This study was designed to measure the degree of work stress perceived by clinical nurses working in psyciatric ward, and to identify the factors influencing the difference of work stress. The survey method was used and the subjects of this study consisted of 135 psyciatric nurses from 7 university hospitals and 4 provincial general hospitals. The data were collected from August 1 to 20, 1988. The instrument used for this study was PNOSS(Psychiatric Nurse Occupational Stress Scale) which was developed by Bai(1989). The confidence verification of this instrument was computed and the Cronbach $\alpha$ was 0.94050. Data were analysed by t-test and ANOVA on 5% significant level with SPSS program. The results of study were summerized as follow : 1) The degree of perceived stress among psychiatric nurses was considerably high(4.32 out of 6.00). 2) Among the stressors, inadequate staffing(5.04), hospital administrational problems (4.7) and the conflict of nurse-patient relationship were identified as the stress factors with high rank of degree of stress. 3) There was significant relationship between the degree of stress and the demographic variables of nurses such as the marital status, educational level, and the motivation of working in psychiatric ward. 4) There was significant relationship between the job-related variables such as the working duration, the motivation of working and nurse's attitude toward the psychiatric patients. 5) The relationship between several stress factors and some of the demographic and the job-related variables were significantly identified.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of biofeedback training on the perceived stress, stress response, and academic resilience of nursing students. Methods: The research used a randomly assigned control group pretest-posttest design. The study participants were 34 senior students from the College of Nursing of S University. The study was conducted from March to April 2012. The biofeedback training conducted in this study consisted of eight sessions, each divided into two stages: 15 minutes each for breathing biofeedback training and electromyography (EMG) biofeedback training. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 19.0. Results: We found statistically significant decreases in perceived stress and EMG levels and an increase in academic resilience in the experimental group. Conclusion: The results showed that the biofeedback training for the nursing students was extremely effective in reducing their levels of perceived stress and EMG while increasing academic resilience. To clarify the effects of biofeedback training on the biological stress response, participants with a higher level of stress response should be recruited in future studies.

The main purpose of this study was to identify the effect of stress management program on the perceived stress, stress response, ways of coping of nurses. The data were collected from September 22 to December 21, 1997. The subjects were 45 emergency nurses of three university hospital located in seoul ; 25 assigned for the experimental group and 20 for the control group. The stress management program was composed of cognitive training, behavioral training and progressive muscle relaxation. The subjects of the experimental group carried out the 15-minute progressive muscle relaxation according to recorded-tape once a day for 6 weeks. The cognitive and the behavioral training were conducted by the investigator for 5~8 subjects at a time for 9 series, at an interval of 4~5days.The instruments used in the study was the perceived stress scale developed by Levenstein et al.(1993), Symptoms of stress Inventory(1991), and ways of coping scale developed by Lazarus & Folkman(1984).The data were analyzed by SAS program, using descriptive statistics, χ2-test, t-test, paired t-test.The results were as follows :1. The perceived stress of experimental group was lower than that of the control group. However, no significant difference between the two groups was revealed.2. The stress response of experimental group was reduced after stress management program and the stress response of control group was reduced after stress management program. but no significant difference between the two groups was revealed.3. The problem oriented coping of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, however no significant difference between the two groups was revealed.4. The emotional oriented coping of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group, however no significant difference between the two groups was revealed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between fatigue and other variables(perceived health status, marital adjustment and stress), and define the main factors influencing fatigue in middle aged women. Methods: Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 212 middle aged women. Data analysis was done with the SPSS 11.0 pc+ program for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of fatigue was 2.30(${\pm}0.46$), perceived health status was 2.82(${\pm}0.68$), marital adjustment was 2.86(${\pm}0.44$), and stress was 2.43(${\pm}0.61$). There were significant correlations between fatigue and the other variables(r=.56-.21, p=.00). The major factors that affect fatigue in middle aged women were stress, perceived health status, and marital adjustment, which explained 35.2% of fatigue. Conclusion: These variables have an effect on middle aged women's fatigue. Therefore, these findings can provide the basis for the development of nursing interventions to manage fatigue.
Objective: This study aimed to compare the subjective health status, physical activity index, and perceived stress rate of obese children with those of healthy children through propensity matching analysis and to use the results to help manage obese children. Design: Descriptive correlation study. Methods: This study conducted a secondary analysis using raw data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Propensity matching (1:2) was conducted between obese and healthy adolescents. Results: The number of days of physical activity was 1.22 days for the obese adolescent group and 1.01 days for the non-obese adolescent group, which was higher in the obese group (p=0.003). The subjective health status was 3.43 and 3.81 in the obese and non-obese adolescent groups, respectively, showing a higher difference in the normal group (p<0.001). No statistical difference was observed in the perceived stress rate (p=0.871) or strength exercises (p=0.190) between the two groups. Conclusion: This study suggests the need for development measures to effectively improve youth physical activity, muscle-strengthening programs, stress management, and subjective health status in obese and normal groups.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impacts of social support and acculturative stress on depression among Korean registered nurses in the United States. Method: In total, 137 nurses were recruited through direct interviews and online surveys. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire from June 1, to September 16, 2012, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$'s test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS WIN 14.0. Results: Social support significantly differed by the length of one's nursing career in US, monthly income and perceived health status. Acculturative stress significantly differed by the length of one's nursing career in US and types of employment setting. Depression significantly differed by the total length of one's nursing career, type of employment setting, and perceived health status. Moreover, Depression was negatively correlated with social support; positively correlated with acculturative stress; social support was negatively correlated with acculturative stress. Factors influencing depression were acculturative stress, perceived health status, and social support, which explained about 23% of the total variance. Conclusion: These results suggest that an adaptation program that decreases acculturative stress and improves social support should be developed and implemented for Korean nurses to help them successfully integrate into the healthcare system of new country.
