A Robust Design Study of Air Bearing Slider for HDD (HDD용 에어베어링 슬라이더의 강건설계에 관한 연구)

  • As the demand for higher areal recording densities requires a lower flying height of the slider, the variation of the flying height of the slider during drive operation becomes of great concern. The variation of the flying height is closely related with the slider design parameters such as air bearing shape, cavity depth, shallow step depth, crown, camber, pitch offset, roll offset, gram load, and so on. The objective of this work is to optimize the cavity depth and the shallow step depth, which are the control factors in air bearing design, using Robust Design method. It was found that the shallow step depth was statistically significant in affecting the variation of flying height, therefore the level of the shallow step depth should be chosen to minimize the variation of flying height.

An algorithm for the image improvement in the multi-view images coding (Multi-view 영상 코딩에서 영상 개선 알고리듬)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-view images coding algorithm to find the optimal depth and texture from the set of multi-view images. The proposed algorithm consists of two consecutive steps, i) the depth estraction step, and ii) the texture extraction step, comparedwith the traditional algorithem which finds the depth and texture concurrently. The X-Y plane of the normalized object space is divided into traingular paatches and the Z value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the traingular patches is extracted from the multi-view images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the traingular pateches with the depth extracted from the first step. Experimental results show that the SNR(Singnal-to- Noise Ratio) of images enconded by our algorithm is better than that of images encoded by the traditional algorithm by the amount about 4dB for for the test sets of multi-view images called dragon, kid, city and santa.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient coding algorithm for the zoom images to find the optimal depth and texture information. The proposed algorithm is the area-based method consisting of two consecutive steps, i) the depth extraction step and ii) the texture extraction step. The X-Y plane of the object space is divided into triangular patches and the depth value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block-based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the triangular patches is extracted from the zoom images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the triangular patches with the depth value extracted from the first step. To improve the quality of image, the interpolation is peformed on the object space instead of the interpolation on the image plane.

  • The two-step diffusion process of boron into silicon has been investigated using a new diffusion source coiled "Spin-on Source". A simple method is proposei which can estimate the junction depth after the two -step diffusion for the cases where the junction depth after the predeposition is not negligible compared with the junction depth after the two-step diffusion. The estimated junction depths are, then, compared with the experimental measurements.surements.

Dense-Depth Map Estimation with LiDAR Depth Map and Optical Images based on Self-Organizing Map (라이다 깊이 맵과 이미지를 사용한 자기 조직화 지도 기반의 고밀도 깊이 맵 생성 방법)

  • This paper proposes a method for generating dense depth map using information of color images and depth map generated based on lidar based on self-organizing map. The proposed depth map upsampling method consists of an initial depth prediction step for an area that has not been acquired from LiDAR and an initial depth filtering step. In the initial depth prediction step, stereo matching is performed on two color images to predict an initial depth value. In the depth map filtering step, in order to reduce the error of the predicted initial depth value, a self-organizing map technique is performed on the predicted depth pixel by using the measured depth pixel around the predicted depth pixel. In the process of self-organization map, a weight is determined according to a difference between a distance between a predicted depth pixel and an measured depth pixel and a color value corresponding to each pixel. In this paper, we compared the proposed method with the bilateral filter and k-nearest neighbor widely used as a depth map upsampling method for performance comparison. Compared to the bilateral filter and the k-nearest neighbor, the proposed method reduced by about 6.4% and 8.6% in terms of MAE, and about 10.8% and 14.3% in terms of RMSE.

  • Applying metric(distance) factor as weighting to spatial syntax is known to not contribute to the explanatory power for the human movement behavior as compared to the geometric(angle) factor according to the negative results of several related studies. However, Kim & Piao (2017) assumed that there is not a problem of the metric factor itself but a problem of the way of applying the metric factor as weighting, and presented a new possibility of the metric factor as weighting by proposing and verifying the methods of applying the metric weighting, which are different from the existing ones. The purpose of this study is to propose advanced methods of applying the metric weighting to space syntax, and to verify whether they contribute to the improvement of explanatory power of space syntax analysis. In this paper, we propose functions for combined depth of distance-step that combine the distance-weighted depth function with the step depth function and apply them to axial segment analysis to check the improvement of explanatory power of them.

