PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) velocity field measurements inside the snout of a1/10 scale model of the Zn plating process were carried out at the strip speed $V_s=1.5m/s$. Aluminum powder particles ($1{\mu}m$) and atomized olive oil ($3{\mu}m$) were used as seeding particles to simulate the molten Zinc flow and deoxidization gas flow, respectively. A pulsed Nd:Yag laser and a $2K{\times}2K$ high-resolution CCD camera were synchronized for the PIV velocity field measurement. From flow visualization study, it is found that the liquid flow in the Zn pot is dominantly governed by the uprising flow caused by the rotating sink roll, with its effect on the steel strip inside the snout largely diminished by installing of the snout. The deoxidization gas flow in front of the strip inside the snout can be characterized by a large-scale vortex rotating clockwise direction formed by the moving strip. In the rear side of the strip, a counter-clockwise vortex is formed and some of the flow entrained by the moving strip impinges on the free surface of molten zinc. The liquid flow in front of the strip is governed by the flow entering the snout, caused by the spinning sink roll. Just below the free surface a counter-clockwise vortex is formed near the snout wall. The moving strip affects dominantly the flow behind the strip inside the snout, and large amount of the liquid flow follows the moving strip toward the sink roll. The thickness of the flow following the strip is very thin in the front side due to the uprising flow, however thick boundary layer is formed in the rear side of the strip. Its thickness is increased as moving downstream toward the sink roll. Inside the snout, the deoxidization gas flow above the free surface is much faster than the liquid flow in the zinc pot. Due to the larger influx of the flow following the moving strip in the rear side of the strip, higher percentage of imperfection can be anticipated on the rear surface of the strip.
Local drug delivery by using biocompatible polymers has been developed in the treatment of periodontitis for many years. In the field of dental therapy, doxycycline is usually a first choice because of its broad-spectrum antibiotic activity. The strip releases antibiotics for a week, and the polymer should be degradable after a week. In this study, we prepared and evaluated the chitosan strips and nanoparticle strips containing doxycycline hydrochloride, and studied their antiacterial activity, dissoultion, and degrability in vitro. The weight of cast strip containing a 5 mg of doxycycline hydrochloride and a 45 mg of chitosan polymer was $57.67{\pm}0.17\;mg$. The release rate of doxycycline hydrochloride from the strip was measured by HPLC. The drug released from chitosan strip and nanoparticle strip was shown to be $50\;{\mu}g/mL$ in first 24 hours. In antibacterial test showed growth inhibitory activity after 24 hrs anaerobic incubation. In vitro degradability showed demolished weight of $93.74{\pm}0.08%$ chitosan strip, $82.48{\pm}1.29%$ chitosan nanoparticle strip, $2.47{\pm}1.99%$ polycarprolactione strip (control). These results showed that, with this doxycycline hydrochloride strip, it is feasible to obtain a sustained release of the drug within the periodontal pocket for seven days which may be improve for local drug delivery system for treatment of periodontal disease.
When galvanized steel strip is produced through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process, the thickness of the adhered zinc film is controlled by impinging a thin plane nitrogen gas jet. The thickness of the zinc film is generally affected by impinging pressure distribution, its gradient and shearing stress at the steel strip. These factors are influenced by static pressure of gas spraying at air knife nozzle, a nozzle-to-strip distance and strip and a geometric shape of the air knife, as well. At industries, galvanized steel strip is produced by changing static pressure of gas and a distance between the air knife nozzle and strip based on experimental values but remaining a geometric shape of nozzle. Splashing and check-mark strain can generally occur when a distance between the air knife nozzle and strip is too short, while ability of zinc removal can lower due to pressure loss of impinging jet when a distance between the air knife nozzle and strip is too long. In present study, buckling of the jet and change of static pressure are observed by analyzing flow characteristics of the impinging jet. The distance from the nozzle exit to the strip varies from 6 mm to 16 mm by an increment of 2 mm. Moreover, final coating thickness with change of a distance between the air knife nozzle and strip is compared with each case. An ability of zinc removal with the various distances is predicted by numerically calculating the final coating thickness.
