the Nusselt number of the new model to climb from 78% to 96% at the previously given Reynolds numbers, and the heat transfer efficiency index to rise from 60% to 73%. The height (Hr), position (Lr), forward width (Wf), and backward width (Wb) of the ribs are among the geometric elements that were looked at in order to determine how they affected the performance of heat transmission. In comparison to the reference design, the parametric study results demonstrate that the best forward width (Wf/R=18.75%) and backward width (Wb/R=31.25%) increase the heat transfer efficiency index by 0.4% and 1.3%, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how supply chain digital transformation affects corporate performance by building supply chain agility and innovation capabilities based on the resource-based view (RBV) theory. The model was verified using structural equation modeling based on a data set of 271 domestic companies, and mediation and moderation analyzes were performed to test the research hypotheses. The study found a positive correlation between supply chain digital transformation and corporate performance that is fully mediated by both supply chain agility and innovation capability, with the potential for the interaction between supply chain agility and innovation capability to have adverse consequences for corporate performance. This study is expected to advance our understanding on the antecedents of corporate performance by integrating supply chain digital transformation and the mediating mechanisms of supply chain agility and innovation capabilities that serve as a conduit between supply chain digital transformation and RBV-based corporate performance.

  • In recent decades the strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) structural elements using Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) has received much attention. The behavior of RC elements can vary from axial compression to pure bending, depending on their loading. When the compressive behavior is dominant, the FRP jacket application is common, but when the flexural behavior is prevalent, the codes consider the FRP jacket ineffective. Codes suggest applying FRP bars or strips as Near-surface Mounted (NSM) or Externally Bonded (EB) in the tensile face to strengthen the beams under flexure. To strengthen the columns in tension-control mode, some researchers have suggested NSM FRP bars in both tension and compression faces alone or with the FRP jacket (hybrid). However, the number of tests that evaluate the pure bending of the strengthened columns as one of the pivotal points of the axial force-moment interaction curve is limited. In this paper, 11 RC elements strengthened using the NSM (in both tension and compression faces) or hybrid method were subjected to bending to assess the effect of the amount and material type of the FRP bar and jacket and the dimensions of the groove. The test results revealed that the NSM method increased the flexural capacity of the members between 10% to 50%. Furthermore, using the hybrid method increased the capacity between 51% to 91%. Finally, an analytical model was presented considering the effect of the NSM FRP bond in different circumstances, and its results were in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this study, we designed and verified a research model that identifies the correlation between public library organizational justice, the engagement of service contact members, and user orientation. First, distributive justice was found to have a positive effect on engagement. Second, interaction justice was found to have a positive effect on engagement. Third, procedural justice was found to have a positive effect on user orientation. Fourth, engagement was found to have a positive effect on user orientation. As a result of structural equation model analysis, it was analyzed that engagement had a greater influence on user orientation. Service contact members who have the attitude of having organizational members take voluntary and self-sacrificing actions in library operation and are willing to be positively immersed in their work can take user-oriented actions that provide services with users as the top priority. Because the possibility is high. It has practical significance in that it suggests strategies and improvement plans that can be helpful to libraries.

  • Rhamnolipid (RL) is renowned for its efficacy in bioremediating several types of organic and metal contaminants. Nevertheless, there has been a scarcity of studies specifically examining the relationship between this substance and metals, especially in terms of their impact on RL formation and the underlying interaction processes. This study addresses this gap by investigating the RL mechanism in Cr (VI) remediation and evaluating its effect on RL production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa RW9. In this study, P. aeruginosa RW9 was grown in the presence of 10 mg l-1 Cr (VI). We monitored RL yield, congeners distribution, and their ratios, as well as the transcriptional expression of the RL-encoded genes: rhlA, rhlB, and rhlC. Our results revealed that RL effectively reduced Cr (VI) to Cr (III), with RL yield increasing threefold, although with a slight delay in synthesis compared to control cells. Furthermore, Cr (VI) exposure induced the transcriptional expression of the targeted genes, leading to a significant increase in di-RL production. The findings confirm that Cr (VI) significantly impacts RL production, altering its structural compositions and enhancing the transcriptional expression of RL-encoded genes in P. aeruginosa RW9. This study represents a novel exploration of Cr (VI)'s influence on RL production, providing valuable insights into the biochemical pathways involved and supporting the potential of RL in Cr (VI) bioremediation.

