Zr-V-Mn-Ni 수소저장합금전극의 방전특성에 미치는 Ni 양의 효과에 관한 연구 (The effect of Ni content on the discharge characteristics of Zr-V-Mn-Ni hydrogen storage alloy electrode)

  • $ZrV_{0.7}Mn_{0.5}Ni_{1.2}$ alloy is attractive for anode material in Ni/MH secondary battery because of its large hydrogen storage capacity in gas-solid reaction and long cycling durability in KOH electrolyte. In this work, in order to further improve the discharge performance of this alloy electrode, the alloy was annealed by optimal condition which is for 12 hours at $1000^{\circ}C$. The alloy annealed under optimal condition had higher rate capability and discharge capacity than as-cast one. The microstructure of the as-cast and annealed alloy was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. Ni content in the matrix was increased, being this homogenized after annealing. Additionally, The measurement of the surface area by B.E.T. analysis showed that there was little difference as-cast and annealed alloy. Therefore, improvement in the rate capability of the annealed alloy is due to increase of Ni content in the matrix.

Solar Energy Powered Bicycle for Wireless Supervisory Control and Remote Power Management Applications

  • In this paper, a solar energy powered bicycle linked to a wireless sensor network (WSN) which monitors the transfer of solar energy to an electrical energy storage unit and an analysis of its effectiveness is proposed. In order to achieve this goal, a solar-powered bicycle with an attached ZigBee and a far-end wireless network supervisory system is setup. Experimental results prove that our prototype, solar energy powered bicycle, can achieve enough solar energy for charging a two lead-acid battery pack. As a result, the user, through use of a wireless network in the parking period can be kept aware of the data on the amount of immediate solar radiation, the degree of illumination, the ambient temperature, and electrical energy storage capacity information of the bicycle through an internet interface.

Ni added Si-Al Alloys with Enhanced Li+ Storage Performance for Lithium-Ion Batteries

  • Here, we report on nanocrystalline Si-Al-M (M = Fe, Cu, Ni, Zr) alloys for use as an anode for lithium-ion batteries, which were fabricated via a melt-spinning method. Based on the XRD and TEM analyses, it was found that the Si-Al-M alloys consist of nanocrystalline Si grains surrounded by an amorphous matrix phase. Among the Si-Al-M alloys with different metal composition, Ni-incorporated Si-Al-M alloy electrode retained the high discharge capacity of 2492 mAh/g and exhibited improved cyclability. The superior $Li^+$ storage performance of Si-Al-M alloy with Ni component is mainly responsible for the incorporated Ni, which induces the formation of ductile and conductive inactive matrix with crystalline Al phase, in addition to the grain size reduction of active Si phase.

  • Given the change in the energy market, large energy storage systems (ESS) is rapidly entering the market. In this rapid spread, fire accidents are becoming an issue. This study attempts to approach the fire from the system point of view to analyze the problems caused by bonding from different perspectives. Moreover, to conduct this study, the fabrication of real objects is dangerous, which needs to be verified through simulation. In this study, we approach the cause of fire that occurs in large-capacity ESS from the system perspective. We focus on determining the effects of cell balancing performed on the BMS after charging. Thus, we analyze the cell balancing behavior and the linkage risks to the various stacks. The study also explores why no fire occurs during 70% operation.

  • 신재생 에너지 발전을 통한 안정적인 전력 공급을 위해 대용량 에너지 저장 장치의 중요성이 최근 부각되고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 차세대 이차 전지인 Na-air battery (NAB)는 풍부하고 저렴한 원재료를 통해 대용량을 구현할 수 있어 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Hybrid type Na-air battery를 위한 활성탄 기반 촉매들을 제조하여 이들의 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 특히, 자원 재활용의 관점에서 버려진 오렌지 껍질을 사용하여 활성탄(Orange-C)과 이를 질소를 이용하여 도핑한 활성탄(N-doped-Carbon, Nd-C)을 제조하였으며, 널리 사용되고 있는 Vulcan카본과 성능을 비교하였다. 또한, 제조한 활성탄(Nd-C)이 지지 촉매로 활용 가능한지 확인하기 위해 수정된 폴리올법을 사용하여 Pt/C 촉매(homemade-Pt/C, HM-Pt/C)를 합성하였으며, 상용화된 Pt/C 촉매(Commercial Pt/C)와 전기화학적 성능을 비교하였다. 제조된 Orange-C와 Nd-C는 전형적인 H3 타입 BET isotherm을 보였으며, 이는 마이크로 기공과 메조기공이 존재한다는 증거이다. 또한, HM-Pt/C의 경우, 활성탄(Nd-C) 지지 촉매 위에 Pt 입자가 고르게 분포하고 있음을 TEM 분석을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 특히, HM-Pt/C 기반의 NAB의 경우, 1st galvanostatic charge-discharge 시험에서 가장 작은 Voltage gap (0.224V)과 우수한 Voltage efficiency (92.34%)를 보였다. 또한, 20사이클 동안 진행한 사이클 성능 시험에서도 가장 안정적인 성능을 보였다.

