  • This paper describes the development and assessment of conductive fabric sensor for evaluating knee movement using bio-impedance measurement method. The proposed strip-typed conductive fabric sensor is compared with a dot-typed Ag/AgCl electrode for evaluating validity under knee movement condition. Subjects are composed of ten males($26.6{\pm}2.591$) who have not had problems on their knee. The strip-typed conductive fabric sensor is analyzed by correlation and reliability between a dot-typed Ag/AgCl electrode and the strip-typed conductive fabric sensor. The difference of bio-impedance between a dot-typed Ag/AgCl electrode and the strip-typed conductive fabric sensor averages $7.067{\pm}13.987\;{\Omega}$ As the p-value is under 0.0001 in 99% of t-distribution, the strip-typed conductive fabric sensor is correlated with a dot-typed Ag/AgCl electrode by SPSS software. The strip-typed conductive fabric sensor has reliability when it is compared with a dot-typed Ag/AgCl electrode because most of bio-impedance values are in ${\pm}1.96$ standard deviation by Bland-Altman Analysis. As a result, the strip-typed conductive fabric sensor can be used for assessing knee movement through bio-impedance measurement method as a dot-typed Ag/AgCl electrode. Futhermore, the strip-typed conductive fabric sensor is available for wearable circumstances, applications and industries in the near future.

  • In this paper, we developed an electrochemical glucose sensor strip using a paper substrate. The paper glucose sensor strip is eco-friendly because it uses paper as a substrate, and it has the advantage that it can be manufactured only with four printing, drying and cutting processes. The paper glucose sensor is significantly simplified by the production process than the conventional glucose sensors because the production of only four printing on the paper substrate. In this paper, eco-friendly tracing paper was used to develop a paper glucose sensor strip, and screen-printing technology was used to form a carbon/silver electrode, insulating layer and glucose oxidase(GOD) layer. The developed paper glucose sensor strip has a flat structure with a size of 30 × 4.6 ㎟, and blood injection is a type of direct contact with the exposed enzyme layer above the strip. In this paper, the performance of paper glucose sensor strips was evaluated by analyzing the cyclic voltammetry(CV) and chronoamperometry(CA) characteristics.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to develop a lateral flow strip sensor for the detection of pathogenic Escherichia coli O157:H7 in various samples. Also, feasibility of using an image analysis method to improve the interpretation of the strip sensor was evaluated. Methods: The lateral flow strip sensor has been fabricated based on nitrocellulose lateral-flow membrane. Colloidal gold and E. coli O157:H7 antibodies were used as a tag and a receptor, respectively. Manually spotted E. coli O157:H7 antibody and anti-mouse antibody on nitrocellulose membrane were used as test and control dots, respectively. Feasibility of the lateral flow strip sensor to detect E. coli O157:H7 were evaluated with serially diluted E. coli O157:H7 cells in PBS or food samples. Test results of the lateral flow strip sensor were measured with an image analysis method. Results: The intensity of the test dot started to increase with higher concentration of the cells were introduced. The sensitivities of the sensor were both $10^4$ CFU/mL Escherichia coli O157:H7 spiked in PBS and in chicken meat extract, respectively. Conclusions: The lateral flow strip sensor and image analysis method could detect E. coli O157:H7 in 20 min, which is significantly quicker than conventional plate counting method.

  • Recently, it is required to develop a monitoring technology that combines an FBG sensor as a means for continuously monitoring whether reinforcing effect of FRP is maintained on FRP reinforced structural members. However, most existing researches focus on the insertion of FBG sensors into bar-shaped FRPs, and there is insufficient study on the details strip-type FRPs combined with FBG sensors. Therefore, in this paper, it is studied to develop a reinforcement in which a FBG sensor is combined with a FRP strip. Especially, combination of FRP and FBG sensor. For this, a series of experiments were performed to find the adhesive strength of fiber-FRP-epoxy joints, the tensile strength of FBG sensor part with reflection-lattice, and the performance depending on the connection method of FRF and FBG sensor. As a result of the study, it was found that a minimum strength of $216.15N/mm^2$ is required for incorporating FBG sensors in FRP using epoxy. It is considered that the adhesion length of epoxy joints should be more than 50mm. When the FBG sensor is attached to the FRP strip as an epoxy, it is considered appropriate to use the complete attachment and the sensor non-attachment method.

  • Sensor modeling is the basic step to extract and to use the information from satellite images. Sensor modeling requires ground control points. If we use a single image, we have limitations on modeling about images captured from regions that we can not approach or take GCPs. In this research, we use strip images to do sensor modeling by two methods. At first, we apply sensor modeiling to single image and apply the results by extrapolation. Next, we consider strip images to single image. As a result, we find the second method is more accurate about whole image.

  • High sensitivity magnetic sensor having foreign metal detection capability is proposed utilizing giant magneto-impedance effect. Strip sensor showed the increasing output voltage when the external magnetic field was applied along with strip from strip grounding point, although the initial DC voltage varied depending on the pointing direction of strip sensor. Proposed sensor was able to eliminate more than half of background noise using active noise filter to achive high sensitivity, and it showed the capability to detect magnetized foreign metal object independent of ambient electro-magnetic noise and earth magnet. In case of ferrous sphere, the metal detection up to 0.8mm diameter was experimentally demonstrated at 5mm distance from strip sensor.

  • This study introduced the development of a strip type disposable enzyme-linked immunosensor platform for the detection of IgG. Strips of the strip sensor were fabricated by using commercial nitrocellulose filter membranes and a housing holder for the strips was manufactured by using a standard injection molding process for a plastic material. An IgG-urease conjugate was prepared and used for the competitive immune-binding with sample IgG. From the enzymatic reaction between the conjugated urease and urea added, ammonia was generated and caused a localized alkaline pH change on the immobilized antibody band which was coated onto the sensor strips. This pH increase subsequently caused a color change of the antibody band in the presence of a pH indicator, phenol red. Used in conjunction with a competitive immunoassay format, the intensity of the color produced is directly linked with the concentration of target analyte, IgG, and specific measurement of IgG in a lateral flow immunoassay format was achieved over the range 100 ppb to 2000 ppb IgG.

  • In continuous galvanizing process at steel making plant, coating weight on the surface of strip that pass through air knife is controlled by the pressure at the chamber of air knife and the gap between the nozzle of air knife and strip. The pressure can be easily measured and controlled. But it is difficult to measure the distance between Air knife nozzle and strip, and also difficult to decide how much distance air knife move. Because, the gap between nozzle and strip varies with the height of air knife, intermesh of stabilizing roll and welding of strips that have different thickness. In this research, we developed a gap sensor that can measure the relative distance between Air knife nozzle and strip. And several tests are performed to find optimal condition for application at real plant. We performed test in which the possibility of the sensor to apply ...

  • Currently, a number of control points are required in order to achieve accurate geolocation of satellite images. Control points can be generated from existing maps or surveying, or, preferably, from GPS measurements. The requirement of control points increase the cost of satellite mapping, let alone it makes the mapping over inaccessible areas troublesome. This paper investigates the possibilities of modeling an entire imaging strip with control points obtained from a small portion of the strip. We tested physical sensor models that were based on satellite orbit and attitude angles. It was anticipated that orbit modeling needed a sensor model with good accuracy of exterior orientation estimation, rather then the accuracy of bundle adjustment. We implemented sensor models with various parameter sets and checked their accuracy when applied to the scenes on the same orbital strip together with the bundle adjustment accuracy and the accuracy of estimated exterior orientation parameters. Results showed that although the models with good bundle adjustments accuracy did not always good orbit modeling and that the models with simple unknowns could be used for orbit modeling.
