Development on Steel Pipe for Hydroforming by Roll Forming Analysis (롤 성형 해석을 통한 하이드로포밍 전용 강관 개발)

  • In the roll forming process, a sheet or strip of metal is continuously and progressively formed into a desired cross-sectional profile by feeding it through a series of forming roll. Accordingly, it is important to maintain the material properties of the initial sheet and deform uniformly during the roll forming. The roll forming process was estimated in consideration of some factors such as material properties, strip thickness, roll diameter, roll velocity, and the deformation of the material that influence the forming length. The hydroforming technology has been recognized as a new technique in manufacturing industry, especially in automotive industry. The formed pipe in used in hydroforming process is manufactured by the roll forming. The formability during hydroforming is very sensitive to the state of pipes which are made by roll forming. Particularly the amount of hardening during roll forming affects the formability. Therefore, it is necessary to design the optimum roll flower to reduce the local hardening. In this paper, optimum roll flower which has uniform strain distribution through sheet width was obtained by comparing strain distribution in various roll flower. Finite element analysis(FEA) is performed to estimate the strain distribution related to hardening by roll forming. A numerical analysis is carried out by SHAPE-RF.

  • Much labor, an exceedingly long lead time, and the skills of experienced engineers are required for press tool design. To reduce such problems, several CAD systems for blanking or piercing have been developed. This paper describes a computer-aided design for blanking or piercing of irregularly shaped sheet metal products. An approach to the system is based on knowledge base rules. The process planning & die design system is designed by considering several factors, such as complexity of blank geometry, punch profile, and availability of press equipment and standard parts. Therefore, after checking a production feasibility for irregular shaped sheet metal products, this system which is implemented strip layout module can carry out a process planning and generate the strip layout in graphic forms. Also this system implemented die layout module can carry out a die design for each process which is obtained form the result of an automated process planning and generate parts and assembly drawing of a die set.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design and machining of irregular shaped-sheet metal product for blanking or piercing operation. An approach to the CAD/CAM system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the CAD/CAM system is formulated from plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. The system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD and in customer tool kit on the SmartCAM with a personal computer and is composed of nine modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern-layout, production feasibility check, blank-layout, strip-layout, die-layout, data conversion, modelling, and post-processor module. Based on knowledge-based rules, the system is designed by considering several factors, such as material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, diameter and material of a wire, and availability of press. This system is capable of generating NC data automatically according to drawings of die-layout module. Results which are carried out in each module will provide efficiencies to the designer and the manufacturer of blanking or piercing die in this field.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design of lead frame semicon-ductor with piercing operation which is very precise for progressive working. An approach to the sys-tem is based on to knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plasticity theories experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. This system has been writ-ten using AutoLISP to AutoCAD on a personal computer and is composed of three main modules which are input and shape treatment production feasibility check and strip-layout module. Based on the knowledge-based rules the system is designed by considering several factors such as material and thickness of product complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, and availability of press. Also strip-layout drawing generated by piercing operation according to punch profiles considered V-notch dimple. pad chamfer spank cavity punch camber and cross bow of lead frame is displayed in graphic forms. This system can be used by a novice who may not have any knowledge of tool design and will invrease efficiencies to the designer in this field.

Springback Characteristics of Tailor-Welded Strips in U-bending (레이저 용접 판재의 U-벤딩시 스프링백 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Sheet or plate bending is one of the most important industrial metal forming processes. Considerable attention has been focused on gaining a better understanding of bending characteristics. One of defaults in bending process is the springback. In this study, the springback characteristics of tailor-welded strips in U-bending process was investigated. Furthermore, effect of the process variables such as the geometry of the tools, thickness combination of workpiece, and welding prcoessing on springback were experimentally clarified. First, tailor-welded strips are joined by the laser welding process and consisted of two types of thickness combinations of the SCPl sheet, $0.8t{\times}1.2t$ and $0.8t{\times}1.6t$ to investigate the effect of different thickness combination on the springback. Secondly, two different directionly welded strips, one was welded along the centerline of the strip-width and the other was along the centerline of strip-length, were adopted to compare the effects of the location of weld line on the springback. Some cases of the experimental results were compared to the results simulated by using a commercial FEM code, PAM-STAMP and the theoretical results using the springback formula as well.

  • This paper describes the process planning system of a computer-aided design of blanking and piercing for irregularly shaped sheet metal products. An approach to the system is based on knowledge-based rules. The process planning system is designed by considering several factors, such as the complexity of blank geometry, production feasibility of products, and punch profile complexity. Therefore this system which was implemented production feasibility check and strip layout module can carry out a process planning considering a production feasibility area of both internal and external features, a dimension of blanked hole, a coner and a fillet radius for irregualrly shaped sheet metal products and generate the strip layout in graphic froms. Knowledges for process planning are extracted from plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know- hows of experts in blanking companies. This provides powerful capabilities for process planning system of irregularly shaped sheet metal products.

Study on the Linear Non-Complementary 2-Arm Slot Sinuous Antenna for Low Input Impedance (저 입력 임피던스를 위한 선형 비 상보 2-암 슬롯 시누어스 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • Sinuous antenna is utilized in a number of application like direction-finding system that require ultra wideband, but because of high input impedance of the antenna, it is difficult to design low-profile antenna and balun. In this study, we used Babinet's principle and proposed linear 2-arm slot sinuous antenna that is divided sinuous 6 cell with equal spacing between the most largest radius $R_1=31.83mm$ and the smallest radius $R_p=1.7mm$ instead of exponential 2-arm strip sinuous antenna for 2-18[GHz] frequency band to obtain low input impedance, and we have studied -10dB bandwidth of antenna when has been fed by $80{\Omega}$ instead of $188{\Omega}$ at feeder point. As a result, we have obtained return loss below than -10dB for about 4-18[GHz] frequency range in the case of slot antenna, but at all frequency band, return loss was above -10dB in the case of strip antenna.

The system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD with a personal computer and is composed of four main modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern layout, strip layout and die layout module. Based on knowledge-based rules, the system is designed by considering several factors such as radius and angle of bend, material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, bending sequence, and availability of press. Strip layout drawing generated by the piercing processes with punch profiles divided into for external area is simulated in 3-D graphic forms, including bending sequences for the product with piercing and bending. Results obtained using the modules enable the manufacturer for progressive working of electronic products to be more efficient in this field.

This system is capable of unfolding a formed sheet metal part to give flat pattern and automatically account for the adjustment of bend allowances to match tooling requirements by checking dimensions and the best utilization ratio of blank-layout within bending production feasibility area which is beyond ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ degrees intersecting angle between grain flow and bending edge line and which is suitable to progressive bending operation. Also the strip-layout drawing generated by a bending and a piercing operation according to punch profiles divided into automatically for external area of irregularly shaped-sheet metal product is displayed in graphic forms.

  • A line profile synthesis method is presented that minimizes the nearest-neighbor crosstalk peak level for high-speed pulse transmission in multi-coupled microstrip signal buses. We adopted the optimization technique for the reflected wave control on bus lines resulting in increasing the average spacing between strip conductors, since in a parallel-conductor bus the crosstalk energy is concentrated at the nearest neighbors of the driven line. The generalized S-matrix technique is applied for the input and output waveform prediction, and crosstalk characteristics of various nonuniform lines synthesized for increasing the average spacing are analyzed by comparing each other. Simulation results demonstrate that the Chebyshev taper with dips is adequate to significantly minimize the crosstalk peak level under the satisfactory waveform integrity since the profile is oriented to evenly reflect significant pulse spectra within the frequency range of pulse.
