This paper was carried out to investigate the existence of a unique stress- strain behavior by obtaining some factors influencing the time dependent stress- strain behavior of clay. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows ; 1. The relationship between stress ratro and strain in normally consolidated clay was in- dependent on pre-shear consolidation pressure. Therefore, shear strain could be expressed as a function with stress ratio. 2. The constitutive equation of shear strain on Modified Carn Clay Model coincided better with the observed value than Cam Clay Model. 3. The relationships between deviator stress and shear strain, between pore water pressure and shear strain were unified by the mean equivalent pressure. 4. The shear strain contour in norrnally consolidated clay was increased linearly through origin, but that in overconsolidated clay was not in accordance with the result of the former. 5. Because the effective stress path of normally consolidated clay was unified by the mean equivalent pressure, state boundary surface in (e,p,q) space was transformed into two dimensional surface. But it was considered to be suitable that the unified stress- strain in overconsolidated clay be expressed by a function with overconsolidation ratio. 6. The deviator for constant strain was increased linearly with increment of strain rate ($\varepsilon$) on semi-log scale, but pore water pressure was decreased. 7. The behavior of stress relaxation was transformed from linear to curvilinear with inc - rement of strain rate before stress relaxation test, and pore water pressure was increased in total range. 8. The strain of creep was increased linearly with increment of time on semi-log scale. The greater the strain rate before creep test became, the greater the increment of strain of creep became. And the pore water pressure during creep test was increased generally with increment of time on semi-log scale.
Zr-4 used for a cladding and an end plug of reactor component has creep deformation under operation at high temperature. Creep is regarded as the time dependent deformation of a material under constant applied stress. Although the major source of the deformation of zirconium component in water-cooled reactors is irradiation creep, the thermal creep may give a rise to significant deformation in reactor component especially at relatively high temperatures and at various constant stresses, and therefore it must be predicted accurately. Stress relaxation is the time dependent change of stress at constant strain and it is a process related intimately to creep. In this paper, the creep behavior and stress relaxation of Zr-4 is examined at the temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$ that is 40% of the absolute melting temperature of Zr-4 under the stress below yield stress and under the various constant strains. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) With an increase of stress, the steady state creep rate increases and the creep rupture time decreases. 2) The steady state creep rate $\varepsilon$(%/s) for the stress $\sigma$sub(c) (kgf/mm super(2)) of Zr-4 increases outstandingly. All the empirical equations computed for Zr-4 increases outstandingly. All the empirical equations computed for Zr-4 are in accord with Norton's model equation($\varepsilon$=K$\sigma$ sub(c) super (n)). The constants of materials computed are as follows: K=3.9881$\times$10 super(-5), n=1.9608 3) The rupture time T sub(r) (hr) decreases linearly with the increase of stress on the log-log scaled graph. The empirical equations computed for Zr-4 are in accord with Bailey's model equation (T sub(r)=K sub(1)$\sigma$sub(c) super(m)). The constants of materials computed are as follows: K sub(1)=1.2875$\times$10 super(16), m=-3.467 4) It seems clear that the strain could be quantitatively dependent on the high temperature creep properties such as creep stress, rupture time, steady state creep rate and total creep rate. It is found that these relationships are linear on the log-log graph. 5) In stress relaxation test, as the critical constant strain that can be allowed to the specimen is larger, stress relaxation becomes more rapid, and as the constant strain is smaller, the stress relaxation becomes slower.
High temperature deformation behavior of a Ti-Al intermetallic compound has been investigated. Specimens with a near gamma and a lamella structures were obtained by performing heat treatment at 1200 and 1330$^{\circ}C$, respectively, for 24 hr and stabilized at 900$^{\circ}C$ for 4 hr followed by air cooling. A series of load relaxation tests has been conducted on these samples at temperatures ranging from 850 to 950$^{\circ}C$ to construct flow curves in the strain rate range from 10$\^$-6//s to 10$\^$-3//s. Strain hardening was observed even at the temperature of 950$^{\circ}C$ in both the near gamma and the lamella structures. Further aging treatment for 12 hr at test temperatures has found to cause no softening in both microstructures.

In general, for measuring residual stresses in plane stress state, two principal stresses {\sigma}_1 , {\sigma}_2$ and their directions .theta., should be determined. Naturally, for deciding three unknowns ${\sigma}_1, {\sigma}_2, ${\theta}$-three informations are necessary and therefore three strain gages are required for determining residual stresses at one point. In this paper, we tried to measure the residual stresses of one point with only two strain gages by drilling twice the hole of different diameters at the point and by detecting relaxation strains for each hole-drilling. We present also the formulas for determining the residual stresses from relaxation strains detected by strain gages in each hole-drilling. We carried out experiment, determining principal stresses and their directions of specimens applied specified uniform stress, and compared experimental results with the values calculated by formulas presented in this paper. The values calculated by formulas presented in this paper are always a little greater than the experimental results.