  • The inhibitors against Vibrio harveyi quorum sensing (QS) signaling were developed by modifying the molecular structure of the major signal, N-3-hydroxybutanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (3-OH-$C_4$-HSL). A series of structural derivatives, N-(3-hydroxysulfonyl)-L-homoserine lactones (HSHLs) were synthesized by the solid-phase organic synthesis method. The in vivo QS inhibition by these compounds was measured by a bioassay system using the V. harveyi bioluminescence, and all showed significant inhibitory effects. To analyze the interaction between these compounds and LuxN, a 3-OH-$C_4$-HSL receptor protein of V. harveyi, we tentatively determined the putative signal binding domain of LuxN based on the sequence homology with other acyl-HSL binding proteins, and predicted the partial 3-D structure of the putative signal binding domain of LuxN by using ORCHESTRA program, and further estimated the binding poses and energies (docking scores) of 3-OH-$C_4$-HSL and HSHLs within the domain. In comparison of the result from this modeling study with that of in vivo bioassay, we suggest that the in silica interpretation of the interaction between ligands and their receptor proteins can be a valuable way to develop better competitive inhibitors, especially in the case that the structural information of the protein is limited.

  • Many firms in Korea have adopted and used advanced information technology in an effort to boost efficiency. The process of adapting to the new technology, at the same time, can vary from one firm to another. As such, this research focuses on several relevant factors, especially the roles of social interaction as a key variable that influences the technology adaptation process and the outcomes. Thus far, how a firm goes through the adaptation process to the new technology has not been yet fully explored. Previous studies on changes undergone by a firm or an organization due to information technology have been pursued from various theoretical points of views, evolved from technological and institutional views to an integrated social technology views. The technology adaptation process has been understood to be something that evolves over time and has been regarded as cycles between misalignments and alignments, gradually approaching the stable aligned state. The adaptation process of the new technology was defined as "appropriation" process according to Poole and DeSanctis (1994). They suggested that this process is not automatically determined by the technology design itself. Rather, people actively select how technology structures should be used; accordingly, adoption practices vary. But concepts of the appropriation process in these studies are not accurate while suggested propositions are not clear enough to apply in practice. Furthermore, these studies do not substantially suggest which factors are changed during the appropriation process and what should be done to bring about effective outcomes. Therefore, research objectives of this study lie in finding causes for the difference in ways in which advanced information technology has been used and adopted among organizations. The study also aims to explore how a firm's interaction with social as well as technological factors affects differently in resulting organizational changes. Detail objectives of this study are as follows. First, this paper primarily focuses on the appropriation process of advanced information technology in the long run, and we look into reasons for the diverse types of the usage. Second, this study is to categorize each phases in the appropriation process and make clear what changes occur and how they are evolved during each phase. Third, this study is to suggest the guidelines to determine which strategies are needed in an individual, group and organizational level. For this, a substantially grounded theory that can be applied to organizational practice has been developed from a longitudinal comparative case study. For these objectives, the technology appropriation process was explored based on Structuration Theory by Giddens (1984), Orlikoski and Robey (1991) and Adaptive Structuration Theory by Poole and DeSanctis (1994), which are examples of social technology views on organizational change by technology. Data have been obtained from interviews, observations of medical treatment task, and questionnaires administered to group members who use the technology. Data coding was executed in three steps following the grounded theory approach. First of all, concepts and categories were developed from interviews and observation data in open coding. Next, in axial coding, we related categories to subcategorize along the lines of their properties and dimensions through the paradigm model. Finally, the grounded theory about the appropriation process was developed through the conditional/consequential matrix in selective coding. In this study eight hypotheses about the adaptation process have been clearly articulated. Also, we found that the appropriation process involves through three phases, namely, "direct appropriation," "cooperate with related structures," and "interpret and make judgments." The higher phases of appropriation move, the more users represent various types of instrumental use and attitude. Moreover, the previous structures like "knowledge and experience," "belief that other members know and accept the use of technology," "horizontal communication," and "embodiment of opinion collection process" are evolved to higher degrees in their dimensions of property. Furthermore, users continuously create new spirits and structures, while removing some of the previous ones at the same time. Thus, from longitudinal view, faithful and unfaithful appropriation methods appear recursively, but gradually faithful appropriation takes over the other. In other words, the concept of spirits and structures has been changed in the adaptation process over time for the purpose of alignment between the task and other structures. These findings call for a revised or extended model of structural adaptation in IS (Information Systems) literature now that the vague adaptation process in previous studies has been clarified through the in-depth qualitative study, identifying each phrase with accuracy. In addition, based on these results some guidelines can be set up to help determine which strategies are needed in an individual, group, and organizational level for the purpose of effective technology appropriation. In practice, managers can focus on the changes of spirits and elevation of the structural dimension to achieve effective technology use.

