This study investigated a posttraumatic stress, social support, and work burden and identified related factors which exerted influence on posttraumatic stress of new firefighters. Data were gathered from total of 144 new firefighters. Also, 22 PTS items, 20 work burden items, and 8 social support items were analyzed by SPSSWIN 21.0 program. Posttraumatic stress according to general characteristics showed significant difference in gender(t=-2.57, p=0.01), experience of self danger(t=3.06, p=0.00), experience of rescuee danger(t=2.41, p=0.02), and experience of colleague danger(t=3.43, p=0.00). High risk group of PTS was 20.1%. Posttraumatic stress, social support, and work burden showed significant difference in the high and low risk group. Posttraumatic stress was correlated with work burden(r=0.34, p=0.00), social support(r=-0.29,p=0.00). Factors influencing PTS were Experience of colleague danger(${\beta}$=1.274, 95% CI=0.08-0.96), social support(${\beta}$=-0.090, 95% CI=0.85-0.98) and work burden(${\beta}$=0.057, 95% CI=1.02-1.10). We need to reduce the work burden caused by influencing variable of traumatic stress and create more preventive discipline of traumatic stress for the new firefighters to improve the social support at work or home. Also, posttraumatic stress has to be managed consistently with support by changing the social attitudes and we need to seek the new system that anybody can get a consultation of a specialist.
This study was designed to determine the schemata and their characteristics of stress experience the subjectivity of stress experience(structure of subjectivity) would be a basic step for the effective clinical education through the stress management for characteristics of these types. Q-methodological method was used for that purpose. The research method statements were collected prior to the study through indepth interviews. For the study, 31 Q-statements were selected. There were 34 nursing students as subjects for the research. The 34 nursing students sorted the 31 statements using the principal of forced normal distribution. The principle of forced normal distribution, which has 9 scales to measure the individual opinions, was called. Q-factor analysis by using PC QUANL program supply the material. According to the outcomes of this study, there were 3 types of special opinion about the stress experience of clinical practice. The first type is called 'Influence of practical atmosphere type'. Members of this type experienced stress by an inadequate orientation and undesirable role model of nursing. The second type is called 'conflict of nursing role type'. Members of this type experienced stress by an inadequate orientation and undesirable role model of nursing. The third type is called 'Lack of confidence type'. Members of this type experienced stress because of a lack of confidence for their own nursing knowledge and skill. As a result, we now need further study to identify individual psychological aspects of stress for clinical practice. The findings will guide the development in effective approaches for clinical education. Finally, the result of the study will provide us the need for developing systematic and integrated practice education program for students and active involvement of clinical instructor.
Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate direct care stress and job satisfaction in home care nurses. Method: Subjects were 139 home care nurses of hospitals in urban cities. Data was collected by a self report questionnaire. Direct care stress was measured by Community Health Nurses Perceptions of Work-Related Stressors Questionnaire. Job satisfaction was measured by a visual analogue scale. Results: The average score of direct care stress was 60.4. There were significantly high direct care stress in those who had less than that 3 years experience than in their counterparts. The average score of job satisfaction was 79.5. There were significant high job satisfaction in those who willingly chose to work. Direct care stress negatively correlated with the length of office experience of the home care nurse. Conclusion: A direct care educational program should be developed for those who have less than 3 years experience to decrease their stress level.
The purpose of this study is primarily intended to examine the stress and physical, emotional and behavioral stress symptoms of elementary school students supply the basic data of intervention for children's health promotion. The subjects of this study were 616 students who were currently enrolled in 5th and 6th grade elementary school in Jeollabukdo ; 3 schools in J city and other 6 in 3 rural area. The data were collected by self-reported questionnaire from 3rd to 13th April 2002 and collected data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 8.0. The results of this study were as followings. 1. The mean score of stress that children experience was 2.73 and the most stressful factor was a friendship stress. The most frequently experienced stress were feel that a friends would leave them alone. 2. The mean score of stress symptom that children experience was 1.92 and the most stressful symptom was the emotion symptom. The most frequently experienced stressful symptom were feel fatigue of everyday. 3. General characteristics related to stress were showed significantly different according to sex(t=-3.243, p=.001) 4. General characteristics related to stress symptoms were showed significantly different according to sex(t=-2.268, p=.024), family circumstances(F=8.697, p=.000), academic scores(F=11.216, p=.000) and parental concerns on a child(t=-2.561, p=.011). 5. The relation between stress and stress symptoms showed a positive correlation, which was significant statistically(r=.453, p=.000). In conclusion, elementary school students experience various stresses and the stress symptoms have positive close connection with health problems. Therefore, to study the students stress and consequent symptoms further, it is recommended that we should subdivide and analyze the stressor and stress symptoms by proper areas. In the meantime, in order to promote children's health using the data in this study, we should develop the correlated program among individual, family, school and community while we are deeply concerned about and support children continuously.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between the hemodialysis unit nurses' experience of verbal abuse, job stress, burnout, and turnover intention, and to identify the explained variances for turnover intention. Methods: The research design was a descriptive survey using a probability sampling. The data were measured using self-report questionnaires from 231 hemodialysis unit nurses in seven cities in Korea and were analyzed with SPSS 20.0. Results: The mean scores were $2.45{\pm}0.62$ (out of 5) for experience of verbal abuse, $2.40{\pm}0.26$ (out of 4) for job stress, $2.31{\pm}0.48$ (out of 4) for burnout, and $3.16{\pm}0.05$ (out of 5) for turnover intention. There were significant correlations among the experience of verbal abuse, job stress, burnout, and turnover intention within the hemodialysis unit nurses. Factors influencing turnover intention were 'burnout' (${\beta}=.42$, p<.001) and 'job stress' (${\beta}=.17$, p=.015)which explained 42% of the variance (F=15.98, p<.001). Conclusion: Results suggest that in order to reduce nurses' turnover intention, nurse managers should explore strategies to reduce nurses' burnout and job stress in nurses in hemodialysis units.
