A Portfolio Selection Strategy with Consideration of Managerial Efficiency and Growth Potential of Construction Corporations (건설 기업의 경영효율성과 성장가능성을 고려한 포트폴리오 선택 전략)

  • This study presents a portfolio selection strategy focusing on construction corporations by taking into accounts managerial efficiency and growth potential of a company. Data envelopment analysis(DEA) methodology and dividend scoring table are adopted for evaluating the managerial efficiency and growth potential of a company respectively. In order to show the effectiveness of the portfolios selected by the strategies proposed in this study, we constructed 3 portfolios for every 4 years (2007-2010) out of 56 listed construction corporations in KOSPI and KOSDAQ, and proved that our portfolios are superior to benchmark portfolios in terms of portfolio evaluation measures.

  • ESG is the hottest topic in recent business management or business administration. In particular, with the release of the IPCC's 6th comprehensive report in 2023, environmental issues have been further raised around the world, and ESG management for sustainable and permanent companies is accelerating by improving social and governance structures, including the environment, and thereby enhancing corporate value. This case study is analyzed based on the theory of sustainable growth, creating shared value, and corporate social responsibility. This study focuses on the case of Samsung Biologics, which is pursuing sustainable growth and management through ESG management. Samsung Biologics is the first Korean company to win the "Terra Carta Seal" award, part of a sustainable market initiative to respond to climate change, and externally, it has acquired the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, acquired the KCGS ESG comprehensive evaluation A grade, acquired the CDP B grade, and acquired the EcoVadis Gold grade. It has joined the Sustainable Market Initiative launched by King Charles III since the World Economic Forum in 2020 to chair the Supply Chain. It has joined RE100, TCFD, and UN Global Compact to lead sustainable management through ESG activities. Therefore, we would like to take a practical approach to ESG management strategies for sustainable growth through the example of this company.

Reliability Growth Planning for a Military System Using PM2-Continuous Model (예측방법론 기반 연속형 계획 모델을 적용한 무기체계의 신뢰도 성장 계획)

  • Purpose: To develop the reliability growth planning for a subsystem of guided weapon system using PM2-Continuous model. Methods: The target MTBF of the subsystem is set by allocating the system target MTBF to the lower level, where ARINC method is applied. Other model parameters such as initial MTBF, management strategy ratio and average fix effectiveness factor are chosen from historical growth parameter estimates. Given the values of model parameters, the reliability growth planning curve using PM2-Continuous model is constructed and the sensitivity analyses are performed for the changes of model parameters. Results: We have developed the reliability growth plan for a subsystem of guided weapon system using PM2-Continuous model. It was found that the smaller the ratio of initial MTBF to target MTBF, the smaller the management strategy ratio, the smaller the average fix effectiveness factor, and the shorter the development test period, the higher reliability growth is required. Conclusion: The result of this study will be used as a basis for establishing the reliability growth plan, the test period setting and the budget appropriation for the similar system entering the system development stage in the future.

  • Modern urban cities are experiencing various problems like chronic traffic congestion, environmental pollution, reduced open space, shortage of affordable housing, deterioration of old downtown and sprawl. Under these circumstances, the urban sustainability can be grasped in many view points. Among these view points, urban growth management is one of the most recent and important issues that should be implemented by local government for the urban sustainability. This study will investigate the concept of Smart Growth as an executable strategy for the realization of sustainable urban growth management. On the other hand, one of the most important problems that hinder the urban sustainability is the lack of consistency in driving the sustainable strategy originated from the fragility of virtuous cycle of internal organizations themselves. This study will suggest an alternative local government organization model that enables the consistency and virtuous cycle of sustainable urban growth management based upon Regional Innovation System concept.

The Effects of Technology Commercialization Capability and Competitive Strategy of Venture Companies on Growth Prospects: Focused on Mediating Effect of Business Model Innovation (벤처기업의 기술사업화역량과 경쟁전략이 성장전망에 미치는 영향: 비즈니스모델 혁신의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Although the number of venture start-ups has increased significantly, it is difficult to judge the success or failure based on short-term performance alone. The survival of a company cannot be guaranteed if it does not show sustainable growth prospects. As a growth factor for venture companies, the level of technology commercialization capability and competitive strategies are considered important. Recently, the emergence of innovative business models is creating new opportunities and driving the growth of numerous venture start-ups. This study tried to investigate the mediating effect of business model innovation in the relationship between technology commercialization capability, competitive strategy and the growth prospects of venture companies. For this, empirical analysis was conducted using the original data of the Research on the Precision Status of Venture Firms 2021. As a result, production, manufacturing, marketing capability, cost leadership and product differentiation had a positive(+) effect on growth prospects. The mediating effect of business model innovation between all factors except for manufacturing capacity and growth prospects was verified. This study expanded the scope of research by shedding new light on the factors influencing the long-term growth prospects of venture companies and revealing business model innovation as a new mediating variable. In future research, it is necessary to develop an objective measurement tool and to identify differences according to industrial characteristics.