Objective: This study was performed to investigate an appropriate degree of prestretch for orthodontic synthetic elastomeric chains focusing on time-dependent viscoelastic properties. Methods: Orthodontic synthetic elastomeric chains of two brands were prestretched to 50, 100, 150, and 200% of the original length in one and three cycles, and the hysteresis areas of the obtained stress-strain curves were determined. Acrylic plates were employed to maintain constant strain during the experiment. A total of 180 samples were classified into nine groups according to brand, and their stresses and permanent deformations were measured immediately after prestretch (0 hour), after 1 hour and 24 hours, and after 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 weeks. The relationship between stress relaxation and permanent deformation was investigated for various degrees of prestretch, and the estimated stress resulting from tooth movement was calculated. Results: The degree of prestretch and the stress relaxation ratio exhibited a strong negative correlation, whereas no correlation was found between the degree of prestretch and the average normalized permanent strain. The maximal estimated stress was observed when prestretch was performed in three cycles to 200% of the original length. Conclusions: Although prestretch benefited residual stress, it did not exhibit negative effects such as permanent deformation. The maximal estimated stress was observed at the maximal prestretch, but the difference between prestretch and control groups decreased with time. In general, higher residual stresses were observed for product B than for product A, but this difference was not clinically significant.
The evolution of surface roughness and morphology in epitaxial Si and $Si_{0.7}Ge{0.3}$ alloys grown by UHV opm-beam sputter deposition onto nominally-singular, [100]-, and [110]-mi-scut Si(001) was investigated by stomic force microscopy and trasmission electron microscopy. The evolution of surface roughness of epitaxial Si films grown at $300^{\circ}C$ is inconsistent with conventional scaling and hyperscaling laws for kineti roughening. Unstable growth leading to the formation of mounds separated by a well-defined length scale is observed on all substrates. Contraty to previous high-temperature growth results, the presence of steps during deposition at $300^{\circ}C$ increases the tendency toward unstable growth resulting in a much earlier development of mound structures and larger surface roughnesses on vicival substrates. Strain-induced surface roughening was found to dominate in $Si_{0.7}Ge{0.3}$ alloys grown on singular Si(001) substrates at $T_S\ge450^{\circ}C$ where the coherent islands are prererentially bounded along <100> directions and eshibt {105} facetting. Increasing the film thickness above critical values for strain relaxation leads to island coalescence and surface smoothening. At very low growth temperatures ($T_s\le 250^{\circ}C$), film surfaces roughen kinetically, due to limited adatom diffusiviry, but at far lower rates than in the higher-temperature strain-induced regime. There is an intermediate growth temperature range, however, over which alloy film surfaces remain extremely smooth even at thicknesses near critical values for strain relaxation.
A series of load-relaxation tests and tensile tests were conducted to study the high temperature deformation mechanism of fine duplex gamma TiAl alloy at temperatures ranging from 800 to 105$0^{\circ}C$. Results of load relaxation test showed that deformation behavior at a small imposed strain ($\varepsilon$≒0.05) was dominated by dislocation glide and dislocation climb. To investigate the deformation behavior at a large amount of strain, the processing map was constructed using a dynamic materials model. Two domains were characterized in the processing map obtained at a strain level of 0.6. One domain was found at the region of 98$0^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-3}/sec$ with a peak efficiency of 48%, which was identified as a domain of dynamic recrystallization from the microstructural observation. The order was observed at the region of 125$0^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-4}/sec$ with a peak efficiency of 64%. The strain rate sensitivity measured indicates that the material was deformed by the superplasticity in the region.
To investigate the change of internal stress and mobile dislocation density in the creep, stress relaxation test was examined from each strain range. Mobile dislocation density increased until it reached minimum creep rate but after that, it decreased. Internal stress did not change until it reached minimum creep rate but after that, it decreased. The stress relaxation rate is fast and approached zero later 1.5 seconds, which were begun in the stress relaxation. When the applied stress is large, the internal stress is large. It is cleared that dislocations glide viscously which N passes by cutting Cr atom rather than typical viscosity movement by the evaluation of mobility of dislocation in STS310J1TB.
By the purpose to investigate the change of internal stress and mobile dislocation density in creep, the stress relaxation test is carried out in the condition of each strain. Mobile dislocation density increased until it reached minimum creep rate and after that, it decreased and internal stress didn't have the change approximately until it reached minimum creep rate and after that, it decreased. The stress relaxation rate is fast and approached zero after 1.5 seconds after the beginning of the stress relaxation. And the larger the applied stress is, the larger the internal stress is. By the evaluation of mobility of dislocation, the dislocations glide viscously in STS31OJlTB but it is the dislocations glide viscously which N passes by cutting Cr atom rather than typical viscosity movement after calculating mobility of dislocation.
