Remote control of Drum/Chute mechanism in a concrete mixer-truck (콘크리트 믹서 트럭에서의 드럼 및 슈트의 원격 제어)

  • A remote control system was developed in order to operate by push-buttons the conventional drum and chute components, which have been operated manually, in a concrete mixer-truck. As actuators, a hydraulic power unit was used for chute operations: two DC motors for drum operations. The devised drum controller consisted of three electric circuits : an analog proportional-integral control circuit, a drum acceleration circuit, and an emergency stop circuit. The remote control system was installed to be tested experimentally and then was evaluated to work successfully with a desirable accuracy.

  • Two-wheeled driying mobild robots are precise controlled in terms of linear contol methods without considering the nonlinear dynamical characteristics. However, in the high maneuvering situations such as fast turn and abrupt start and stop, such neglected terms become dominant and heavy influence the overall driving performance. This study describes the nonlinear optimal control method to take advantage of the exact nonlinear dynamics of the balancing robot. Simulation results indicate that the optimal control outperforms in the respect of transient performance and required wheel torques. A design example is suggested for the state matrix that provides design flexibility in the control. It is shown that a well-planned state matrix by reflecting the physics of a balancing robot greatly conrtibutes to the driving performance and stability.

  • An automatic operation of train is executed by an automatic train operation(ATO) system. The main function of ATO system is to control train speed as well as train brake system. So that train can stop at its programed position on platform and run with passenger comfort. In this paper, the gain scheduled control is designed for speed control considering the disturbances. The simulation is executed to verify the speed control performance and to compare its performance with the conventional PI and general Fuzzy control.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design a curtain control system for centralized management of large curtains, which includes curtain structure, electric curtain controller, communication system, user interface and remote control. Curtain structure is designed to avoid using limit switch. The system is based on microprocessor, determined the stop position and complete running time of electric curtain through time control, and achieved remote control of curtain opening and closing through wired and wireless communication modes. By establishment of a mathematical model to calculate the inertia compensation time of the electric curtain, the electric curtain can be stopped ahead of time, and the curtain can be completely closed by the inertia. The result of test experiment of 32 electric curtain controllers shows the communication success rate reached 100%.

  • This paper presents a study on pull cord switch system which is employed in various industry for emergency stop of the equipments. By using power line communication(PLC) technique, in this paper, a new method for operation position detection of pull cord switch is suggested without complicated wiring of separate cables which utilize only 2 lines. Also, using control function of PLC IC, a reset signal for each switch reset can be implemented in the switch status control/sensing device. Finally, this paper shows validity and practical applicability of the proposed operating position sensing system of pull cord switch by implementing the system and revealing the response time and signal through the PLC line.

Ubiquitous-Based Mobile Control and Monitoring of CNC Machines for Development of u-Machine

  • This study was an attempt to control and monitor Computerized Numerical Controller (CNC) machines anywhere and anytime for the development of a ubiquitous machine (u-machine). With a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) phone, the machine status and machining data of CNC machines can be monitored in wired and wireless environments, including the environments of IMT2000 and Wireless LAN. Moreover, CNC machines can be controlled anywhere and anytime. The concept of the anywhere-anytime controlling and monitoring of a manufacturing system was implemented in this study for the purpose of u-manufacturing and u-machines. In this concept, the communication between the CNC controller and the PDA phone was successfully performed anywhere and anytime for the real-time monitoring and control of CNC machines. In addition, the interface between the CNC controller and the developed application module was implemented by Object linking and embedding for Process Control (OPC) and shared CNC memory. For communication, the design of a server contents module within the target CNC was based on a TCP/IP. Furthermore, the client contents module within the PDA phone was designed with the aid of embedded c++ programming for mobile communication. For the interface, the monitoring data, such as the machine status, the machine running state, the name of the Numerical Control (NC) program, the alarm and the position of the stage axes, were acquired in real time from real machines with the aid of the OPC method and by sharing the CNC memory. The control data, such as the start, hold, emergency stop, reserved start and reserved stop, were also applied to the CNC domain of the real machine. CNC machines can therefore be controlled and monitored in real time, anywhere and anytime. Moreover, prompt notification from CNC machines to mobile phones, including cellular phones and PDA phones, can be automatically realized in emergencies.

  • In this paper, a surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM) drive system for industrial sewing machine was developed. Even through a lowr-esolution encoder is used for a low cost, using a full order observer enables to estimate accurate speed and position. And it also compensates a disturbance torque caused by the belt between a load and a motor. In order to control precisely stop positions of a needle, a speed trajectory is calculated from the acceleration pattern which is obtained from the position reference. The performance of the developed system is verified by experimental results.

  • Automatic driving needs many functions such as the obstacle recognition, the lane recognition, and the lane change, etc. In this paper, we realized a system which automatically drove the three-kinds of vehicle driving course, to introduce and apply the concept of 'color recognition' that expands the scope of 'lane recognition' for vehicle driving. We made the reduced each course compared with RC(Radio Control) car size, and controlled the steering considering the position and the slope of the detection line and the speed. Because the RC car does not have the brake function, we consider the speed and the position of the detection line to stop the RC car.

  • The paper is to perceive accurately speed of the train through redundant processor operation. When Slip/slide is occurred at the axle, the train is applied brake force using the Tachometer and the Doppler sensor which assistance equipment. One of the main features of railway signaling system is that rolling stock is made stop to avoid collision with the rolling stock ahead when the rolling stock exceeds its maximum operating speed in line. In addition, in the case of the rolling stock with automatic train operation, it carries out activities such as braking and propulsion using the difference between its actual speed and target speed at the point. To perform these functions, it is essential to calculate the exact speed of the rolling stock in signaling equipment on vehicles. Train speed detection unit are composed of the Tachometer and the Doppler sensor, and speed information is sent to the SDU unit. The processor of SDU unit calculates the speed of the train using compare logic the received speed information. Even if there are Slip/Slide, signaling system is available to apply exact braking, to improve stop on position and to guarantee the safety of trains.

  • A mechanical angle estimator is presented in this study to achieve the sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) used in driving a reciprocating compressor. Braking the PMSM at a specific mechanical angular position is critical for the silent stoppage of the reciprocating compressor. The performance of conventional mechanical angle observers used in reciprocating compressor drives can be seriously affected according to gains of the speed controller because such observers rely on the magnitude of current ripples. A speed ripple-based mechanical angle estimator is proposed to solve this problem. Experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed method.