The Regional Economic Growth Strategy Based on the Characteristics of Local Public Finance of Gyeonggi-do (경기도 재정력 변동의 특성에 따른 경제성장 전략 연구 -다양한 지역구분에 따른 실증분석-)

  • In this study, we divided Gyeonggi-do into Northern, Southern, Western, and Eastern Parts and found out fiscal variables which affected regional economic growth of each Part differentially. And we drew the strategy for economic growth of each Part. After we found out the variables which affected regional economic growth using fixed-effect model, we carried out causality test to determine whether a specific fiscal variable caused economic growth. In the Eastern Part, local tax revenues had a significant effect on the economic growth. Total expenditures, current expenditure in the Southern Part and social welfare expenditure, expenditure on industries, current expenditure in the Northern Part had noticeable effects on economic growth respectively. And we calculated multipliers of fiscal variables to compare the magnitudes of effects among these Parts.

Export Growth Strategy through Comparison of Korea and China's Cosmetics Export Competitiveness (한국과 중국 향장품의 수출경쟁력 비교를 통한 수출성장 전략)

  • Korea's export economy across all industries are affected by the rise of China. The field of cosmetics can not be an exception. Expansion of the export of Chinese cosmetic goods can bring a greater concern to the export of Korea. Therefore, comparing the competitiveness of cosmetics in China and Korea will propose Implications for export growth strategy. To this end, comparing Korea cosmetic product's competitiveness with China, Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCA), Trade Specialization Index (TSI) and the status of import and export countries were comprehensively analyzed. In the case of Korea, items that have a competitive over China were No. 330499 and No. 330510. The following items in proportion were No. 330430 and No. 330590. By strengthening its position of these four items as major export items of Korea Cosmetics, export growth strategy in China and other markets around the world is needed.

BIPHASIC CULTURE STRATEGY BASED ON HYPEROSMOTIC PRESSURE FOR IMPROVED HUMANIZED ANTIBODY PRODUCTION IN CHINESE HAMSTER OVARY CELL CULTURE

  • Hyperosmotic pressure increased specific antibody productivity ($q_{Ab}$) of recombinant CHO cells (SH2-0.32) while it depressed cell growth. Thus, the use of hyperosmolar medium did not increase the maximum antibody concentration substantially. To overcome this drawback, the feasibility of biphasic culture strategy was investigated. In the biphasic culture, cells were first cultivated in the standard medium with physiological osmolality(294 mOsm/kg) for cell growth. When cells reached the late exponential phase of growth, the spent standard medium was replaced with the fresh hyperosmolar medium (522 mOsm/kg) for antibody production. The ($q_{Ab}$) in growth phase with the standard medium was 2.1 ${\mu}g/10^6cell/day$ while the ($q_{Ab}$) in antibody production phase with the hyperosmolar medium (522 mOsm/kg) was 11.1 ${\mu}g/10^6cell/day$. Northern blot analysis showed a positive relationship between the relative contenet of Ig mRNA and ($q_{Ab}$), indicating that transcriptional regulation was involved in the response of rCHO cells to hyperosmotic pressure. Due to the enhanced ($q_{Ab}$) and increased cell concentration in biphasic culture, the maximum antibody concentration obtained in biphasic culture with 522 mOsm/kg medium exchange was 161% higher than that obtained in batch culture with the standard medium. Taken together, simple biphasic culture strategy based on hyperosmotic culture for improved foreign protein production from rCHO cells is effective in improving antibody production of rCHO cells.

  • This study approaches how newly emerged game companies has implemented strategies for product diversification according to market growth cycle(beginninggrowing-mature) by empirical case study through evolutionary theory and resource based theory approach. At the beginning, online game companies had grown with different strategies(technology based, service based) by initial condition(genre, technological level, user attribute). After market growth, for product diversification, these companies carried out path-dependent alliance strategy(complementary, competitive) depending on resource base(technology capacity, service capacity based). As online game market getting mature, these companies has adapted flexibly in responding to market growth cycle by integrated strategy(naturally selected to mobilize every possible resource capability). By analyzing the alliance strategies pattern of online game companies in newly emerged game industry according to market growth cycle through combination of resource based theory and evolutionary theory, these results suggest that new industrial, theoretical, policy model is required.
