  • Recently, the demand for the Floating, Production Storage, and Offloading facility(FPSO) which has some economic and technical advantages, has increased in offshore oil production areas. The basic characteristics of a 343,000 DWT class FPSO which is being built in Hyundai Heavy Industries and shall be installed in offshore Angola, is almost same as that of oil carriers. However, she do not have self-propulsion system, but has additional facilities for oil production and positioning system. Main noise source contributing to the cabin noise of the accommodation, are classified into the machine in the engine room and the deckhouse, HVAC system, and the topside equipments. In general, the noise regulation for the offshore structure is much severer than that of the common commercial ships and the maximum acceptable sound pressure level of cabins is specified in 45dB(A). This paper describes the procedure of noise analysis along with its results. Noise analysis has been carried out for the case of emergency diesel generator running condition and the case of normal production condition and the results has been compared with the measurement results of the first case. Based on the results, proper countermeasures to reduce excessive noise level has been applied considering the characteristics of sources and receiver spaces and can be satisfied the specifications at all spaces.

  • In Korea, air source heat pump system is less efficient than conventional heat source facilities, such as ground source, river water, because the air temperature in winter season is so low that COP of air source heat pump system drops below 3.0. Therefore, the study on the application of heat pump heating and cooling systems is crucial for the efficient popularization of heat pump. In this work, we present the dynamic analysis of energy consumption for the large resident building by heat resistance-capacitance method. The system simulation of water storage air source heat pump is additionally performed by changing of sizes and locations of the hospital building. The computed results show that energy cost of water storage air source heat pump is low, so it is more economical than absorption chiller & heater.

  • This paper provides quantitative data that describes the evolution of the air quality in the Whale and Sea Museum, located in the Iwate prefecture, collected after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. The museum was damaged significantly by the disaster, and restoration works continued for over six years. The air quality in the temporary storage facility and museum was monitored during the rehabilitation process. Evaluation of air quality is carried out by gas chromatography- mass spectrometry, ion chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The results showed that the characteristics of the chemical components differed depending on the measurement locations inside the building. The museum atmosphere tended to be alkaline as the airtightness increased because of the maintenance works at the entrance. It was also determined that it was necessary to study the intake/exhaust routes and to clean them according to the contamination degree. In Japan, there are recommended museum air quality standards for acetic acid, formic acid, alkali, and aldehydes. The results indicated that these standards should not be used as a reference for damaged museums. Furthermore, at the temporary storage facilities for to store the collections during the rehabilitation of the museum, solvents such as ethyl benzene, toluene, and xylene are initially abundant, although they can be reduced by ventilation, while other components such as 2E1H was confirmed in this case are likely to remain.

  • This research presents a structural design of high-level waste (HLW) container using ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHP-FRC) material. The proposed design aims to overcome the drawbacks of the existing concrete containers which are heavy, difficult to fabricate, and expensive. In this study, the dry storage container (DSC) that commonly used at Canadian Nuclear facilities is selected to present the proposed design. The design has been performed such that the new UHP-FRC alternative has a structural stiffness equivalent to the existing steel-concrete-steel container under various loading scenarios. Size optimization technique is used with the aim of maximizing stiffness, and minimizing the cost while satisfying both the design stresses and construction requirements. Then, the integrity of the new design has been evaluated against accidental drop-impact events based on realistic drop scenarios. The optimization results showed: the stiffness of the UHP-FRC container (300 mm wall thick) is being in the range of 1.35-1.75 times the stiffness of existing DSC (550 mm wall thick). The use of UHP-FRC leads to decrease the container weight by more than 60%. The UHP-FRC container showed a significant enhancement in performance in comparison to the existing DSC design under considered accidental drop impact scenarios.

  • Hybrid laminated Al/carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites are attracting considerable attention from industries such as aerospace and automobiles owing to their excellent specific strength and specific rigidity. However, when this material is used to fabricate high-pressure fuel storage containers subjected to repeated fatigue loads, fatigue life evaluation for the working load is regulated as an important criterion for operational safety and ease of maintenance. Among the existing evaluation methods for these vessels, the burst test and the hydraulic repeat test require expensive facilities. Thus, the present study aims to develop an improved fatigue life test for Al/CFRP laminated hybrid composites. The test specimen was manufactured using a curved mold considering the shape of a type III high-pressure storage container. The strain-life method was used for fatigue life evaluation, and the life was predicted based on the transition life. The results indicate that the more complex the CFRP stacking sequence, the longer is the transition life. This test method is expected to be useful for ensuring the fatigue safety and economy of hybrid laminate composites.