The author studied the prevalence and sites of orofacial pain during the latest 6 months, and psychologic symptoms under the emotional stress through SCL-90-R in thirty-five dental students(nineteen men and sixteen women) of school of Dentistry, Chonbuk National University. 26 students(74.3%), 12 men and 14 women, experienced the orofacial pain; headache, toothache, facial & buccal pain, TMJ pain and intraoral pain were occurred in 51.4%, 37.1%, 25.7%, 17.1% and 17.1% respectively. In psychological scores in before-, during- and after examination, there was no significant difference between men and women. On the other hand, when these scores were compared each other in one group with orofacial pain experience and the other group without pain experience, the former showed significantly higher values in somatization, depression, hostility, and paranoid ideation dimension before examination, interpersonal sensitivity and anxiety dimension during examination, and somatization dimension after examination than those of the later group(P<0.05). The changes of psychologic symptoms in before-, during-, and after examination were observed in one group with pain experience and the other group without pain experience, respectively; in the former group the significantly higher values of anxiety dimension in during examination than after examination, and the significantly higher values of interpersonal sensitivity dimension in before examination than after examination(P<0.05) were evaluated.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the experience and point prevalence rate and factors related with Low Back Pain (LBP) in bin drivers. Methods: Questionnaires were completed by 200 drivers at 2 bus companies in Andong city in October.2000. The information was used to estimate odds ratio (OR) and $99\%$ confidence intervals (CI) for factors relation to LBP. A cross-section study design was used. Results: The experience rate for LBP was $53.5\%$, point prevalence rate was $31.5\%$. Variables significantly associated with LBP experience were employ duration and stress related occupation. The higher subjects had experienced stress. the higher experience for LBP was (OR=2.9, $95\%$ Cl 1.2-7.2). The longer subjects had employ duration in bus company, the higher experience far LBP was (OR=1.3, $95\%$ Cl 1.2-7.2). Significant factors relation to a week point prevalence far LBP were obesity and employ duration. LBP increased as weight increased (OR=4.1, Cl 1.6-10.7). The longer subjects has employ duration at bus company, the higher LBP is (OR=1.4. $95\%$ Cl 1.6-2.9). Conclusions: Results from this study indicated that a statistically significant factor relation to LBP was stress related occupation. employ duration, and obesity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a violent experience and job stress on burnout and to investigate the factors that affect burnout in female 119 emergency medical technicians. Methods: Data from 189 female EMTs were collected using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The analyses included descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, analysis of variance, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression. Results: Burnout was positively correlated with a violent experience in female 119 EMTs. Violent experience (β=.39, p<.001) were a significant predictor of burnout in 15.2% of female 119 EMTs. Conclusion: A violent experience is identified as a significant factor affecting burnout in female 119 EMTs. Therefore, it is necessary to impart education to female 119 EMTs on effectively coping with violence.
This study investigated the relationships between inter-cultural experience and socio-psychological adjustment to the current life among children who have refilmed from living abroad. The subject of research consisted of 102 boys and 110 girls from fourth grade through sixth grade who returned to their home country after living in a foreign correlation Data were collected from 5 elementary schools in Seoul. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlation analysis and regression were used for data analysis. The results of children's social-psychological adjustment were represented by 3 categories: school/friend relationship, stress/strain and language/learning. The following are the summarized results; First, girl students were more likely to adapt to school/friend relationships in Korea and had lower stress/strain than boys. Second, the children having shorter period of residence in foreign county, lower adaptation ability to different culture and extrovert personality showed higher socio-psychological adjustments after returning to Korea. Third, the adjustment to school/friends was influenced by period of residency in the foreign county, the experience of different culture, and extrovert personality. The experience of different culture and extrovert personality effected stress/strain, and the adjustments to language/learning were influenced only by the ewperiecne of different culture. Lastly, the experience of different culture was the most important variable influencing all 3 categories of socio-psychological adjustments.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate post-traumatic stress, job stress, fatigue, and social support of nurses in direct care for COVID-19 patients and to identify the factors affecting post-traumatic stress among the nurses. Methods: The participants were 150 nurses from three hospitals. Data were collected from September 11, 2020 to September 21, 2020. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN/25.0 program. Results: The mean score of post-traumatic stress was 22.27±15.49 (range 0~88). The percentage of high risk group of post-traumatic stress was 35.3%, risk group was 20.0%, normal group was 44.7%. Post-traumatic stress showed statistically significant differences according to quarantined experience (t=2.15, p=.033), and provision of COVID-19 manual (t=-2.40, p=.026). Post-traumatic stress was positively correlated with job stress (r=.48, p<.001), and fatigue (r=.58, p<.001), and it was negatively correlated with social support (r=-.22, p=.005). Job stress was positively correlated with fatigue (r=.74, p<.001), and it was negatively correlated with social support (r=-.17, p=.030). Fatigue and social support (r=-.17, p=.029) had a negative correlation. The results of regression analysis showed that the factors affecting post-traumatic stress included fatigue (β=.56, p<.001), provision of COVID-19 manual (β=-.24, p<.001), and quarantined experience (β=.18, p=.006) and that the total explanatory power was 42.0%. Conclusion: In this study, fatigue, provision of COVID-19 manual, and quarantined experience were found as influential factors of post-traumatic stress among nurses in direct care for COVID-19 patients. Therefore, development of the intervention for reducing the fatigue should consider to prevent post-traumatic stress in nurses. Also, provision of COVID-19 manual for nurses and psychological intervention program for nurses experienced quarantine are necessary.
