  • Life drawing is one of the most important curriculum not only in 2D animation but also in 3D animation. It was secret weapon of Disney how they made great success of Snow White and Seven Dwarfs and all the fame of Disney animation. Life Drawing which has its back ground history is major curriculum of famous animation school such as CAL Arts which Disney made and Sheridan College in Canada. But in Korea, a lot of the universities and colleges which have animation department do not really seem to understand the importance of the life drawing and it's effectiveness, thus do not emphasize it as a short cut to get close to the real work field. Now that the academical society as well as industry are very well of the fact that the animation education is directly related to the animation industry, the schools should have to teach step by step and closer to the basic fundamentals. The intentions of this study is to emphasize the importance of the Life Drawing, one of the essential fundamental course, which not only help the universities and colleges that have animation course to organize their curriculum. but also to help the students who graduate the program easily find their position in the animation industry.

  • The purpose of this study is to define the emotion that expressed in step animation and to quantify the intuitional expression of emotion that related step for using extract, measure, analysis the stimulate element about step. The survey of relation with 27 word of emotional expressions and 36 moving pictures of step sample is used for method of this test. The emotional mental structure is transferred to 2 dimensional planes as applying the results of analysis of integrated data using Quantification Method 3, which the integrated data is composed two axial - confidential axial and stabling axial. Analysis of distribution of 2 dimensional diagram shows that the second of the plane and the third of the plane have much data. However, the first of the plane and the forth of the plane have a little data. Through this kind of analysis of graph, it is difficult to express a different emotion between unstable the timidity mind and stable feel the timidity mind using only step analysis. Six difference types about physical elements affecting to emotion are selected and analyzed such as the paces of step, the rate of step, the movement angle of pelvis, the swing range of arm, angle of backbone and the lean angle of body. The result is that the rate of stop and the lean angle of body are the major element that effects to emotional stimulate of stop. This thesis argues about methods transforming subjective expression to objective and quantitative expression with the state of delicate emotion of character apply to step animation naturally. Those data to apply to multi-contents in future are the main target in this study.

  • Recently, the importance of the efficient production pipeline design has been increased for 3D animation, which becomes more delicate. In this paper, we propose 3D animation character development pipeline using 3D printing technology. We introduce 3D printing procedure into each step of the classical 3D animation and character development pipeline to incorporate the feed-back from the designer immediately. Specially, during the production step, we can find the design errors and minimize the period of production by using 3D printing of approximate shape of designed character. Using proposed method, eight DreaMegg characters were developed and their quality was very high with respect to 3D virtual graphics and real product. Using our method, high-quality 3D animation character can be developed with the minimized time and cost for development by reflecting the feed-back into production line from designers and researchers immediately.

  • With the view of an art history, 3D Animation is one of the media that was anxiously solved the issue of time and space by traditional painters, however it still could not acquire the proper position in the art field due to compromising commercialism. This is the result of devaluating for the possibility of art itself and it is only a matter of the range to apply 3D animation. In order to obtain a proper position for an art genre, previously it can be focused on how to visualize the 3D animation from our perceptions. 3D animation should not ding to the realism, it can be understand in the way of a narrative relation between the description of objects and the objects itself, further more it will be illustrated as whole units. After the aesthetical reflection, 3D animation production can be defined as an art genre and also independent from commercialism. Therefore this paper is the first step for improving 3D animation as an art and trying to discuss the way to observe 3D animation.

  • In this paper, by analyzing the nonverbal communication of personified animals and human animation characters, the differences of gesture and the amount of similarity between personified animal characters and human characters were studied. Accordingly, personified characters were classified into three categories: humanoid characters, animal-like characters and mixed-type characters which possess characteristics of both human and animals. Furthermore, we proposed a 7-step process for the personification of animal characters. Diverse information of personification was provided for animation designers in this paper. A DB system for animal character designing and automation for animation utilizing personified characters are expected to be constructed.

  • A pose is an important component in the animation with timing and spacing. Pose is the key to describe the story-telling or how the animation behavior. Key animation method is Straight Ahead and pose to pose method. Many animaters have been using these two methods, or by a mix of two ways. It is possible that computer animation make a pose using interpolation between keyframes. The many animators of computer animation are using pose to pose in their work. It is depend on good and strong pose that make audience understand a story or a situation. This makes animators to be efficient of inefficient operation. In this study, according to the effective good pose to catch proposes four ways. There are four methods of making pose that are stretch and squash, the height of the character, the center of weight, step. The law of 12 kinds of Disney Animation is a good reference for the study.

  • This study has analyzed the main works of Hayao Miyazaki, a great master of Japanese animation, and inquired into the internal and external feature of characters depicted in his works. The creation of animation character starts from non-being in the planning step and becomes an important medium which will contain the story and the subject of drama. Therefore it's possible to analogize what he intends to represent through the identity, role and external feature of characters appeared in Hayao Miyazaki's animation. As a result of analyzing these external features, the message pursued by Hayao Miyazaki shows diversified girl character unlike the existing one of Japanimation, the girl characters in his works are sometimes sexless, sometimes androgynous, but they take the role to show the intention of director and to settle matters through new femininity free from any frame. In addition, the story of drama and other components show that the Japanese-typed is being sublimated worldwide with fantasy world through oriental appearance of girl character and various color symbols.

  • The production process of the 3D-animation roughly consists of the pre-production, the main-production and the post-production. The pre-production, which is not only the outset of whole procedure among them but also the process to predict and design overall plan collectively is the most important step. A much more specific and perfect pre-production structure is needed to produce a high quality 3D-animation. Moreover, the standard 3D efficient lighting model is gathering strength as 2D and 3D artworks which are completed in this step maintain colors and looks in the main as well as post-production consistently. This study will make up for the weak points and help both to predict the color range of the overall 3D-animation product and to promote the application range of the 3D lighting system on the pre-production stage by developing the standard 3D lighting model applicable on the early step and calculating its lighting parameter properties.

  • Domestic kids TV animation industry is settled well in domestic animation industry by adding both entertainment value and educational value. Specially, the character that represents various rolls in the kids TV animation is the core visual element. This study is the analysis for character's subject matter of expression. For this, I established the tool which could classify character's subject matter of expression, and apply the tool to the character which were selected in broadcasting kids TV animations on EBS. Through this procedure, I analyzed character's subject matter of expression with the distribution chart as the final step. In addition, I hope the result of this study could intend to provide the index of the character creation in the kids TV animation and also informed the current situation about the character's subject matter of expression in the kids TV animation.

  • The technique for synthesizing reactive motion in real-time is important in many applications such as computer games and virtual reality. This paper presents a dynamic motion control technique for creating reactive motions in a physically based character animation system. The leg to move in the next step is chosen using the direction of external disturbance forces and states of human figures and then is lifted though joint PD control. We decide the target position of the foot to balance the body without leg cross. Finally, control mechanism is used to generate reactive motion. The advantage of our method is that it is possible to generate reactive animations without example motions.
