  • The use of advanced composite materials has grown in recent years in aerospace and other structures. Out of various kinds of repairing methods the one selecteh for this study is an idealized case which simulates a situation where a damaged laminate has been repaired by drilling a hole and therefter plugging the hole with reinforcement. Two typesof reinforcement are investigated ;adhesively bonged plug reinforcement or snug-fit unbonded plug in the hole. For each case of reinforcement, four different sizes of hole diameter and three types of reinforcing material(steel, aluminum, plexiglass) are employed for investigation. The experiment are mainloy forced on the evaluation of ultimate strength of laminate with reinforced hole in comparison to its counterpart with the open hole.

  • The fracture strength of cross groove type constant velocity joint is largely determined by the fracture strength of the cage having window-like pockets for retaining the torque transmitting balls. A stress distribution acting on the cage is influenced by rigidities of the rim portion and of the column members, therefore requires a calculation such as FEA. To analyze fracture strength of cage, a 3-D elasto-plastic finite element analysis and a submodeling technique are used to achieve both computational efficiency and accuracy. The results are in reasonably good agreement with experiment.

  • Concrete has a many problems to apply high rise building of its low strength to weight and low ductility, compared to steel products. Therefore, it is necessary to make high strength concrete for applying to night rise building. In the experiment, the high strength concrete was made in variable of unit weight of binder, water to binder ratio(W/B), and sand to aggregate ratio(S/a) using batcher plant. As a result, it was possible to make high strength concrete using only materials for ordinary concrete without admixtures such like silica fume in batcher plant.

  • A clear correlation exists between the compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete. Unfortunately, determining the static elastic modulus requires destructive methods and determining the dynamic elastic modulus is greatly complicated by the shape and size of the specimens. This paper reports on a novel approach to the prediction of compressive strength in concrete cylinders using numerical calculations in conjunction with the impact-echo method. This non-destructive technique involves obtaining the speeds of P-waves and S-waves using correction factors through numerical calculation based on frequencies measured using the impact-echo method. This approach makes it possible to calculate the dynamic elastic modulus with relative ease, thereby enabling the prediction of compressive strength. Experiment results demonstrate the speed, convenience, and efficacy of the proposed method.

  • In this study, various fats and oils were soaked in low-strength mortar to experiment what kind of fats and oils had the worst effect on low-strength mortar; it went as follows. For rate of change in length of fat and oil soaking, there was an increase in the order of pig fat, bio-diesel, grape seed oil, and water; in the case of olive oil it was destroyed within 56 days. For rate of change in mass, there was an increase in the order of bio-diesel, water, pig fat, grape seed oil, and olive oil. For relative motion elastic coefficient, there was a decrease in the order of olive oil, grape seed oil, and water. On the whole, pig fat, bio-diesel, and olive oil were shown to have the worst effect on low-strength mortar.

  • There is no study that application of the maturity using H.B.C and H.S.C. Also activation energy has different values according to the cement, admixture and water-cement ratio. Therefore to make accurate explanation for the effect of temperature on concrete strength development properties, it is necessary that activation energy value according to the kind of cement is reviewed. This study compares and estimates equivalent age using activation energy value obtained by this experiment and Freiesleben activation energy value with compressive strength of concrete. As the result of this study, activation energy value obtained by this study has more accurate explanation of temperature's influence on concrete strength development than Freiesleben activation energy value.

  • Generally brittle eta phase produced during TiC deposition has a effect on the TRS (transverse rupture strength ; thoughness). Therefore it is necessary to reduce eta(η), phase for the improvement of tool life. At this experiment some properties (TRS, bonding strength, tool life, eta phase)have been investigated by inserting TiN or TiCN underlayer between TiC layer and substrate. The results obtained were as follows; 1. by inserting underlayer eta phase were decreased and TRS was increased, but the bonding strength was decreased. 2. the diffusion of W, Co from the substrate was hindered by the underlayer. 3. TiC layer with TiCN underlayer had the finsest grain size. 4. by inserting underlayer (TiCN or TiN) the tool life was improved and especially notch and crater wear resistance was greatly improved.

  • The variations of the mold compression strength were studied by varing the contents of the silicon powder and water glass, silion purities, and molecule rates of the water glass, when domestic JA EUN DO sand is mixed with water glass (sodium silicate) and metallic silicon or ferro - silicon powder by the self - hardening N - PROCESS method. The results obtained from this experiment are as follows; 1) The compression strength of the mold used with metalic powder was higher and more stable than to be used ferro - silicon powder. 2) 6% water glass of 2.8 molecule rate and 1.5% of ferro - silicon of 75% purity for the N - PROCESS used with JA EUN DO sand was suitable mixing rate. 3) The compression strength increased with self - hardening time, and the PH values of the mixture of silicon powder and water glass did not change after 2 hours, but the compression strength increased steadily due to the reaction of remained silicon. 4) It is recommended to take 24 hours for self - hardening time at least.