  • 신재생에너지인 태양광발전으로 발생하는 전력과 부하에서 소비되는 소비전력으로 ESS(Energy Storage System)의 한 종류인 BESS(Battery Energy Storage System)의 운영 알고리즘을 제안 및 실증하고, 그 알고리즘은 부하를 평준화 시켜 계통에 걸리는 부담을 줄이고, 비용을 최소화 하며, 경제적으로 뛰어난 전력운영을 목표로 한다.

35 kWh급 초전도 플라이휠 에너지 저장 시스템 프레임 설계 및 제작 (Design and Construction of 35 kWh Class Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System Main Frame)

  • A superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFES) is an electro-mechanical battery which transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy for storage, and vice versa. The 35 kWh class SFES is composed of a main frame, superconductor bearings, electro-magnetic dampers, a motor/generator, and a composite flywheel. The energy storing capacity of the SFES can be limited by the operational speed range of the system. The operational speed range is limited by many factors, especially the resonant frequency of the main frame and flywheel. In this study, a steel frame has been designed and constructed for a 35 kWh class SFES. All the main parts, their housings, and the flywheel are aligned and assembled on to the main frame. While in operation, the flywheel excites the main frame, as well as all the parts assembled to it, causing the system to vibrate at the rotating speed. If the main frame is excited at its resonant frequency, the system will resonate, which may lead to unstable levitation at the superconductor bearings and electro-magnetic dampers. The main frame for the 35 kWh class SFES has been designed and constructed to improve stiffness for the stable operation of the system within the operational speed range.

공동주택 발코니 PV 연계 가정용 BESS의 에너지 절감 효과 분석 (Analysis of Energy Saving Effect of the Residential BESS Connected to the Balcony-PV in Apartment Houses)

  • The government mandates gradually zero energy building and Photovoltaic power generation systems installed in buildings are emerging as the most realistic alternative to increase the independence rate of building energy. In this study, we propose a method to reduce the power consumption of households by increasing the PV capacity of balconies and applying the method used the charged electric power stored in batteries after sunset. In order to evaluate the electric power energy savings of the residential BESS, a balcony PV 1.2 kW and a battery pack 2 kWh were installed for 9 houses in 4 apartments in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The BESS is charged when the balcony PV is generated electric power, and when solar power generation is finished, it supplies power to the electric appliances connected to the load. As a result of installing the solar PV module 1.2 kW and 2 kWh class BESS for 3 households located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, the average electric power consumption saving rate was 40%. The reduction in electricity consumption in the case of zero generation surplus power by maximizing the utilization rate of BESS has been improved to about 53%. Therefore, in order to increase the self-sufficiency rate of electric energy in apartment houses, it is effective to increase the solar photovoltaic capacity of the balcony and apply the residential BESS. In the future, it is believed that the balcony PV and home BESS will play a key role in achieving mandatory zero-energy housing.

  • In order to study on the effect of fabrication methods on the changes of hydrogenation properties of FeTi alloy, FeTi samples were prepared using three different methods, i.e., arc melting, mechanical alloying and combination of the two methods. The FeTi prepared by mechanical alloying represented amorphous structure. The hydrogen storage capacity of arc melted FeTi alloy is larger than any other samples. However, FeTi electrode fabricated by mechanical alloying after arc melting showed largest discharge capacity among them.

  • The PV-Wind hybrid system was installed in the island where the solar and wind energy was compensated each other. The installed hybrid system, 10kWp-PV and 10kW-wind capacity, was monitored with the varying solar intensity and wind speed, under the minimum capacity of the storage battery.
