Ground control points(GCPs) can be extracted from SAR data given precise orbit for DTM generation using optic images and other SAR data. In this study, we extract GCPs from ERS SAR data and SRTM DEM. Although it is very difficult to identify GCPs in ERS SAR image, the geometry of optic image and other SAR data are able to be corrected and more precise DTM can be constructed from stereo optic images. Twenty GCPs were obtained from the ERS SAR data with precise Delft orbit information. After the correction was applied, the mean values of planimetric distance errors of the GCPs were 3.7m, 12.1 and -0.8m with standard deviations of 19.9m, 18.1, and 7.8m in geocentric X, Y, and Z coordinates, respectively. The geometries of SPOT stereo pair were corrected by 13 GCPs, and r.m.s. errors were 405m, 705m and 8.6m in northing, easting and height direction, respectively. And the geometries of RADARS AT stereo pair were corrected by 12 GCPs, and r.m.s. errors were 804m, 7.9m and 6.9m in northing, easting and height direction, respectively. DTMs, through a method of area based matching with pyramid images, were generated by SPOT stereo images and RADARS AT stereo images. Comparison between points of the obtained DTMs and points estimated from a national 1 :5,000 digital map was performed. For DTM by SPOT stereo images, the mean values of distance errors in northing, easting and height direction were respectively -7.6m, 9.6m and -3.1m with standard deviations of 9.1m, 12.0m and 9.1m. For DTM by RADARSAT stereo images, the mean values of distance errors in northing, easting and height direction were respectively -7.6m, 9.6m and -3.1m with standard deviations of 9.1m, 12.0m and 9.1m. These results met the accuracy of DTED level 2

There are several methods to record three dimensional (3D) information of objects such as lens array based integral imaging, synthetic aperture integral imaging (SAII), computer synthesized integral imaging (CSII), axially distributed image sensing (ADS), and axially distributed stereo image sensing (ADSS). ADSS method is capable of recording partially occluded 3D objects and reconstructing high-resolution slice plane images. In this paper, we present a computational method for depth extraction of partially occluded 3D objects using ADSS. In the proposed method, the high resolution elemental stereo image pairs are recorded by simply moving the stereo camera along the optical axis and the recorded elemental image pairs are used to reconstruct 3D slice images using the computational reconstruction algorithm. To extract depth information of partially occluded 3D object, we utilize the edge enhancement and simple block matching algorithm between two reconstructed slice image pair. To demonstrate the proposed method, we carry out the preliminary experiments and the results are presented.

Tracking of an object in 3D space performed in real-time is a significant task in different domains from autonomous robots to smart vehicles. In traditional methods, specific data acquisition equipments such as radars, lasers etc, are used. Contemporary computer technology development accelerates image processing, and it results in three-dimensional stereo vision to be used for localizing and object tracking in space. This paper describes a system for tracking three dimensional motion of an object using color information in real time. We create stereo images using pair of a simple web camera, raw data of an object positions are collected under realistic noisy conditions. The system has been tested using OpenCV and Matlab and the results of the experiments are presented here.
Vegetation classes, especially grass and tree classes, are often confused in classification when conventional spectral pattern recognition techniques are used to classify urban areas. This paper reports on a study to improve the classification results by using an automated process of considering height information in separating urban vegetation classes, specifically tree and grass, using three-band, high-spatial resolution, digital aerial imagery. Height information was derived photogrammetrically from stereo pair imagery using cross correlation image matching to estimate differential parallax for vegetation pixels. A threshold value of differential parallax was used to assess whether the original class was correct. The average increase in overall accuracy for three test stereo pairs was $7.8\%$, and detailed examination showed that pixels reclassified as grass improved the overall accuracy more than pixels reclassified as tree. Visual examination and statistical accuracy assessment of four test areas showed improvement in vegetation classification with the increase in accuracy ranging from $3.7\%\;to\;18.1\%$. Vegetation classification can, in fact, be improved by adding height information to the classification procedure.

Most studies using satellite images have been performed to determine three dimensional positioning by stereoscopic analysis for stereo-pair or to extract digital elevation model by stereo matching using image correlation techniques. Because the small errors on the ground control points have a great impact on the results, however, it is hard to get reliable products when we analyze satellite orbital parameters or acquire digital elevation model by using only stereo-pair. Also, if there are noises, shadows, or clouds on the one of stereo pair, it is difficult to produce DEM(digital elevation model) on the area under analysis or to have good accuracy. In these case, it can be solved by systematic analysis of the multiple stereo images. This paper suggests the improvements on the accuracy of the digital elevation model by the developments of stereoscopic analysis techniques for the triplet of SPOT satellite images on the same area.

In this paper, we report the development of two DEM (digital elevation model) generation algorithms over urban areas from an IKONOS stereo pair. One ("EpiMatch") is originally developed for SPOT images and modified for IKONOS images. It uses epipolar geometry for accurate DEM generation. The other is based on graph-cut algorithm in 3D voxel space. This algorithm is believed to work better on height discontinuities than EpiMatch. An IKONOS image pair over Taejon city area was used for tests. Using ground control points obtained from differential GPS, camera model was set up and stereo matching applied. As a result, two DEMs over urban areas were produced. Within a DEM from EpiMatch small houses appear as small "cloudy" patches and large apartment and industrial buildings are visually identifiable. Within the DEM from graph-cut we could achieve better height information on building boundaries. The results show that both algorithms can generate DEMs from IKONOS images although more research is required on handling height discontinuities (for "EpiMatch") and on faster computation (for "Graph-cut").

In this paper, implementation of object-based multiview 3D display using object segmentation and adaptive disparity estimation is proposed and its performance is analyzed by comparison to that of the conventional disparity estimation algorithms. In the proposed algorithm, firstly we can get segmented objects by region growing from input stereoscopic image pair and then, in order to effectively synthesize the intermediate view the matching window size is selected according to the extracted feature value of the input stereo image pair. Also, the matching window size for the intermediate view reconstruction (IVR) is adaptively selected in accordance with the magnitude of the extracted feature value from the input stereo image pair. In addition, some experimental results on the IVR using the proposed algorithm is also discussed and compared with that of the conventional algorithms.
Stereo matching algorithm is usually used to obtain a disparity map from a pair of images. However, the disparity map obtained by using stereo matching contains lots of noise and error regions. In this paper, we propose a virtual-view synthesis algorithm using disparity refinement in order to improve the quality of the synthesized image. First, the error region is detected by examining the consistency of the disparity maps. Then, motion information is acquired by applying optical flow to texture component of the image in order to improve the performance. Then, the occlusion region is found using optical flow on the texture component of the image in order to improve the performance of the optical flow. The refined disparity map is finally used for the synthesis of the virtual view image. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves the quality of the generated virtual-view.
In this paper, a new stereo object tracking system using the disparity motion vector is proposed. In the proposed method, the time-sequential disparity motion vector can be estimated from the disparity vectors which are extracted from the sequence of the stereo input image pair and then using these disparity motion vectors, the area where the target object is located and its location coordinate are detected from the input stereo image. Basing on this location data of the target object, the pan/tilt embedded in the stereo camera system can be controlled and as a result, 3D tracking of the target object can be possible.
