FEM Analysis on the Damage for the Cable of Cabled-suspension Bridges by Fire (화재에 의한 사장교 케이블의 유한요소 해석)

  • Recently, cabled-suspension bridges and suspension bridge have been increasingly built in korea. But such structures were often damaged by fire due to car collison. In this study, the cabled-suspension bridges constructed under the kind of the project of national road aggrandizement are modeled using Solid Works 2007. The COSMOS FloWorks 2007 software are used for Heat Transfer Analysis and Thermal Stress Analysis. The safety of wire, HDPE pipe and stainless steel pipe are investigated. The major variables for the analysis are the temperature of the heat source, the distance between the fire-proof bulk head and the heat source, wind velocity, and the height of the end of Stainless steel pipe.

A Study on Development of Hot Forged Component of Hot Tool Steel DH32 (열간공구강 DH32 소재의 열간단조품 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Hot tool steel, in general, has not been used as a material in hot forging. However such a hot tool steel is recently applied to forging materials by recent forging technology. DH32 is known as a kind of hot tool steels, which is developed for characteristics of excellent strength and toughness in high temperature. Feasibility of DH32 to hot forging material has been researched to develop the hot forging technology of a plunger used for a large-sized marine fuel pump. Hot compression experimental works were performed to investigate the hot strain characteristic of DH32 and with the experimental results FE simulations were also conducted for the design of forging processes and preform. It is found out through the hot compression experimental works that DH32 has a hot brittleness at more than $1150^{\circ}C$.

  • The hazard conditions on plant works of the steel industry have been investigated to efficiently prevent from industrial accidents. The plant works are eventually carried out by workers of smaller service companies where the safety management systems are not well established, on behalf of the main steel company. Based on the preliminary risk assessment on the plant working and open literature reviews, the safety management systems, which can be applied to the plant workplace of each process, are studied and then the step-by-step 4M check-list method is established. Accordingly, the risk assessment technique using 4M checklist for the plant workplace is proposed. In addition, a standardized flow-chart for safety management of plant work is introduced. These risk assessment technique and flow-chart can definitely contribute to the reduction of industrial accidents, considering the risk characterization and the unsafe conditions in small and medium-sized plant workplace, as effective safety management tools and safety guide line.

  • In the continuous casting process, mold level fluctuation Is the major cause of the surface and sub-surface defects. In the No.3 bloom continuous caster at Kobe Works, we ensured that the major cause of mold level fluctuation was mechanical hysteresis which existed in the driving system of mold level control. Moreover, we found out that it was possible to greatly Improve the stability of mold level by estimating this mechanical hysteresis and compensating It on-line. As a result of applying a new level control system based on this method, we got accurate control over good stability.

  • A reinforced concrete structure is complex structure that works as one body with bonding role of steel bar and concrete. The bonding action between steel bar and concrete makes possible the compound structure. The transmission of mutual strength of the steel bar with concrete in structure is determined by the bonding characteristic of steel bar and concrete surface. But the efficiency of bonding characteristic of steel bar is Questionable by the corrosion cause by the delay construction term, the wrong management, etc. So this study investigate bonding characteristic of reinforced concrete using pull-out test method which steel bar removed rust and the principal variables of this study are concrete compression strength and the degree of corrosion. The result showed that bonding strength tend to increase when removed rust of steel bar whereas it tend to decrease when not removed rust.

  • In this reaserch, the comparison between numerical results and field measurments including settlement, heaving and lateral displacement, in the interchange construction works on soft ground. Sand drain was performed for the improvement of the site and steel pipe piles driven for the pier foundation of interchange. The steel pipe piles were replaced to the equivalent steel sheet pile wall. Biot's equation was coupled with elasto-viscoplastic model for the multi-purpose program of soft foundation. Finally countemeasures for future possible lateral displacement and settlement were exmanined.