A Study on Wear Resistance and Surface Hardening of 3%Cr-Mo-V Steel by Two-step Gas Nitriding (3%Cr-Mo-V강의 2단 가스질화처리를 통한 표면경화 및 내마모성 연구)

  • The two-step gas nitriding was adopted to increase the depth of surface hardening in 3%Cr-Mo-V steel. The two-step gas nitriding consisted of Step I; $520^{\circ}C{\times}20\;hrs$ and Step II; $550^{\circ}{\times}70\;hrs$. The layer of two-step gas nitriding showed better uniformity and deeper nitriding layer than one-step gas-nitriding layer. The maximum surface hardness showed the value of 850 Hv. The maximum depth of nitrogen permeation showed $750\;{\mu}m$ (350 Hv). X-ray diffraction analysis showed that compound layer was mainly consisted of CrN and $\varepsilon-Fe_3N$ phases. These phases were presumed contributing to surface hardening and wear resistance. However, the corrosion resistance of gas-nitrided Cr-Mo-V steel were not improved in the solution of 1 N HCl and NaOH. Therefore, it is necessary that the continuous study for improvement of corrosion resistance hereafter.

Effect of Step-Wise Excavation Depth on the Earth Pressure against an Excavation Wall in Rock Mass (암반지층 굴착벽체 발생토압에 대한 단계별 굴착깊이의 영향)

  • This paper examined the effect of step-wise excavation depth on the earth pressure against an excavation wall in rock mass. Numerical parametric studies were conducted based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM) to carry out the problems in rock mass. Controlled parameters included step-wise excavation depth, rock types, and joint conditions (joint shear strength and joint inclination angle). The magnitude and distribution characteristics of the induced earth pressure in a jointed rock mass were investigated and compared with Peck's earth pressure for soil ground. The results showed that the earth pressure against an excavation wall in rock mass were highly affected by different rock and joint conditions, and the effect of step-wise excavation depth increased as a rock type is deteriorated more. In addition, it was found that the earth pressure against an excavation wall in rock mass might be considerably different from Peck's empirical earth pressure for soil ground.

Characteristics of Flame-holding in a Scramjet Combustor with a Cavity

  • Numerical simulations were conducted in a rectangular scramjet combustor with a cavity and/or a step in order to investigate their performances for flame-holding. Flow structures and OH radical profiles in the cavity and the step were calculated. The calculated results showed that the cavity generated a larger recirculation zone than the step that had the same depth. Additionally, the combustor with a cavity could make a large low-velocity area than the combustor with a step. The cavity performance was determined by its depth and length. The cavities with too large or too short length did not work effectively, and a certain aspect ratio showed high performance for flame-holding. There was a minimal depth under which the cavity did not work as flame-holder. The fuel injections upstream the cavity and inside the cavity were also tested to investigate the effects on the cavity performance. The result showed that the fuel injection inside the cavity reduced reaction areas and residence time. Therefore, the upstream injection was preferable to the inside injection.

A Fast Volume Rendering Algorithm for Virtual Endoscopy

  • 3D virtual endoscopy has been used as an alternative non-invasive procedure for visualization of hollow organs. However, due to computational complexity, this is a time-consuming procedure. In this paper, we propose a fast volume rendering algorithm based on perspective ray casting for virtual endoscopy. As a pre-processing step, the algorithm divides a volume into hierarchical blocks and classifies them into opaque or transparent blocks. Then, in the first step, we perform ray casting only for sub-sampled pixels on the image plane, and determine their pixel values and depth information. In the next step, by reducing the sub-sampling factor by half, we repeat ray casting for newly added pixels, and their pixel values and depth information are determined. Here, the previously obtained depth information is utilized to reduce the processing time. This step is recursively performed until a full-size rendering image is acquired. Experiments conducted on a PC show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the rendering time by 70- 80% for bronchus and colon endoscopy, compared with the brute-force ray casting scheme. Using the proposed algorithm, interactive volume rendering becomes more realizable in a PC environment without any specific hardware.