A low-cost, simple strip reader system using a linear movement mechanism of CD-ROM deck has been developed to characterize a lateral flow membrane-based immunochromatographic assay. The test strip reader was assembled by a CD-ROM deck and home-made optical head especially designed for immunoassays. The optical head for detecting reflected light from the test strip surface consists of green light-emitting diode, large area silicon photodiode, and anodized aluminum mounting block providing a slit structure for cutting light from the LED. The stepping motor of the deck was operated in the full step mode, whose distance of each reading point is about 0.15mm. The performance of the strip reader was tested by analysis of HBV(hepatitis B virus) antigen test kit. This strip reader can be useful for inexpensive, disposable, and membrane-based assays that provide visual evidence of the presence of an analyte in a liquid sample.
The paper presents the formulation of 3-nodal line semi-analytical Mindlin-Reissner finite strip in the buckling analysis of thin-walled members, which are subjected to arbitrary loads. The finite strip is simply supported in two opposite edges. The general loading and in-plane rotation techniques are used to develop this finite strip. The linear stiffness matrix and the geometric stiffness matrix of the finite strip are given in explicit forms. To validate the proposed model and study its performance, numerical examples of some thin-walled sections have been performed and the results obtained have been compared with finite element models and the published ones.

A new steel-making process, strip-casting, is introduced. The strip-casting is a new technique making the thin steel strip from the molten steel directly without resorting to repetitive reheating and hot-rolling required in a conventional steel-making method. This paper derives the mathematical model of strip caster, proposes a control strategy for stable startup operation and a fuzzy decision making rule for automatic control mode change in strip-casting process.
In hot roiling process, new rolling mills have been apapted to strip rolling but we can usually experience the problem of snaking of strip. This phenomenon was arisen by nonsymmetric rolling and on-centering and cambering of a strip and other mill conditions. Three dimensional analysis for strip rolling predicted the influence of nonsymmetric rolling, off-centering and pair crossing system This study evaluated the fundamental characteristics of snaking of a strip to optimize the operating condition for trouble free rolling.
In this paper, the slab method have been applied to investigate the strip casting process in which hot coil is produced from molten steel directly. In the twin roll strip casting process, molten steel supplied by the nozzle cools and solidifies due to the heat extraction effect of the rolls and hot rolling of the solidified shell takes place simultaneously. The analysis of hot rolling has been carried out by using the existing results of solidification analysis for the twin roll strip casting process. The current slab method provides basic design data such as roll separation force, rolling torque, rolling power as well as end dam separation force which are required to design strip caster. The effect of friction on the basic process parameters are investigated also. It is shown that the use of appropriate friction coefficient is important and that the characteristics of hot rolling in the twin-roll strip casting process is quite different from the conventional hot rolling processes.

A simulation of hot strip finishing mill automatic gauge control (AGC) system is built, which is divided into four modules such as rolling mill system, AGC module, looper system and strip model. The rolling mill system is built by mechanism modeling, the looper system and strip model are built by function modeling, and the AGC model is tried to use intelligent control of a multi-function AGC system. The target is attempted to use this simulation object to minimize finisher exit strip thickness deviation resulting from strip entry thickness disturbance and rolling force deviation. Simulation results show that the result of this AGC/LPC synthetical system module simulation is quite close to the actual result. The simulation system can also analyze most kinds of disturbance which affect the rolling process. It is proved that the system can represent practical situation of hot strip finishing mill process control, and be used as a basic platform of research and development for researcher and engineer.
The looper control of hot strip finishing mill is one of the most important control item In hot strip rolling mill process. Loopers are placed between finishing mill stands and control the mass flow of the two stands. Another important action of the looper is to control the strip tension which influences on the width of the strip. So it is very important to control both the looper angle and the strip tension simultaneously but the looper angle and the strip tension are strongly interacted by each other. The gain scheduling is to break the control design process into two steps. First, one designs local linear controllers based on linerizations of the nonlinear system at several different operating conditions. Second, a global nonlinear controller for the nonlinear system is obtained by interpolating.