  • Major industrial accidents in which workers die due to fires or explosions while working at chemical substance handling workplaces continue to occur. Among the major industrial accidents that occurred between 2005 and 2021, the accident status by work situation and equipment was analyzed. Through analysis, it was confirmed that storage, reaction, and piping facilities were the main causes of the accident, and a self-checklist for each facility was developed. Verification was conducted through the supply and use groups to evaluate the suitability of the use, duties, and items of the self-checklist. The user group showed higher satisfaction than the supplier group for all three suitability of use, job, and item. In particular, since the inspection items of the self-checklist were organized around the cause of the accident derived through the analysis of actual accident cases, the satisfaction level was high in all groups. It is expected that the self-checklist developed through this study will be useful not only for large companies but also for small and medium-sized chemical industries that lack professional manpower.

  • Access control systems are used to control the access of people to assets. In practice, assets are either tangible (e.g. goods, cash, etc.) or data. In order to handle tangible assets, a person must physically access the space in which the assets are located (e.g. a room or a building). Access control systems for this case have been known since antiquity and are based either on mechanical locks or on certificates. In the middle of the 20th century, systems based on electromagnetic phenomena appeared. In the second half of the same century, the need to control access to data also arose. And since data can also be accessed via a computer network, it was necessary to control not only the access of persons to areas with data storage, but also to control the electronic communication of persons with these storage facilities. The different types of the above systems have developed separately and more or less independently. This paper provides an overview of the current status of different types of systems, showing that these systems are converging technologically based on the use of electronics, computing and computer communication. Furthermore, the terminology and architecture of these systems is expanded in the article to allow a unified description of these systems. The article also describes the most common types of access control system configurations.

  • Concrete structures must maintain their shielding abilities and structural integrity over extended operational periods. Despite the widespread use of dry storage systems for spent nuclear fuel, research on the properties of deteriorated concrete and their impact on structural performance remains limited. To address this significant research gap, static and dynamic material testing was conducted on concrete specimens carefully extracted from the outer wall of the High-flux Advanced Neutron Application ReactOr (HANARO), constructed approximately 30 years ago. Despite its age, the results reveal that the concrete maintains its structural integrity impressively well, with static compression tests indicating an average compressive strength exceeding the original design standards. Further dynamic property testing using advanced high-speed material test equipment supported these findings, showing the consistency of dynamic increase factors with those reported in previous studies. These results highlight the importance of monitoring and assessing concrete structures in nuclear facilities for long-term safety and reliability.

  • Introduction: To analyze the impact of marketing losses on efficiency in transacting banana in Kurnool district of SRZ in Andhra Pradesh and to assess the opinions of the farmers on the constraints in transacting banana. Research back ground, Materials and Methods: The study relies exclusively on primary information obtained from the banana farmers of Kurnool District. Purposive sampling procedure was followed for the selection of the study area. Top two mandals in the district and top two villages in each mandal are selected in accordance with the area under cultivation of banana. Probability proportion to size was followed regarding the selection of sample farmers and accordingly 60 marginal, 37 small and 23 other farmers were selected and thereby, the total sample size was 120. Result and Discussion: Three marketing channels were identified in the marketing of banana in Kurnool district viz., Producer ${\rightarrow}$ Local-exporter ${\rightarrow}$ Wholesaler ${\rightarrow}$ Retailer ${\rightarrow}$ Consumer (Channel-I), Producer ${\rightarrow}$ Wholesaler ${\rightarrow}$ Cart-vendor ${\rightarrow}$ Consumer (Channel-II) and Producer ${\rightarrow}$ Juice-holder ${\rightarrow}$ Consumer (Channel-III). With the inclusion of marketing losses in the price spread analysis of banana in all the three channels, the marketing costs of all the intermediaries were increased and thereby, the farmer's share in consumer's rupee and Net Marketing Margins of the agencies are on the decline. So, without inclusion of marketing losses, the farmer's share in consumer's rupee and Net Marketing Margins of all the agencies are overvalued. The higher the marketing losses, the more is the negative impact on farmer's net selling price, net marketing margins of the intermediaries and marketing efficiency. The sample farmers are facing major problems in marketing of banana like frequent price fluctuations, unorganized marketing and lack of transportation facilities on priority basis. Suggestions: It is suggested to educate the farmers regarding the optimum maturity index for harvest, use of mechanical harvesters, proper placement of fruits during storage and ripening, better packaging and cushioning technologies to absorb shocks during transportation, strengthening of storage facilities and transport facilities, encourage co-operative marketing etc., to promote marketing efficiency of banana in the study area.