  • Consumers' overall satisfaction on a specific library use is inferred to be primarily accrued from their performance perception and use satisfaction on the library information service system as recent information technology is being rapidly improved and more libraries are being equipped with advanced information technologies. However, prior research has been conducted only on general library service quality and visitors' satisfaction, leaving the important aspects of visitors' library use and information performance perception. Thus, the objectives of this research are to examine the effect of library use patterns such as general visit for book reading and more professional information search, coupled with service quality, on the library users' performance perception on the information system that in turn, affects library use satisfaction on the same information system. More specifically, this study examines whether library visitors perceive differenltly the information system performance according to their library use patterns such that professional library users may have less positive on information system service due to their higher expectation or more positive perception on it due to variety of information uses and positive judgment on advanced information system. Next, three dimensions of service quality, consisting of interaction, outcome, and physical evidence quality in visitors' library use situations, are hypothesized to affect performance perception on library information system. Thirdly, the performance perception on library information system is hypothesized to influence the system use satisfaction while these two constructs are to affect visitors' overall satisfaction. we develop the following research model in accordance with the above theoretical reasoning. All variables used in this study(General Use Patterns, Professional Use Patterns, Interaction Quality, Outcome Quality, Physical Evidence Quality, Information Performance Perception, Information Use Satisfaction, Overall Satisfaction) were defined operationally based on the underlying prior studies. A survey was conducted with prepared questionnaires to about 400 visitors of a specific university library. Among them, 353 proper questionnaires were finally used for the analyses. Two-step approach was used to test the hypotheses. First, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to guarantee the validity and reliability of variables. The results showed that all variables had not only convergent and discriminant validity, but also reliability. Then, research model was examined with a structural equation using LISREL 8.30 version. The fitness of the research model was found to be within the acceptable level. The findings of this study are as follows. The professional library use pattern was found to affect the users' performance perception on the library information system while the general library use pattern was not. Second, three dimensions of service quality (interaction, outcome, physical evidence) were found to influence the information system performance respectively while none of them was not to information use satisfaction. Third, library users' performance perception on the information system operation was found to affect the information system use satisfaction, both of which also influence users' overall satisfaction of the library. The findings of this study suggest that contemporary libraries strengthen their advanced information system operation in a way of user orientation and more importantly maximize their visitors' utilization of information system, accompanying proper material and various program development. This study conceptualized the new constructs of library users' performance perception on the information system and information use satisfaction which could better explain library users' overall satisfaction. Thus, furture study related with library service could utilize the constructs of information system performance and satisfaction as well as the variety of library use patterns in the users' viewpoints.
