  • This paper introduces a new high efficient bi-directional, non-isolated DC/DC converter. Through variations of the topology of the conventional Cuk converter, an optimum bi-directional DC/DC converter is proposed. Voltage and current in the proposed DC/DC converter are continuous. Furthermore, the efficiency in both step-up and step-down mode is improved over that of the conventional bi-directional converter. To prove the validation for the proposed converter, simulations and experiments are executed with a 300W bi-directional converter.

  • We derive analytical expressions for the output spectral density and the noise power $P_{\beta}$ in noise loading analysis using Volterra kernels to characterize fiber nonlinearities. The bandwidth of the input noise source has little effect on $P_{\beta}$, but the power of the input noise source and the dispersion parameter value of the fiber have a significant effect on $P_{\beta}$. The Volterra method predicts ${\Delta}P_{\beta}[dB]$ = 30 dB/decade, which agrees very accurately over a wide range of fiber parameters compared with the numerical results by the split-step Fourier method. Therefore the Volterra method could be useful to predict the performance of a dense WDM system when we plan to upgrade fiber or increase signal power.

  • Many researches have been performed for human recognition and coding schemes recently. For this situation, we propose an automatic facial feature extraction algorithm. There are two main steps: the face region evaluation from original background image such as office, and the facial feature extraction from the evaluated face region. In the face evaluation, Genetic Algorithm is adopted to search face region in background easily such as office and household in the first step, and Template Matching Method is used to extract the facial feature in the second step. We can extract facial feature more fast and exact by using over the proposed Algorithm.

  • This paper presents a new circuit panitioning algorithm using wire redundancy removal. This algorithm consist of the two steps. In the first step. We propose a new IIP(Iterative Improvement Partitioning) technique that selects the method to choice cells according to improvement status using two kinds of bucket structures, the one kept by total gain, and the other by updated gain. In the second step, we select the target wire in the cut-set. We add a alternative wire in the circuit to remove the target wire. For this we use wire redundancy removal and addition method The experimental results on MCNC benchmark circuits show improvement up to $41-50\%$ in cut-size over previous algorithms

  • Even though state-of-the-art general circulation models is improved step by step, the seasonal predictability of the East Asian summer monsoon still remains poor. In contrast, the seasonal predictability of western North Pacific and Indian monsoon region using dynamic models is relatively high. This study builds canonical correlation analysis model for seasonal prediction using wind fields over western North Pacific and Indian Ocean from the Global Seasonal Forecasting System version 5 (GloSea5), and then assesses the predictability of so-called hybrid model. In addition, we suggest improvement method for forecast skill by introducing the lagged ensemble technique.

  • Chicken bone is not adequately utilized despite its high nutritional value and protein content. Although not a common raw material, chicken bone can be used in many different ways besides manufacturing of collagen products. In this study, a multi-step procedure was optimized to isolate chicken bone collagen for higher yield and quality for manufacture of collagen products. The chemical composition of chicken bone was 2.9% nitrogen corresponding to about 15.6% protein, 9.5% fat, 14.7% mineral and 57.5% moisture. The lowest amount of protein loss was aimed along with the separation of the highest amount of visible impurities, non-collagen proteins, minerals and fats. Treatments under optimum conditions removed 57.1% of fats and 87.5% of minerals with respect to their initial concentrations. Meanwhile, 18.6% of protein and 14.9% of hydroxyproline were lost, suggesting that a selective separation of non-collagen components and isolation of collagen were achieved. A significant part of impurities were selectively removed and over 80% of the original collagen was preserved during the treatments.

  • In this paper, a conventional key exchange method simply performs the key exchange setup step based on discrete algebraic subjects. But the mutual-authentication procedure of wireless PKI for reducing authentication time uses an elliptical curve for a key exchange setup step. Proposed handover method shows reduced handover processing time than conventional method since it can reduce CRL retrieval time. Also, we compared proposed authentication structure and conventional algorithm. and simulation results show that proposed authentication method outperforms conventional algorithm in all environment regardless of call arrival rate. queue service rate. queue size.

  • To make the best use of known characteristics of the alternating-direction-implicit finite-difference time-domain (ADI-FDTD) method such as unconditional stability and modeling accuracy, an efficient time domain solution with variable time-step size is proposed. Numerical experiment shows that a time-step size for a given mesh size can be increased preserving a desired numerical accuracy over frequencies of interest. The proposed method can be used to analyze electromagnetic problems with reduced computation time.

  • Kiln schedule development was based on two schedule phases, the first being to determine the maximum safe kiln temperature during the check prone initial stage of drying, with the second stage determining how to accelerate drying once the danger of checking had passed. This was achieved by using 38 mm thick boards which were pre-screened for susceptibility to internal checking, and then drying matched sample boards over a range of kiln temperatures. Research has shown that below 50% MC there is no further risk of internal checking. However, difference in drying rate due to board width and the increased occurrence of wet patches in wide boards means that it is essential to modify the basic schedule according to the maximum board width. A condition of 52/40 $^{\circ}C$ was selected for the checking-free initial kiln drying step and a 5-step kiln-schedule dried the boards from 109% to 8% MC for 72.5 hours without internal checking.

  • In this paper, a high-resolution algorithm for detecting the orientation and position of the SMD and an algorithm for compensating the position and skew angle of the PCB are proposed. The proposed algorithm for the first topic consists of two parts. Its first part is a preprocessing step. in which corner points of the SMD are detected and they are grouped. Then the coarse angle of the principal axis is obtained by line fitting. The second part is a main processing step, in which the fuzzy Hough transform over the limited range of angles is applied to the corner points to detect precisely the orientation of the SMD. The position of the SMD is determined by using its four corner points. The proposed algorithm for the second topic is the one which detects a rotation angle and translation parameters of the PCB using a template matching method. The computer simulation shows that the parametes obtained by proposed algorithms are more precise than those by the several conventional methods considered. The proposed algorithms can be applied to the fast and accurate automatic inspection systems.
