This paper provides a theoretical setup for an analysis of strategic relationships inherent to activities of an innovative multinational enterprise (MNE) and a local company in a host country. Additionally, we explore the incentives of the host country's government to provide subsidies to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and to protect outcomes of R&D activities conducted by the MNE. We show that the MNE's commercial interests may collide with local companies' over protection of IPRs. Therefore, the extent of knowledge spillovers from the MNE to the local company and the magnitude of incentives to the MNE perform a crucial function in determining the optimal policy mix of IPR protection and FDI subsidies of the host country's government.
This paper analyzes the strategic planning process of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) including its center, GSFC (Goddard Space Flight Center) in the framework of strategic planning in publicly funded R&D organizations. To construct this framework, theories have been considered mainly focused on strategic management and planning, its application on public sector, and characteristics of R&D activities. As a result, the framework could be set up in accordance with the process of strategic planning. Also, as a case study, we explored the practice of strategic planning process and organizational implementation of NASA and GSFC. During the analysis on the strategic process of NASA and GSFC, we could draw some lessons out as follows: First, we should consider the differences between private and public sectors when we establish strategic planning in public sector. Second, the stakeholder analysis should be involved in setting the mission, goals, and strategies of an organization. Third, it is necessary to identify and assess the socio-economic effects or public benefits by R&D programs of the organization and use the feedback on its goal. Fourth, to implement strategic planning effectively, planning process should be closely integrated with the management process such as setting goals, securing budgets, and evaluating the organization. Conclusively, the analysis on NASA and GSFC contribute to implementing strategic planning in publicly funded R&D organizations by providing the appropriately modified framework. As an extension of this study, more deliberate analysis on various practices of strategic planning and performance indicators should be followed.

In the past, markets were taken over by the firms which could maintain their competitive advantage through economies of scale and associated reductions in costs and prices. However, it has been changed to a new time that companies can secure their competitiveness through continuos improvements and customer orientations. Patent holders can claim protection against any infringer of their patents. Thus, in the future, firms' competitiveness will be decided by patents and intellectual property rights. How can strategic patents can be obtained and secured? The purpose of this article is to provide a couple of suggestions that can help companies secure strategic patents and build their competitive advantages. Until now, Korean companies have been interested only in the quantity of patents, not the quality of patents. In addition, from the beginning, they could not build distinctive strategic positions to secure future valuable technologies. In this article, we provided a couple of suggestions for strategic patent identification processes. First, strategic patents should be identified and created based on the company's vision. Second, the company should create technology maps through investigating previous R&D activities and patented technology information before stating its own R&D activities.
The thrust in this paper is to discuss the dimensions of executive scanning process (ESP) that support continuous scanning activities by executives. Executive scanning is especially important for the healthcare organizations in these days since the environment they are faced with is extremely complex and dynamic. While much has been written about ESP, two important aspects have been underemphasized in the past. The first is a link to the strategic management process (SMP) or the issue of strategy-scanning alignment. The second is a feedback loop to verify the quality of information generated through scanning process. This paper discusses the improved ESP by adding these two features.

Second, the results that strategic partnership can build up based on the long term thrust and commitment implies operation and management are important during operation of strategic alliance. Third, this study provides the model of determinants of partnership and performance in the strategic alliance for logistics services which is one of the factors consumers in the Internet shopping mall are most sensitively response to, and quantifies the model through the empirical analysis.
The purpose of this study is to identity the relationship between CAGE distance and Korean foreign subsidiaries' social responsibility, which is divided into responsive and strategic activities. The hypothesis is that CAGE distance has positive relationships with subsidiaries' social responsibility to overcome local liabilities of foreignness and acquire social legitimacy. The key findings are as follows. Firstly, culture distance has positive significant impacts on subsidiaries' social responsibility activities. It especially has positive influences on strategic CSR. Secondly, administration distance has no impacts on subsidiaries' social responsibility. Thirdly, geographic distance also has positive impacts on subsidiaries' social responsibility activities, especially on responsive CSR. Lastly, economic distance has significantly negative effects on social responsibility. This empirical study identifies the relationships between cross national distance and subsidiaries' social responsibility. Culture and geographic distance has positive influences on subsidiaries' social responsibility. This study is focused on how to effectively support Busan regional footwear companies in partnership with parent company, in particular how to lead a mutual supplementary relationship with the minor firms while improving the efficiency in strategic outsourcing. Recently, The Korean Footwear Industries and companies are making a lot of efforts to enhance the structure of high expenditure and low efficiency as a means of recovering their competitiveness. It is strategic outsourcing that is taken into account as a strategic vehicle for converting such self-reliance into the system of low expenditure and high efficiency. This study also conducted questionnaire researches, designed to find out the difference between the parent company and minor firms in the recognition and contentment on the purchasing and supplying activities. The result of the questionnaire researches went through further analysis and study to give a reasonable alternatives.
